Brooklyn Bedding has really expanded their offering of mattresses this past year and their latest mattress, the Propel is a strong showing. It basically takes all the next generation mattress technology and literally rolls it into a box to ship directly to your door. A few highlights are cooler sleeping and more responsive foam along with a cover that promotes recovery and more restorative sleep. A queen size currently retails for $799 after automatically applying the 20% discount.

Overview of the Propel Mattress

Here’s a quick video overview of the Propel mattress from unboxing to giving a try for the first time. You would be hard-pressed to know there are springs in this mattress if you didn’t know they were already in there.

 Construction of the Propel Mattress

Propel mattress construction

Below are the construction details from the Propel website.

1. Upcycle Performance Cover

An elite, European performance fabric utilizes Upcycle technology with encapsulated minerals to transform your body’s heat into restorative energy.

2. 1.5″ CopperFlex with Titan Cool

A layer of patented copperflex is paired with TitanCool, a phase change molecule surface infusion with high conductivity properties that draws excess heat away from the body, maintaining optimal comfort for each individual sleeper. An added infusion of copper helps promote an antibacterial sleep environment.

3. 2″ Energex

Providing a second layer of comfort, a patented hyper-elastic foam, called Energex, features immediate response technology that adjusts to your body each time you move.

4. 1″ Visco-Elastic Memory Foam

A transition layer with the contouring properties of memory foam provides deep compression support with added cooling.

5. 6″ Ascenion Encased Coils

An engineered layer consisting of up to 952 individually encased coils, allows for better reactivity and motion isolation, minimizing sleep disturbance.

6. 1″ Base Support Foam

A high-density foam base adds durability to the mattress while reinforcing individually encased coils as they compress.

My Propel Mattress Findings

The propel feels more like a foam mattress than a spring mattress even though it is a hybrid with a base layer of pocket coils. I think this is because there is 3 inches of foam above the coil system along with a base layer of foam to absorb motion at both ends.

Here you can see how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sinks into the mattress. It provides good contouring and I would rate this a true medium feel.

The mattress has decent edge support so you can maximize use of the entire mattress.

My Propel Mattress Recommendation

I recommend the propel mattress to people who are looking for optimal recovery at night. The Upcycle fabric is designed to turn body heat into FAR Infrared energy to promote recovery and circulation. The foams underneath provide great pressure relief and breathability which will reduce your need to change positions at night. Finally, the spring layer will make it just a bit easier to change positions and provides added contouring that foam alone just can’t provide.
