Leesa Natural Crib Mattress Review (2026): Organic Latex, Pros & Cons
The Leesa Natural Crib Mattress is a premium dual-sided crib mattress designed to grow from the newborn stage into the toddler years. It combines a firm infant surface, a gentler waterproof toddler surface, GOLS-certified organic latex and a strong set of third-party certifications.
Yawnder’s Take
Best for: Parents who want a premium latex crib mattress that transitions into a toddler bed.
Standout features: Dual-sided construction, organic latex, waterproof toddler side, GREENGUARD Gold certification and fiberglass-free construction.
Potential drawbacks: Premium price, non-removable cover and no built-in waterproof barrier on the infant side.
Bottom line: This is a thoughtfully constructed premium crib mattress for families who value natural latex and independently verified material and emissions standards.
Editor’s note: This review evaluates the Natural Crib Mattress from its published construction, certifications, specifications and policies. We do not represent a product as personally tested unless a Yawnder reviewer has physically tested it.

Leesa Natural Crib Mattress Construction
The Natural Crib Mattress measures 28 x 52 x 5 inches, weighs about 18 pounds and is designed for standard full-size cribs and compatible toddler beds. The five-layer design uses an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified cotton cover, 1.5 inches of firm GOLS-certified organic latex on the infant side, a 2-inch transition support foam layer, 1.5 inches of gentle-firm GOLS-certified organic latex on the toddler side, and a cotton surface over a TPU-laminated waterproof barrier on the toddler side.
One distinction matters: this is not an all-latex mattress. Organic latex is used on both sleep surfaces, but a polyurethane transition foam layer sits in the center.
Infant Side: Firm and Flat
For infants, firmness is a safety consideration rather than simply a comfort preference. Leesa designed the infant side around current guidance calling for a firm, flat infant sleep surface. It uses 1.5 inches of firm GOLS-certified organic latex and is intended for use from birth to around the first birthday.
Parents should always follow current safe-sleep recommendations and the instructions supplied with their crib. If there is any uncertainty about when to transition sides, ask the child’s pediatrician.
Toddler Side: Gentler and Waterproof
Flip the mattress over for the toddler stage and the feel changes to gentle-firm latex. More importantly for real-world use, this side adds a TPU-laminated waterproof barrier across the sleeping surface and edges. That is especially useful during potty training.
The infant side does not have the same integrated waterproof barrier. Leesa recommends a properly fitted waterproof crib mattress protector if additional protection is wanted during infancy. At this price, we would have preferred built-in waterproofing on both sides.
Materials and Certifications
GOLS-Certified Organic Latex
Both sleep surfaces use GOLS-certified organic latex. Latex is responsive and resilient rather than slow-sinking like memory foam, and Leesa ventilates the latex to encourage airflow.
GREENGUARD Gold
The finished mattress is GREENGUARD Gold certified for low chemical emissions. For a mattress used in a child’s bedroom, we consider independent emissions testing much more meaningful than vague marketing terms such as “clean” or “eco-friendly.”
OEKO-TEX and CertiPUR-US
The cotton cover is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, while the foam is CertiPUR-US certified for applicable content, emissions and durability standards.
Fiberglass-Free Fire Barrier
Leesa states that the Natural Crib Mattress contains no fiberglass. The company says it uses a rayon-based fire barrier and that the mattress has passed applicable CPSC crib-mattress safety and flammability testing under 16 CFR 1241 and ASTM F2933.
Temperature Regulation
The cotton cover, ventilated latex and responsive construction should provide reasonable airflow on paper. We would not call any crib mattress “cooling” without comparative testing, but the material choices are sensible for breathability.
Cleaning and Care
The cover is not removable or machine washable. Leesa recommends spot cleaning with a damp cloth and mild soap and says not to soak the mattress. The waterproof toddler side makes accidents easier to manage, but a fitted protector is still worth considering—particularly on the infant side.
What We Like
There is a lot to like here: genuinely different infant and toddler surfaces, GOLS-certified organic latex on both sides, GREENGUARD Gold certification, an OEKO-TEX cotton cover, CertiPUR-US foam, fiberglass-free construction, a waterproof toddler surface and standard crib dimensions.
