How Long Should You Nap? Must-Have Tips for Energy Boost

How Long Should You Nap 1

How Long Should You Nap?

Returning to work after the weekend can feel like an uphill battle for many. The remnants of fatigue linger, the allure of sleeping in beckons, and the office environment often becomes a breeding ground for yawns and caffeine cravings. Before reaching for that cup of coffee, consider a more refreshing alternative: a nap.

The advantages of sleep are well-documented. As Shakespeare noted, sleep is a natural remedy for many ailments; it’s an essential component of overall health. However, modern lifestyles often deprive us of restorative slumber. Many people burn the candle at both ends, sacrificing restful nights for late nights, resulting in an urban population that trudges through the day in a sleep-deprived haze. While caffeine may offer a temporary boost, it can lead to more harm than good in the long run.

The Benefits of Napping: How Long Should You Nap?

Scientific research underscores the value of midday naps, and many forward-thinking companies have adopted nap policies for their employees. Organizations are recognizing that short naps can significantly enhance energy, productivity, and cognitive performance. However, it’s crucial to remember that a nap shouldn’t resemble a full night’s sleep; it should be brief and intentional.

To maximize the benefits of napping, consider these guidelines:

1. Tune into Your Health: Is Napping Right for You?

If you struggle with insomnia, napping might not be the best option for you. Naps are beneficial for those who are sleep-deprived, offering a much-needed energy boost. However, if you have sleep disorders like insomnia, midday naps could interfere with your ability to fall asleep at night. For insomniacs, it’s often better to skip the nap in favor of a consistent nighttime routine.

2. Limit Your Nap to 30 Minutes

Feeling groggy after a nap? This often occurs when you wake from deep sleep when your goal is just a brief rest. To avoid this, aim for a nap lasting no longer than 30 minutes. This duration, often referred to as a power nap, is optimal for refreshing those who didn’t get enough sleep the previous night without entering deeper sleep stages.

3. Embrace the Full Cycle: A 90-Minute Nap

If you have more time to spare, consider taking a 90-minute nap. This length allows the body to complete a full sleep cycle, entering REM sleep. Waking up after a complete cycle can leave you feeling more refreshed and alert, effectively combating fatigue and enhancing creativity.

4. Go Outdoors: The Sun’s Energizing Effects

Feeling drowsy between 1 PM and 3 PM? Instead of reaching for a pillow, consider spending some time outdoors. Natural sunlight can counteract the body’s production of melatonin, the hormone that promotes sleepiness. Staying active outside during these hours can rejuvenate your energy levels and keep you alert throughout the day.

5. Watch the Clock: Timing Matters

To preserve your nighttime sleep quality, avoid napping after 4 PM. Instead, aim for midday naps between noon and 4 PM. This timing ensures that you are sufficiently tired by nightfall, optimizing your chances of falling asleep easily.

How Long Should You Nap to Gain Energy?

Each individual has a unique experience with naps, often shaped by personal energy levels and lifestyle. Those who run on a tight schedule might find that a quick catnap around 2 PM can significantly boost their energy and productivity. But how long should you be napping to reap these benefits?

While there’s no absolute answer, a general guideline suggests that a nap of about 10 to 30 minutes typically enhances alertness and energy without leading to the sleep inertia associated with prolonged sleep. Some experts also endorse the 90-minute cycle for those needing a more comprehensive boost to creativity and cognitive function.

Understanding the various stages of sleep may help clarify why specific nap lengths are so effective. The first stage involves light sleep; if you wake during this phase, you may feel rejuvenated. However, during deeper sleep stages, waking up can leave you feeling lethargic.

Are Naps Truly Beneficial?

The short answer is yes; naps can significantly enhance productivity, creativity, and overall health. Organizations are beginning to recognize that accommodating brief sleep sessions during breaks can lead to heightened workplace efficiency.

For those who are skeptical about napping, alternatives like Shavasana, a restorative yoga pose, can deliver similar benefits. A few minutes of relaxation can clear your mind and recharge your batteries without the need for actual slumber.

