Pillowtex Corporation was a United States textile manufacturing company from 1954 to 2003. Beginning as a pillow manufacturer, the company diversified and manufactured bedsheets under various brand names, including Royal Velvet, Cannon, and Charisma. Pillowtex was one of the largest textile companies in the United States, with over 16 manufacturing and distribution facilities and 7,650 employees.

Pillowtex was founded in Dallas, Texas, in 1954 by John H. Silverthorne. The company quickly grew, and by the 1960s, it was a major manufacturer of pillows and blankets. In the 1970s, Pillowtex began acquiring other textile companies, including Fieldcrest Cannon, which made it one of the largest bedding manufacturers in the world.

Pillowtex was a major player in the textile industry for many years, but it began to struggle in the early 2000s. The company faced increasing competition from foreign manufacturers, and it also made some bad business decisions. In 2003, Pillowtex filed for bankruptcy and liquidated its assets.

The Pillowtex brand was acquired by Pacific Pillows in 2009, and the company continues to produce bedding products under the Pillowtex name. However, Pillowtex is no longer a major player in the textile industry.

Is Pillowtex still in business?

Pillowtex Corporation is no longer in business. The company filed for bankruptcy and liquidated its assets in 2003. However, the Pillowtex brand was acquired by Pacific Pillows in 2009, and the company continues to produce bedding products under the Pillowtex name.

Findings

There are many things to like about this pillow. First off, I prefer a shredded foam pillow over a standard foam pillow. Shredded foam contours better and you can scrunch it up to hug the contour of your neck. Shredded foam also breathes better, especially when it is loosely packed.

In my opinion this pillow is overstuffed. I took out about a quarter of the fill to get it to a height that worked for me. I will probably end up taking out even more. I think the fill is simply remainder foam that is left over when making foam mattresses. Rather than going to waste, the foam can be used in pillows, bean bag chairs, etc.

Here’s a closeup of the fill that’s inside the pillow:

This pillow has a double zipper system so that is more difficult for children to access the foam inside. The pillow also comes with a bamboo cover which makes it soft and breathable.

To give you an idea of how the foam reacts, I took some out and squished it. Check out the video below:

Conclusion

With a 30 day money back guarantee and the backing of Amazon, this pillow is a tremendous value. If you tried the My Pillow but would like something with more customization, I would give this one a try. The foam is denser than the My Pillow so it won’t be as light or recover as quickly but you get good pressure relief. The pillow itself is not washable either but you can machine wash the outer bamboo cover.

  1. What memory foam mattress topper do you recommend for a firm foam mattress? I now have a Tuft and Needle mattress, and I am a side sleeper.

  2. The price was great and I had very little noticeable off gassing which last only the first hour or so.
The cover is also very nice; however, everything going on inside the pillow is a no go for me.

On my old bed this pillow was uncomfortable as I stepped down the amount of fill. I have a couple gallon ziploc bags packed tight with my extra foam. The pillow requires constant fluffing and readjustment to be comfortable at all. It does not last long at all in a comfortable setup. Now that I have removed a significant amount of foam, it all runs away from my head and bunches up around my head. When I had more foam in, it was just too much thickness for my needs.

Unfortunately this just isn’t the pillow for me.
