The Crystal Cove mattress is a flippable hybrid mattress from Brentwood Home. It is 13 inches thick and has a medium-firm firmness level. The mattress is made with a combination of memory foam, latex, and pocketed coils.
The top side of the mattress has a comfort layer made with charcoal-infused memory foam and latex. The memory foam is designed to conform to your body and relieve pressure points, while the latex is designed to provide bounce and support.
The bottom side of the mattress has a comfort layer made with polyfoam and charcoal-infused memory foam. The polyfoam is designed to provide support, while the memory foam is designed to relieve pressure points.
The support core of the mattress is made with pocketed coils. The pocketed coils are designed to provide contouring support and isolate motion.
The Crystal Cove mattress is a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a medium-firm mattress that provides pressure relief and support. It is also a good choice for sleepers who are looking for a flippable mattress so that they can change the firmness level of the mattress depending on their needs.
Here are some of the benefits of the Crystal Cove mattress:
- Pressure relief: The memory foam in the Crystal Cove mattress is designed to conform to your body and relieve pressure points. This can help to reduce pain and discomfort, and improve your overall sleep quality.

If California were a mattress, it would be the Crystal Cove mattress from Brentwood Home. It exudes a laid-back aesthetic that is welcoming and stylish. This mattress gets its looks from the Crystal Cove Yoga collection which includes the yoga bolster pillow, pranayama pillow, and meditation pillow. This is the first mattress in their line that is not tufted. People looking for a smooth sleeping surface will enjoy this feel.
Ordering The Crystal Cove Mattress
This mattress is only available through Brentwood Home’s website. Since all of their mattresses are made on demand, it will take about a week and a half to arrive at your door. It will come in a box like the one below. I don’t really rave about boxes and of course they don’t affect the quality of the mattress but the quality of the box is an indicator that they pay attention to the details which will matter in a mattress.
This is what it looks like out of the box. This mattress is super heavy and also heavily compressed so extra wrapping needs to be done to keep it from coming loose in the box. A queen size weighs 128 lbs.
This picture was taken soon after opening the mattress. It springs to life quickly because it literally has springs. This is a mattress that you can sleep on a few hours after opening because there really isn’t that much foam in it.
Overview of the Crystal Cove Mattress
In the video below I show you the inside of the mattress. I am sitting on the plush side which has the charcoal-infused foam at the top. The firm side has a layer of Dunlop latex at the top. I don’t think there would ever be a reason to access the inside or take off the cover though.
This mattress comes with a 120-night trial where you can try it out in the comfort of your home and if you don’t like it, just contact them and they will facilitate an easy return. You do not have to pack it up and ship it back. Brentwood also offers a 25-year warranty. This company has been around much longer than most online brands and they are a mattress manufacturer that makes their own mattresses so you can have peace of mind that this company should be around for another 25 years to honor their warranty.

My Crystal Cove Findings
The videos below illustrate bounce and motion transfer on each side of the mattress. Both sides will have bounce due to the coil system in the middle. Here’s the plush side first. The plus side has charcoal infused foam. The charcoal can help with cooling and with flushing toxins out of the body. Whether or not that will happen underneat the cover of the mattress is uncertain but charcoal also can keep the mattress fresh which is a bonus over traditional foam.
Here’s’ the firm side. It has slightly more bounce because it has a layer of latex at the top. What you will notice is that you sort of float more on the firm side. Latex is instantly responsive to no waiting for it to adapt to your body and it is also easier to move around on than foam.
The video below shows you how each component of the mattress works.
My Crystal Cove Recommendation
There are so many choices out there when it comes to buying a mattress. It’s just overwhelming. So, here are 5 reasons you should be considering a Crystal Cove mattress.
- You aren’t sure what firmness will work for you or your firmness preferences fluctuate.
- You are looking for a luxury guest bed where you can offer your guests choice of firmness.
- You prefer a smooth sleeping surface.
- You aren’t sure if foam or latex is right for you.
- You like a natural mattress but also appreciate the benefits of foam.
In terms of overall feel. I really enjoy the plush side with the foam. It has a unique feel that will appeal to side sleepers. Stomach and back sleepers will probably prefer the firm side with latex. The stretch knit cover is stretchy enough to give you the full benefits of the layers underneath and the hand stitched handles on each side make flipping the mattress much easier.
This mattress will cost more than other brands but in this case you get what you pay for and more. You get two quality mattresses in one and all the craftsmanship and high-end design that comes from Brentwood Home. In my opinion, they are becoming a boutique luxury online mattress brand that has yet to meet their match.