The Optimal Time for Napping

Historically, daytime habits have evolved with the advent of artificial light, often resulting in late-night schedules devoid of adequate sleep. Finding the right time to nap can substantially influence your overall well-being.

The ideal napping window generally falls between 1 PM and 2 PM, shortly after lunch when your body’s natural urge to rest kicks in. A short snooze during this period can enhance digestion, elevate alertness, and provide a much-needed energy boost.

Napping Recommendations by Age

Napping isn’t just for adults; it’s beneficial across all age groups. Here’s a brief overview:

Newborns: Require up to 16-17 hours of sleep daily, taking frequent short naps.
Toddlers: A one-hour afternoon nap is ideal around noon.
Preschoolers: May nap for about an hour around the same time.
Teens: A 30-minute nap can help improve focus, especially after late nights.
Adults: 10-30 minute naps are optimal, reserving longer naps for days off.
Seniors (60+): A one-hour nap around 2 PM can enhance alertness and overall health.

Napping wisely can be a game changer in your daily routine. By following these guidelines on how long you should nap, you can enjoy the revitalizing benefits of a good snooze, keeping your mind sharp and your body energized.

Modway Bedframe: Stunning Review of This Affordable Gem

Modway Anya Bed

Modway Bedframe Review: A Comprehensive Look at the Anya Bed

Modway has earned a reputation for producing affordable and stylish furniture available on platforms like Amazon. I recently had the opportunity to review the Anya bed—a piece that boasts both aesthetic appeal and functional design. Priced at $171 with the added benefit of Prime shipping, this bed comes in several colors. For my review, I opted for the light gray variant.

Setting Up the Modway Anya Bed

When you choose the Anya bed, you can expect a timely delivery, especially if you have an Amazon Prime account. While it may not arrive in the typical two-day timeframe, expect your bed to land on your doorstep within 5 to 7 days, depending on stock availability.

Upon unboxing, it becomes evident that the Anya bed consists of only a few parts, simplifying the assembly process significantly. This straightforward design not only makes it user-friendly but also cuts down on setup time.

The slat system is worth mentioning; the slats have a slight bow, a characteristic that won’t compromise the mattress’s performance. However, precision during assembly is crucial, as there isn’t much room for error. While this detail may prolong the setup slightly, the result is a more robust and stable bed frame.

Anya Bed Details: What You Need to Know

According to Modway’s Amazon listing, the Anya bed offers several appealing features that elevate it above the standard offerings:

Mid-Century Modern Design: This bed serves as a perfect blend of retro charm and contemporary aesthetics, making it a stylish addition to any bedroom. Its low-profile design and clean lines enhance both master and guest rooms.

Comfortable Headboard: The foam-padded headboard is upholstered in soft polyester fabric, providing ample support for those cozy reading sessions or lazy mornings.

Durable Construction: Built with a sturdy plywood frame, the Anya bed promises quiet, noise-free sleep. Its reinforced center beam and cross-beam support add an extra layer of stability.

Box Spring Alternative: Forget about the hassle of needing a box spring! The Anya bed’s design negates this requirement with its solid mattress foundation. The wooden slats are spaced less than three inches apart, effectively supporting both memory foam and innerspring mattresses.

Flexible Design: With dimensions of 81 x 60.5 x 36.5 inches, this bed complements a range of decor styles—from modern to farmhouse.

Product Specifications

Item Weight: 50 pounds
Shipping Weight: 53 pounds
Clearance: The bed offers approximately 5 inches of clearance underneath for storage, consistent with its modern, low-profile design. The height from the floor to the slats is 10 inches, which means you’ll find yourself about 20 inches off the ground when lying down—ideal for most mattress sizes.

My Modway Anya Findings

Overall, I find the Modway Anya bed a solid investment for its price point. If you’re in search of a simple, no-frills bed, this one certainly fits the bill. In comparison, another popular option is the Zinus line, which features similar aesthetics but utilizes flat slats instead of bowed ones. Despite these differences, I didn’t perceive any decline in performance due to the slat design—once the mattress is in place, any slight bowing disappears.

