Poway is a mattress-buying gap in San Diego County. There’s no true premium showroom in town — the nearest full selections are Rancho Bernardo (a couple of chains), UTC (Sleep Number, Tempur-Pedic gallery), or the 30-minute drive to Encinitas. Here’s how to think about it.
What’s actually in Poway
Poway itself has a Mattress Firm on Poway Road and a small selection at Costco and Sam’s Club in nearby locations. That’s basically it. For anything premium, direct-to-consumer, or independently-owned, you’re driving.

- Rancho Bernardo (10 min): Another Mattress Firm, Ashley HomeStore. Same limitations as Poway.
- UTC / La Jolla (20 min): Sleep Number, Tempur-Pedic Flagship, Restoration Hardware. Wider premium selection but still commissioned retail.
- Encinitas (30 min): Yawnder’s showroom — Saatva, Malouf, premium pillowtop and hybrid lineup in one non-commissioned setting.
Delivery to Poway
Poway is 30 minutes from Encinitas via the 56 or the 78/15 combo. Yawnder does free white-glove delivery + old-bed haul-away to Poway. Chain stores typically charge $99–$150; direct-to-consumer brands (Saatva, Awara, Nectar) charge $150–$300 for in-home setup or drop curbside for free.
Poway climate matters more than you think
Poway is inland, dry, and gets 90°+ regularly in summer with cool nights. Two implications:
- Solid memory foam is a bad choice. No airflow, traps heat, wakes you up sweating in July.

If you have kids or dogs on the bed

Buying online without trying it first
