The Dream Bed is the latest online mattress offering from Mattress Firm. not only does this bed provide amazing pressure relief but because its offered through Mattress Firm, they can have it delivered to your door in a box in 48 hours! I was given a “Cool Dream Bed” for review and I found it to be a cool mattress indeed.

Overview

With all the new online mattress startups coming on the scene over the past year, it’s only fitting that some of the veteran players in the industry come out with their own offering. Mattress Firm which is the most dominant mattress retailer in the United States has taken advantage of their vast network of stores to introduce the Dream Bed. What makes this particularly unique is that the top layer of the Cool Dream Bed has a layer of cooling gel, something I have not tested in a mattress before.

Unboxing

Unboxing the Dream Bed was fun. It even comes with a selfie stick where you can just to post a selfie with the included thought bubble to the hashtag #dreamitforward. A great way to spread the word about how a mattress is donated for every mattress purchased.

Construction

The specifications of the Dream Bed Cool are as follows:

The top cover is a woven fabric for breathability

Under that is a thin .125″ layer of cooling gel.

Followed by 3″ of memory foam

And finally, 7.5″ of support foam.

Underneath the cover of the Dream Bed is a studded bottom that helps to keep the mattress in place on the bed. It’s a very nice feature if you put it on an adjustable base which you can do.

Findings

This mattress is on the softer side compared to others I have tested. I really like how it cradles your body AND keeps you cool. It’s hard to do with memory foam but the gel layer really does the job.

Here’s a video that illustrates heat retention on the Dream Bed Cool:

You’ll notice that this mattress has a fair amount of sink. So the mattress will give you some hug.

The woven cover is nice in that it doesn’t trap heat which allows the cooling layer to do its work. Since this is an all foam mattress it won’t have any bounce to it.

Conclusion

The Cool Dream Bed is a wonderful mattress. People looking for a mattress that has great pressure relief will find it here. You will sink into this mattress a little bit but you also won’t overheat due to the top gel layer. There are a lot of foam mattresses in the market that have cooling gel in the top layer of foam but by having a dedicated all gel layer at the top, it  dramatically improves cooling.

This mattress should have very wide appeal and is a great choice for people looking for a quality foam mattress that can be delivered conveniently and quickly. According the Mattress Firm site, they can usually deliver in under 48 hours. It has a very generous trial period of 180 days with hassle free returns or exchanges so you have plenty of time to see if it’s right for you.

Currently a Queen size Dream Bed retails on their site for $829 on their website but it is currently listed on Amazon for $499. Shop the Dream Bed on Amazon

  1. I do not like the dream bed and have been trying for three weeks to get the company to honor their 180 day guarantee. Customer care doesn’t pick up (3+ hrs on hold), and emails not returned. At this point, I don’t expect a refund.

  2. I am not thrilled so far. Lots of confusion about the shipping, after several emails and calls it took 3 weeks to get it. My bed didn’t unfurl correctly. After 4 days untouched it is too wide and shallow. I doesn’t fit on my bed frame and looks like an old uneven futon, not the sleek mattress in the photos or in the Sleeptrain showroom. I called and was on hold for over a half hour with Dreambed, finally hung up and called back was given another number (888-805-0120) that was answered after 10 min. They asked me to take photos and send them to them, but didn’t say what they would do for me. I guess they didn’t believe me…will let you know how this gets resolved.

  3. I’ve had my dream mattress for a month. It’s very soft and comfortable but it has a mildew odor that doesn’t go away. Not good!!!!