It’s important to highlight that, similar to Zinus beds, all railings and slats are housed within the back of the headboard. This means you can expect a compact box upon delivery, approximately the size of the headboard itself.

While the Amazon reviews for the Anya bed are somewhat mixed at present, I personally did not experience any quality issues with the unit I received.

Conclusion: Is the Modway Anya Bed Right for You?

In summary, the Modway Anya bed offers a great combination of style, comfort, and affordability. If you are on the hunt for a reliable bedframe without breaking the bank, the Anya is certainly worth considering. Its modern design and functional features make it a versatile addition to any bedroom. Whether you lean more towards contemporary charm or simple practicality, the Anya bed could be your next perfect fit. Explore this option further to see if it aligns with your bedroom needs.

The design features interchangeable layers, allowing for quick adjustments to accommodate your evolving sleep needs.

Construction Details of the Morphiis Mattress

The Morphiis mattress is built with several innovative components to enhance comfort and support:

My Experience with the Morphiis Mattress

Upon trying the Morphiis mattress, I was pleasantly surprised by how responsive it was. Its construction offers a slight bounce, reminiscent of latex, making it easier to shift positions throughout the night. The edges are constructed with medium-firm material to provide robust edge support, a vital feature for anyone who prefers sleeping close to the side.

To assess the motion transfer capabilities, I conducted a simple test using a 12-pound bowling ball. The video results illustrated that the mattress effectively minimizes motion transfer, making it an excellent choice for couples who may disturb each other while sleeping.

A Closer Look at Firmness Levels

In exploring the different firmness levels—soft, medium, and firm—I found that each layer reacted quickly and efficiently, bouncing back swiftly after pressure was applied. For those curious about the levels of sinkage available, visual demonstrations showcase how deeply each layer accommodates your body, providing a clear picture of what to expect.

Why I Recommend the Morphiis Mattress

The Morphiis mattress is particularly advantageous for couples who have differing firmness preferences. It caters to individuals who require targeted pressure relief and customized support. With its ability to provide granular zoned support, stomach and back sleepers will find it especially appealing.

While side sleepers may desire a little more sinkage for pressure relief on their hips and shoulders, the customization options allow each sleeper to adapt the mattress to their specific needs.

In conclusion, the Morphiis mattress offers a unique sleeping solution that sets it apart from its competitors. With high levels of customization, robust construction, and a risk-free trial period, it caters to various sleep preferences, ensuring a comfortable night’s rest for the entire household.

Sex: The Stunning Secret to Effortless Sleep

sex and sleep

Can Sex Lead to Better Sleep?

Your bedroom serves dual purposes: it’s a sanctuary for sleep and an intimate space for romance. But how can sex—an act that typically engages and arouses—actually pave the way for a better night’s sleep? Surprisingly, these two experiences complement each other. The more frequently you engage in sex, the more likely you are to enjoy improved sleep.

How Sex Leads to Better Sleep

It’s a common truth: sex can significantly ease your path to slumber. The science behind this fascinating connection lies in the hormonal responses triggered during sexual activity. When you engage in sex, your body releases oxytocin—often dubbed the love hormone. This hormone not only fosters feelings of affection toward your partner but also plays a pivotal role in reducing cortisol, the hormone associated with stress.

Moreover, during orgasm, another hormone known as prolactin is released. This release is crucial; prolactin is instrumental in inducing a sense of relaxation and drowsiness. Once the act of sex concludes, you may find yourself in a blissfully tranquil state, perfect for embracing your partner and drifting into sleep.

Effects on Both Genders

Women experience unique benefits from sex that enhance their sleep quality. During intimate moments, estrogen levels rise, which can lead to an extended period in the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep—a phase known for its restorative qualities. Women often report a more profound and restful sleep following sexual activity, largely attributed to this hormonal shift.

For men, the advantages are equally compelling. Engaging in sexual activities provides immediate stress relief, especially after reaching orgasm. The body transitions into a state of calmness and relaxation, making it easier to drift off into a deep slumber. This natural “medicine” can be transformative, offering a quick and effective solution for those seeking quality rest.

