Yawnder Mattress Comparisons · October 2026 · Research-based
Short answer: Both SONU and Nolah Evolution 15 are options to investigate when a flat, firm mattress feels too unforgiving under the shoulder. The key distinction is how they approach the problem. SONU has a recessed head-and-shoulder Comfort Channel with repositionable inserts. Nolah Evolution 15 uses a more conventional cushioned surface over a supportive hybrid coil core. We have not performed a standardized SONU-versus-Nolah instrument test.

How is SONU’s Comfort Channel different?
A traditional hybrid attempts to contour under the shoulder by compressing material. SONU instead leaves a dedicated recess where the lower arm can rest, with removable cushions controlling support. That can require active setup and experimentation. It should not be confused with a uniformly soft mattress: two SONU models use all foam while the Hybrid uses a coil core.

Which makes more sense for shoulder-sensitive side sleepers?
SONU: interesting if your repeated complaint is arm placement rather than simply overall firmness. Nolah: worth considering if you want a softer, cushioned feel in a familiar quilted hybrid. No measured pressure maps for the pair are available here, so we cannot rank clinical pressure relief.
Body weight matters, but don’t rely on generic weight cutoffs to select either: the geometry and individual shoulder positioning complicate the usual soft-versus-firm rules. Test where possible and read our shoulder and hip mattress guide for broader decisions.
Which is easier for couples?
The Nolah’s uninterrupted sleep surface is more familiar for couples who sleep in different positions, while SONU assumes both partners can live with a shared channel across the upper bed. If one partner is a stomach sleeper, the SONU channel’s location deserves extra consideration. For couples with markedly different firmness requirements, two independent Twin XL mattresses on a Split King foundation may be a better answer than compromising on either product.
Cooling and movement
Nolah’s hybrid coils can allow air to circulate through the core, and SONU’s Hybrid also has a coil option. Cover and foam marketing alone doesn’t establish which is cooler in real bedrooms. Neither the channel nor the advertised cooling fabrics guarantee an outcome for nighttime temperature, partner disturbance or edge support. The experience will depend on model configuration and sleeping behavior.
Return fees and setup costs
The SONU brand-direct trial is 100 nights for eligible orders, but you must use the bed for at least 60 nights before initiating a return and pay a transportation fee starting at $99 (higher in remote locations). Nolah’s policies can depend on purchase channel and promotional terms, so verify today’s written offer instead of assuming the return is free. When buying through Yawnder, the retailer’s own trial terms apply rather than the brand-direct trial. Custom bedding replacement costs are another SONU-specific consideration.
Want to investigate SONU’s unconventional sleep channel?
Quick choice checklist
- Choose SONU if: you primarily sleep on your side and want to try a purpose-built arm recess; you’re comfortable adjusting inserts.
- Choose Nolah if: you want conventional cushioning, an ordinary bed surface and a hybrid with several firmness choices.
- Keep shopping if: you are a devoted stomach sleeper, need a very inexpensive bed, or cannot tolerate a minimum trial period or possible return charges.
Questions shoppers ask
Does Nolah have the SONU channel?
No. The Evolution is a conventional hybrid with a continuous top. SONU’s recessed channel is its distinguishing feature.
Is the SONU Hybrid equivalent to the Nolah Evolution?
No. Both have coils, but their upper-body positioning systems are different. Coil construction alone doesn’t determine feel.
Which is more pressure-relieving?
There isn’t a reliable measured winner here. Your shoulder and hip comfort depends on individual anatomy, the model firmness and how you lie on the surface.