What We Don’t Like
The biggest drawback is price. This is firmly a premium crib mattress. The infant side is not waterproof, the cover cannot be removed for machine washing, and shoppers should understand that “organic latex” does not mean every component in the finished mattress is organic.
Price, Trial and Warranty
Leesa lists the Natural Crib Mattress with a $459 regular price, although promotional pricing changes. At the time of our September 2026 update, Leesa was advertising it for $389. Leesa also advertises a 120-night trial, free shipping and a limited lifetime warranty. Always verify the current price and terms at checkout because promotions and policies can change.

Leesa vs. Other Popular Crib Mattresses
The Leesa sits in a competitive premium category. Here is how its published specifications compare with several popular alternatives. Prices and promotions can change, so treat pricing as a snapshot rather than a permanent ranking.
Leesa Natural vs. Naturepedic Breathable Organic 2-Stage
Leesa: 28 x 52 x 5 inches, 18 pounds, GOLS-certified organic latex on both sleep surfaces, GREENGUARD Gold, OEKO-TEX cotton cover, CertiPUR-US transition foam, dual-sided infant/toddler design, and waterproofing on the toddler side. Leesa’s regular price is $459, with promotional pricing commonly lower.
Naturepedic Breathable Organic 2-Stage: 27.25 x 51.625 x 6 inches and 14 pounds in the lightweight version. It uses GOTS-certified organic cotton, has a removable machine-washable breathable cover and a waterproof surface, and carries certifications including GOTS, MADE SAFE and GREENGUARD Gold. Naturepedic lists it around $369 at the time of this update.
Key difference: Leesa is the more latex-focused construction, while Naturepedic emphasizes organic cotton, full waterproofing and a removable washable cover. Parents specifically seeking organic latex may prefer Leesa’s material approach; parents prioritizing easy cleanup may find Naturepedic’s washable cover particularly practical.
Leesa Natural vs. Newton Waterproof Crib Mattress
Newton Waterproof: 52 x 28 x 5.5 inches and about 14 pounds. Instead of latex or conventional foam, Newton uses its washable Wovenaire polymer core with a breathable cover and waterproof lining on the toddler side. It is a two-stage design and GREENGUARD Gold certified.
Key difference: These mattresses take very different approaches. Leesa centers natural latex and a cotton cover; Newton centers maximum washability and airflow through its polymer core. If natural latex is the priority, Leesa has the clearer advantage in materials. If being able to wash the cover and rinse the core is the priority, Newton offers functionality Leesa does not.
Leesa Natural vs. Avocado Organic Crib Mattress
Avocado Organic: 28 x 52 x 5.5 inches and approximately 28 pounds. Avocado uses an organic latex and coconut-fiber core and lists six finished-product certifications, including GOTS, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I, EWG Verified, MADE SAFE and GREENGUARD Gold.
Key difference: Both appeal to shoppers interested in latex and stronger material certifications. Avocado’s construction is substantially heavier and uses coconut fiber, while Leesa weighs about 18 pounds and combines latex with a central transition foam layer. That 10-pound difference can matter when lifting a crib mattress to change sheets.
Which Construction Makes the Most Sense?
There is no single material that every family needs. Leesa stands out for combining GOLS organic latex with a relatively manageable 18-pound weight and a true infant/toddler flip design. Naturepedic puts more emphasis on organic cotton, waterproofing and washable components. Newton is the outlier with a washable polymer core. Avocado offers another latex-based route with an especially broad certification package but at a considerably higher weight.
Who Should Buy It?
Consider the Leesa if you prefer latex to an all-polyfoam design, value independently certified low-emission materials, want one mattress for both crib and toddler-bed stages, and are comfortable paying more for premium materials. Budget-focused shoppers, families wanting waterproofing on both sides, or anyone who considers a removable machine-washable cover essential may prefer another option.
Final Thoughts
The Leesa Natural Crib Mattress checks a lot of boxes without relying solely on vague “natural” marketing. Its GOLS-certified latex, GREENGUARD Gold certification and dual-sided design are meaningful differentiators. Our biggest wish is simple: waterproof the infant side too and make the outer cover removable. For parents willing to pay a premium for natural latex and extensive certifications, however, this is a compelling crib-to-toddler option.