The Relationship Between Sleep and Sex

However, the relationship between sleep and sex is not one-sided. Poor sleep habits can severely affect your libido and overall sexual desire. If you or your partner struggle to get restorative sleep, it may lead to fewer intimate moments and increased stress. Conditions like sleep apnea, disrupted sleep patterns, or excessive tossing and turning can not only impact sleep quality but also dampen your sexual chemistry.

If you find yourself in a situation where inadequate sleep is hindering your desire for intimacy, the solution may lie in having more sex. As previously discussed, sex serves as an excellent stress reliever. The act not only brings you closer to your partner but also creates a nurturing environment that fosters intimacy. When you and your partner engage in more intimate encounters, it can lift your spirits and strengthen your bond, cultivating a more fulfilling relationship.

Building a Better Sleep Cycle Through Intimacy

Imagine replacing those restless nights spent tossing and turning with moments of connection and pleasure. Instead of worrying about sleep, you could focus on your partner, transforming your bedroom into a haven for both relaxation and intimacy. This new approach not only promises a healthier lifestyle but also helps mitigate daily stresses.

The cycle is simple: a fulfilling sex life can lead to better sleep, which, in turn, enhances your desire for intimacy. This mutually beneficial relationship creates a harmonious balance, as both quality sleep and a satisfying sex life are interconnected. Investing in one positively influences the other, setting the stage for overall well-being.

Conclusion: The Sleep-Sex Connection Matters

In conclusion, the interplay between sex and sleep is a remarkable aspect of human experience, emphasizing how crucial intimacy can be for overall health. If you want to cultivate better sleep, consider integrating more sexual activity into your routine. This not only improves your night’s rest but also strengthens your emotional connection with your partner.

So, instead of languishing in bed worrying about what’s keeping you awake, shift your focus to your partner. Embrace the natural healing powers of intimacy, guaranteeing both of you a lifestyle rich with pleasure and void of stress. By fostering this cycle, you can experience the deep, restorative sleep you crave—because ultimately, better sex can indeed lead to better sleep.

I received a free CMFRT weighted blanket for review. Weighted blankets are a great way to calm your nerves and relax after a long day. Weighted blankets have been used by first responders to help relax victims for car accidents, house fires, etc. More recently weighted blankets have also been used by occupational therapists to calm children with sensory sensitivities.

Weighted blankets are now becoming mainstream and people are now learning that these blankets can benefit people who are just feeling a little anxious or may want to get better sleep.

Recent studies have pointed out that they improve sleep quality and the accelerate the onset of sleep. Of course, this could also be accomplished with a heavy down blanket but chances are you are going to overheat quickly which will wake you up. Down blankets just aren’t a sensible solution in warmer months either.

The CMFRT weighted blanket is made with tiny pellets which add the weight. They are stitched into square boxes throughout the blanket so that the weight is distributed evenly. Because these little pellets arent insulators, the blanket is breathable and stays cool keeping your comfortable while you sleep or just use it throughout the day.

My CMFRT Weighted Blanket Findings

I have tried weighted blankets before. The other weighted blanket I tried had a cotton cover and was not machine washable. I really like this weighted blanket because it has minky fabric and the cover can be removed an washed. It looks and feels great as are a couple different colors to choose from.

This blanket lives mostly in our daughter’s room as she has taken a liking to it although my wife and I borrow it to take naps during the day.

Douglas Mattress Review: Must-Have for Effortless Sleep

Douglas Mattress Review

he Douglas mattress is an all-foam mattress made in Canada. It has a medium-firm firmness level, which is the most popular firmness level for mattresses. The Douglas mattress is made with two layers of proprietary foams:

  • Top layer: 2 inches of gel-infused ecoLight memory foam. This layer provides pressure relief and cooling.
  • Bottom layer: 6 inches of base polyfoam. This layer provides support and durability.

The Douglas mattress is encased in a Tencel cover, which is a soft and breathable material. The mattress is also CertiPUR-US certified, which means that it is made with safe and sustainable materials.

The Douglas mattress is a good choice for people of all sleeping positions, but it is especially well-suited for back sleepers and side sleepers. The medium-firm firmness level provides good support for the spine and helps to keep the body in alignment. The pressure relief provided by the top layer of foam can also help to reduce back pain and shoulder pain.

