Avocado vs. My Green Mattress

Organic Mattress Face-Off

I get asked about these two brands constantly at the Encinitas showroom. The "organic" mattress space is flooded with green-washing, but these two are the real deal. Both hold legitimate GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certifications. They both eliminate fiberglass and chemical flame retardants.

But here is the truth: They feel completely different. If you are trying to decide between the My Green Mattress Natural Escape and the Avocado Green Mattress, the decision really comes down to your sleeping position and how much "bounce" you want in your bed.

My Green Mattress (Natural Escape)

The Side Sleeper's Choice. The Natural Escape is a hybrid latex mattress that uses a specific 3-zone coil system. They use tighter, heavier gauge coils in the center third of the bed. This is critical for lumbar support, but the looser coils at the head and foot allow your shoulders to sink in properly.

  • Feel: Medium-Firm (6.5/10) with responsive bounce.
  • Construction: 3" GOLS Organic Dunlop Latex over a zoned pocketed coil system.
  • Best For: Side sleepers & Combo sleepers.

Avocado Green Mattress

The Back Support Tank. The Avocado is built like a tank. The defining feature here is the needle-tufting—those buttons you see on top. These aren't just for looks; they pull the layers of yarn, wool, and latex tight together without using toxic glues. This creates a pre-compressed, very dense feel.

  • Feel: Firm (7.5/10) without the pillow top.
  • Construction: 2" Dunlop Latex (Standard) over 1,414 coils.
  • Best For: Back & Stomach sleepers (or those who love a firm bed).

Ben's Verdict

I track my sleep health religiously (Oura Ring, HRV data), and heat is often the enemy of deep sleep. Both of these mattresses sleep incredibly cool due to the breathable wool and latex. However, the "feel" is the tie-breaker.

  • Choose My Green Mattress if you sleep on your side or want better value. The zoning is fantastic for alignment.
  • Choose Avocado if you want that ultra-premium, button-tufted look and a firmer, flatter surface for back sleeping.

Deep Dive: The Specs Compared

If you are a spreadsheet person (like me), this is where we get into the weeds. Here is how the Flagship models stack up on Price, Construction, and Sentiment.

1. Price & Value

Aspect MGM Natural Escape Avocado Green (Standard)
Price (Queen) ~$1,499 - $1,699 ~$1,999 - $2,199
Value Proposition High Value. You get zoned lumbar support and 3" of latex for significantly less. Premium Brand. You pay for the needle-tufting craftsmanship and the brand prestige.

2. Construction & Materials

Component MGM Natural Escape Avocado Green
Comfort Layer 3" GOLS Organic Dunlop Latex 2" GOLS Organic Dunlop Latex (Standard)
Support System 3-Zone Coil System. Heavier gauge coils in the center third for lumbar support. 5-Zone Coil System. 1,400+ coils (Queen) with reinforced perimeter.
Cover Quilted Organic Cotton & Wool (Plush feel) Button-Tufted Cotton & Wool (Dense, flat feel)

3. Customer Sentiment

Sentiment MGM Natural Escape Avocado Green
The Good "Great bounce," "Sleeps cool," "Excellent customer service from a family biz." "Built like a tank," "Helped my back pain," "Delivery guys were great."
The Bad "Too bouncy for some," "Edge support is good but not rock hard." "Too firm for side sleepers (without topper)," "Expensive," "Wait times can be long."

Battle 2: The Budget/Entry-Level Options

Contenders: My Green Mattress Kiwi vs. Avocado Eco Organic

If you are looking for a bunk bed mattress or just an affordable organic option for a guest room, this is where you should look.

1. Price & Value

Aspect MGM Kiwi Avocado Eco Organic
Price (Queen) ~$1,099 ~$1,299
Value Incredible Value. It is actually button-tufted (rare at this price) and 2-sided flippable option available. Good Value. It’s the cheapest way to get the "Avocado" brand name.

Ben's Take

The Avocado Eco Organic actually feels a bit softer than the standard Avocado Green because it lacks that tight needle-tufting compression, making it a surprisingly good option for side sleepers on a budget.

However, the MGM Kiwi is built better. The fact that they button-tuft a ~$1,000 mattress is insane value. It holds the layers together without glue. If this is for a kid or a guest room, I’d grab the Kiwi every time.