Crystal Cove vs. Layla Hybrid
The Crystal Cove mattress and the Layla Hybrid mattress are both popular hybrid mattresses that offer a variety of benefits. However, there are some key differences between the two mattresses that may make one a better choice for you than the other.
Here is a comparison of the two mattresses:
Feature | Crystal Cove | Layla Hybrid |
---|---|---|
Firmness | Medium-firm | Medium-firm to firm |
Construction | Memory foam, latex, and pocketed coils | Memory foam and pocketed coils |
Price | $$$ | $$ |
Trial and warranty | 120-night trial and 10-year warranty | 120-night trial and lifetime warranty |
Here is why the Crystal Cove mattress may be a better choice for you than the Layla Hybrid mattress:
- Flippable design: The Crystal Cove mattress is flippable, so you can change the firmness level of the mattress depending on your needs. The Layla Hybrid mattress is not flippable, so you are stuck with the same firmness level.
- Sustainable materials: The Crystal Cove mattress is made with sustainable materials, such as recycled latex and organic cotton. The Layla Hybrid mattress is not made with sustainable materials.
- Price: The Crystal Cove mattress is more expensive than the Layla Hybrid mattress. However, it is important to note that the Crystal Cove mattress is made with higher quality materials and has a more sustainable design.
Ultimately, the best way to decide which mattress is right for you is to try out both mattresses and see which one you prefer. Both mattresses offer a free trial period, so you can return the mattress if you are not satisfied with it.
Here is some additional information that may help you to make a decision:
- If you are looking for a mattress that you can flip to change the firmness level, the Crystal Cove mattress is a better choice.
- If you are looking for a mattress that is made with sustainable materials, the Crystal Cove mattress is a better choice.
- If you are on a tight budget, the Layla Hybrid mattress is a better choice.
- If you are looking for a mattress with a lifetime warranty, the Layla Hybrid mattress is a better choice.

Thank you for your review.
I recently got the Brentwood Home Cedar mattress. It is a bit too firm for me.
How would you compare the latex side of the crystal cove to the cedar as far as firmness?
It’s definitely softer than the Cedar. I think the tufting on the Cedar is what makes it firmer.
How would you compare the plush side of the Crystal Cove vs the Ojai vs the Oceano using a rating scale of 10 being the softest? I would really appreciate your opinion and I will be using your code to order when I make my final decision. Thanks
They are very different mattresses. The Crystal Cove plush side will be softer than the Ojai. I would say the Crystal Cove Plush is about a 7.5 with 10 being the softest whereas the Ojai is about a 5.5
The Oceano is tufted so you don’t sink into quite as much as the plush side of the Cyrstal Cove. I think if you want a mattress softer than the Oceano the soft side of the Crystal Cove would be the way to go.
how do you compare the dreamcloud with the crystal cove? I’ve narrowed it down to those two. The dreamcloud seems more plush than the charcoal side of the crystal cove. but being able to flip the mattress and even remove the cover to wash it makes the crystal cove more appealing.
You get more “hug” with the DreamCloud but the Crystal Cove has two firmness levels. I would say if you want the ability to have different firmness levels and you don’t want to sink in too much, the Crystal Cove is the way to go
I am currently going through the process of returning my Crystal Cove mattress and found out from their customer service some helpful information about the firmness ratings of this mattress and several of the other Brentwood mattresses. The firm latex side is a 3 (I found it to be too firm even as a strict stomach sleeper). The plush side has a rating of 7 (had a bit too much sink for me and I had low back pain). The Cedar has a 5 rating (interesting because Yawnder mentions that he finds this one firmer than the Crystal Cove firm side). The Ojai has a 6 rating. I’m now waiting for the Ojai to arrive and praying it’s a good fit! ????
Im a side sleeper, 140 lbs, and I want as natural as possible. Im trying to decide between my green mattress natural escape, happsey, or the crystal cove. The crystal cove has the foam layer, but other certifications look ok. The healthy aspect is very important to me, but I keep learning toward the crystal cove. Any words of wisdom?
The Crystal Cove would be your best option as a side sleeper. The soft side of the Crystal Cove will provide the best contouring of the three.
Thank you your reviews are helpful and they seem honest. Just ordered the Crystal Cove. We currently have a traditional Simmons and this is our first bed in a box mattress. We are both side sleepers and are not a big fan of all memory foam mattresses. We are hoping we made a good choice. I’ll keep you posted.
How are you liking the Crystal Cove? I too have a Simmons and looking am looking to buy a new mattress.
Hi your site is very well done. How would the Crystal Cove compare to the Brooklyn Bedding Signature?
I was in the same predicament. I knew I was going to order from Brentwood Homes, but I had the hardest time deciding. The cost difference wasn’t that great between the 2 mattresses; however, ordered the Crystal Cove tonight. I figured I have 2 options with one mattress so one should be right for me. I’m a side and back sleeper. If for some reason it doesn’t work out I will buy the Oceano. Let us know what you decided to buy.
Teresa, How do you like the Crystal Cove? Is it “too” firm or “too” soft? Any insight would be helpful as I am interested in purchasing it. Thanks!
I am really liking reviews on both this mattress and the winkbed luxury firm. Any insights when comparing those two?
Thanks!