The Douglas mattress is also a good choice for people who are looking for an affordable mattress. It is priced significantly lower than many other all-foam mattresses on the market.

Overall, the Douglas mattress is a good value for the money. It is made with high-quality materials, has a medium-firm firmness level that is suitable for most sleepers, and is priced affordably.

The Douglas mattress is a true Canadian mattress. It is made with materials all sourced from Canada, was designed by Canadians and can only be bought in Canada. This is a memory foam mattress that uses more eco-friendly foams than the competition which makes it a more responsible choice at a great price point.  Currently a queen size Douglas retails for $799 Canadian which makes it a fantastic value.

How is the Douglas Mattress Made?

Douglas mattress layers

According to their website, Doulgas mattresses are made with Canadian-built foams and fabrics. The top 2” comfort layer is made of ecoLight™ cooling gel foam, developed to be 50% less taxing on our environment but just as durable as high density memory foam. The middle 2” layer is made of Elastex™ foam to give the mattress just the right amount of bounce. The bottom 6” support foam isolates movement and provides better edge support. The washable cover is made from an eco-friendly Natural Eucalyptus Fabric™.

My Douglas Mattress Findings

When you first lay down on this mattress you will notice that it immediately contours to your spine. This gives the mattress a soft feeling. You are then supported by the middle and base layer at the bottom.

Here’s a photo of my 14 lb. bowling ball to illustrate the point.

This is an all foam mattress so motion transfer is contained. In comparison to the hundreds of other mattresses I have reviewed the top layer recovers quickly for being a foam mattress making it easier to switch positions at night. You won’t get that stuck feeling that dense foam mattresses known for.

Here’s a vidoe showing how each layer of the mattress reacts.

My Douglas Mattress Recommendations

Overall I would rate this mattress on the softer end of the spectrum. I really like how the top layer feels. It is soft but recovers really quickly given how well it contours. This is what really makes the Douglas stand out from the other competition among the Canadian offerings. I think side sleepers will love this mattress because it really addresses pressure relief for your hips but especially your shoulders. Because the top layer of foam recovers fast, you don’t have to wait to get your, “spot” back when shifting positions or getting out of bed then coming back.

I recommend the Douglas to side back and occasional stomach sleepers that want quick contouring and a softer feel without sacrificing support or pressure relief. This mattress also sleeps on the cooler end of the spectrum for a memory foam mattress.

My Allswell  Mattress Findings

This mattress is more on the medium firm end of the spectrum. You won’t sink into it too much and that makes it easier to change positions. You also won’t be surrounded as much by the mattress so it won’t sleep hot. All foam mattresses can make it difficult to change positions as you have to wait for the foam to start to conform again. With the Allswell, you get a little bit of bounce and good support from the spring system. Allswell SinkageHere’s a look inside the mattress so you can see how each layer responds. You can clearly see the pocketed coil system and the yellow layer of transition foam. The gel foam layer is quilted into the fabric so you can’t see it but it provides a really nice feel at the top without being overly squishy. The mattress handles motion transfer well because each coil moves independently. While you will get some motion transfer it won’t be enough to wake your partner unless you are jumping around.

Does the Allswell Sleep Hot?

This mattress sleeps fairly cool because it has a sping system for more breathability and because you dont sink into it that much. Since your body isn’t surrounded by the mattress, heat won’t get trapped.

Best Allswell Mattress by Sleeping Position

To help you choose the best Allswell mattress based on your sleeping position, here are our recommendations:
  1. Side Sleepers: Allswell Luxe Hybrid Mattress – The Luxe Hybrid is the best option for side sleepers due to its thick layer of memory foam, which provides excellent pressure relief and contours to your body’s curves.
  2. Back Sleepers: Allswell Supreme Mattress – Back sleepers need a mattress that offers both support and comfort, and the Allswell Supreme fits the bill. It features a plush Euro top layer for added comfort and a supportive coil system to keep your spine properly aligned.
  3. Stomach Sleepers: Allswell Hybrid Mattress – Stomach sleepers need a firmer mattress to prevent their hips from sinking too far into the bed, causing an unnatural curve in their spine. The Allswell Hybrid has a firm feel thanks to its supportive coil system, which provides the necessary support for stomach sleepers.
  4. Combination Sleepers: Allswell Brick Mattress – Combination sleepers need a mattress that can accommodate their various sleeping positions. The Allswell Brick is a versatile mattress that offers a balance of support and comfort, making it an excellent choice for combination sleepers.

