Dog Beds vs. Memory Foam Mattress, What’s the Difference?

Similarities:

  • Both dog beds and memory foam mattresses are designed to provide comfort and support.
  • Both products can be made with memory foam, which is a type of foam that conforms to the body and relieves pressure points.
  • Both dog beds and memory foam mattresses can be found in a variety of sizes and firmness levels.

Differences:

  • Dog beds are typically smaller and thinner than memory foam mattresses.
  • Dog beds are also often made with more durable materials, such as canvas or vinyl, to withstand wear and tear.
  • Memory foam mattresses are typically designed for humans, while dog beds are specifically designed for dogs.

Which is better for your dog?

Whether a dog bed or a memory foam mattress is better for your dog depends on a number of factors, including your dog’s size, age, and health.

If your dog is young and healthy, a regular dog bed may be sufficient. However, if your dog is older or has health problems, such as arthritis or hip dysplasia, a memory foam bed may be a better option. Memory foam beds can provide additional support and pressure relief, which can help to improve your dog’s comfort and mobility.

If you do decide to get a memory foam bed for your dog, be sure to choose one that is specifically designed for dogs. Dog beds are made with more durable materials and have covers that are easier to clean.

Here are some additional things to consider when choosing a dog bed or memory foam mattress for your dog:

  • Size: Make sure to choose a bed that is the right size for your dog. Your dog should be able to comfortably stretch out on the bed without feeling cramped.
  • Firmness: The best firmness level for your dog will depend on their age, health, and sleep position. If you are unsure which firmness level to choose, it is best to ask your veterinarian for advice.
  • Material: Dog beds are typically made from a variety of materials, such as canvas, vinyl, or memory foam. Choose a bed that is made from a durable material that is easy to clean.
  • Price: Dog beds and memory foam mattresses can range in price from a few dollars to several hundred dollars. Choose a bed that fits your budget and your dog’s needs.

Ultimately, the best way to choose a dog bed or memory foam mattress for your dog is to try out a few different beds and see which one your dog prefers.

The Importance of Made in USA Dog Beds

There are several reasons why you may want to consider buying a made in USA dog bed over one made overseas.

  • Quality: Made in USA dog beds are often made with higher quality materials and construction than overseas beds. This means that they are more likely to be durable and last longer.
  • Safety: US safety standards are generally more stringent than overseas safety standards. This means that made in USA dog beds are less likely to contain harmful chemicals or toxins.
  • Supporting the US economy: When you buy a made in USA dog bed, you are supporting American jobs and businesses. This helps to boost the US economy and create jobs for your fellow Americans.

Here are some additional things to consider when choosing between a made in USA dog bed and one made overseas:

  • Price: Made in USA dog beds are often more expensive than overseas beds. This is because the cost of labor and materials is higher in the United States.
  • Availability: It may be more difficult to find made in USA dog beds than overseas beds. This is because they are not as widely produced.

Ultimately, the decision of whether to buy a made in USA dog bed or one made overseas is up to you. There are pros and cons to both options. Weigh the factors that are most important to you and make the decision that is right for you and your dog.

If you do decide to buy a made in USA dog bed, here are a few tips:

  • Look for a bed that is made with high-quality materials and construction.
  • Make sure the bed is durable enough to withstand your dog’s wear and tear.
  • Choose a bed that is the right size for your dog.
  • Select a bed with a firmness level that is comfortable for your dog.
  • Consider buying a bed from a company that has a good reputation for quality and customer service.

Brentwood home gets rave reviews on Amazon for their memory foam mattresses but they also make many other products including pet beds. The Brentwood Home Orthopedic Pet bed uses some of the same foam found in their mattresses which is good news for your pet.

Ordering your Brentwood Home Dog Bed

Similar to the Brentwood home mattresses, you can order the pet beds from Amazon. However, if order direct from their website and use the exclusive code SLEEPSHERPA you get an instant 15% off.  Shipping is fast and you can expect the bed within a week from ordering. My Brentwood Home Dog Bed Findings

dotte pet bed

Our dog, Dottie is a Australian Shepherd / Border Collie mix. She’s getting old (14 yrs old in this pic) so we were concerned that her old pet bed that didn’t even measure an inch thick just wasn’t giving her the needed support.

Dottie took to the bed immediately and seems to be sleeping just fine on it. Because her breed sheds a lot, it’s nice that the cover can be washed.

The bottom of the dog bed has a non stick surface so it wont go traveling on smooth surfaces.

These dogs beds come in 3 sizes (small, medium and large) I ordered the large size but could have easily gone with a medium for a border collie.

The fabric goes well with the rest of the furniture in our living room and doesn’t stand out. Given we have a small house this is a good thing.

Just for fun and because I’m such a mattress geek, I did my standard testing on this pet bed. I thought it would give you a sense of what to expect in terms of firmness and feel. Some dogs love soft and some not so much so this will hopefully help in your decision making.

Notice that there also isn’t much motion transfer although I don’t expect Dottie to have sleep overs anytime soon…

Final thoughts on the Brentwood Home Dog Bed

The foam is on the firmer side so it’s not like traditional memory foam. If your pet likes sleeping on a more pillowy surface you may want to look elsewhere. However, this is a great looking bed that my dog uses daily! I recommend purchasing directly from Brentwood Home to get the best price, the full trial period and the option of embroidering.