The Allswell Mattress Warranty

Allswell offers a 10-year limited warranty on their mattresses. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, including sagging or body impressions of 1.5 inches or greater, physical flaws in the mattress that cause the foam or spring materials to split or crack, and manufacturing defects in the cover zipper or seams. To make a warranty claim, you need to contact Allswell’s customer service team and provide proof of purchase, such as an order confirmation or receipt. Allswell will then arrange for an inspection of the mattress to determine if it qualifies for a warranty claim. If your claim is approved, Allswell will either repair or replace the mattress, depending on the extent of the damage. However, the warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, damage caused by misuse or abuse of the mattress, or changes in comfort preferences. It’s important to note that the warranty is only valid for the original purchaser of the mattress and is non-transferable. Additionally, the warranty does not cover mattresses that are used for commercial or institutional purposes.

Allswell Mattress Complaints

Here are some common complaints that customers have had about Allswell mattresses:
  1. Firmness: Some customers have reported that Allswell mattresses are firmer than they expected, especially for those who ordered the Allswell Hybrid Mattress.
  2. Sagging: A few customers have reported that their Allswell mattress began to sag or develop body impressions within a few months of use, which can affect the comfort and support of the mattress.
  3. Odor: Some customers have reported a chemical odor coming from their Allswell mattress, which can be unpleasant and take several days or weeks to dissipate.
  4. Edge support: A few customers have reported that the edge support on their Allswell mattress is not as strong as they would like, which can make it difficult to sit or sleep near the edge of the bed.
  5. Delivery issues: Some customers have reported issues with delivery, including delayed shipments, incorrect items being shipped, or damaged packaging.

My Allswell Mattress Recommendation

This mattress is an incredible deal. You would be hard pressed to find a less expensive mattress with these specs and made in the USA. I have found other brands at this price point and construction don’t use foams that conform as well and just don’t transition as well as this mattress. In other words you feel like you are sleeping on a spring mattress with a cheap foam topper. With the Allswell it just feels like a nice comfortable bed. You don’t get the feeling like you are on just foam or just springs and that’s the way it should be. You can’t go wrong trying out this mattress. If you find you like it, you just scored one of the best bargains in town. If by chance you don’t like it, returns are free and easy and you can persue other mattresses that are more expensive.

Allswell Bedding

Allswell is a one-stop shop for not only mattresses but also pillows, throws and possibly other accessories including sheets. Allswell describes themselves as a “Instagram-worthy dream bed”. If you decide to go with the bedding collection, you have a 30-day trial where you can return them if not satisfied. Allswell is the first brand I have tried where they put a lot of effort into getting the whole bedroom aesthetic right.  Allswell partnered with four top designers:

Best Mattress for People with Allergies

Best Mattress for Allergies

How to Choose the Best Mattress for People Struggling with Allergies?

Many people struggle with different types of allergies, and that puts some restrictions on their lifestyle. If some allergies are not addressed on-time, it can lead to critical conditions and even to death.

Most people sleep an average of seven to eight hours a night. Such a prolonged exposure to allergens from mattresses can create serious consequences. It is a known fact that the dust mites are the primary cause of nightly allergies. If you are facing such nightly allergies, your choice is to keep your mattress always clean.

However, to avoid continued allergy issues, the right choice is investing on a mattress that works against causes of allergy. The common reactions to dust mite allergies are sneezing, wheezing, and itching. Do you know that it also causes headaches, depression, and fatigue?

Characteristics of Anti-Allergy Mattresses

While choosing an anti-allergy mattress, you should have a checklist to select the appropriate one for you. You should find the mattress easy to clean as you need to clean it often. You should also invest in a mattress protector that is water repellant to avoid the growth of mold and dust mites.

Ideal Mattresses for Allergy Sufferers

An air mattress would be an ideal mattress fro allergy sufferers but probably not the most comfortable. Such mattresses would have no areas or incubators for dust mites to grow. You should also ensure that the mattresses do not have any open cavity to give space for allergens accumulation.

Aside from an air mattress, memory foam and solid latex mattresses have excellent anti-allergy properties.

Memory Foam Mattress

Memory foam mattresses are built using very dense visco-elastic foam. The mattress increasingly uses fabric that does not offer livable condition for mites. It helps you to reduce the chances to encounter dust mites and allows your surroundings to keep allergen-free and clean.

Depends on how dense the mattress you choose; you get more promising results on restricting the dust mites. Do you know memory foam mattresses also become a great option for people struggling with back and joint pain?

Since it is cushioned, you feel great support for your bones and joints. Also, if you choose mattress toppers made from memory foam, you can further reduce allergens and ensure a comfortable sleep.

Apart from choosing normal memory foam, you can select plant-based foams to ensure natural breathability and a cooler sleep.

Latex Mattresses

It is another great option to keep dust mites away from you and ensure allergy-free sleep. The mattress is made from latex-based foams. Initially, the natural sap from rubber trees is converted into the foam. Then, the mattress makers properly mix the foam with synthetic latex to design and make the mattress.

Latex mattresses showcase excellent hypoallergenic characteristics. Additionally, it is antibacterial in nature and avoids moisture build-up that can cause mold formation and dust mite growth.

Interestingly, latex mattresses are also known for its capability to be easily molded. The mattress also provides excellent support and comfort to the sleepers. It means that you can get proper support for your back and joints.

However, people who face the issue of latex allergy should not use the product.

Tips to Choose Hypoallergenic Mattresses

You should choose mattresses made from hypoallergenic, natural, and anti-microbial materials. Both memory foam and latex mattresses showcase excellent hypoallergenic properties.

The hypoallergenic mattresses create an unfriendly environment for mold, mildew, allergens, and dust mites. The open cell structure and extensive washing process eliminate all sorts of allergic reaction risks. Additionally, you should use organic cotton or wool barrier to cover the mattress for avoiding direct contact with foam or latex.

Similarly, you should also choose hypoallergenic pillows for a complete allergy-free sleep. The filler materials of those pillows showcase better breathability to prevent humidity and moisture successfully. You should note that both moisture and humidity attract dust mites. You can also choose pillows that can clean easily and better.

Important Things to Remember

Before purchasing the mattress, you should try it and ensure that it is fitting to your needs. A large majority of mattresses give you the free trial option for a few months. You can effectively use the trial period and ensure it fits your needs.

Do you know that health experts usually ask people to change the mattress in every ten years for better health?

Real Sleep: Must-Have Mattress for Effortless Comfort

Real Sleep mattress

The Real Sleep mattress is the latest mattress in a box offering from the magazine, Real Simple. This is a two layer foam mattress measuring 10 inches deep with an organic cotton cover. This mattress comes with a 100 night trial where you get 100 nights to try it out and if not happy, return it hassle free to get all your money back.

Unboxing and Overview of the Real Sleep Mattress

Here’s a video overview of the Real Simple Mattress.

This mattress comes compressed in a box. This is the box I received for my queen size mattress. Your mattress should arrive about a week after placing your order online.

When you open the box you get a nice welcome message.

Out of the box the mattress is wrapped in plastic to keep it from expanding.

Real sleep gives you opening instructions and a letter opener to cut into the plastic.

Construction of the Real Sleep Mattress

I couldn’t find specific details on the foam densities of this mattress from their website. Here is the construction information that they do list.

• Exceptional pressure relief

• Moisture and heat dissipation for better temperature management

• CertiPUR-US certified. No volatile organic compounds

• Made with the cleanest manufacturing processes in the industry

• Scientifically tested for long-lasting durability and comfort

• 100% Organic cotton cover

How Much Does the Real Sleep Mattress Cost?

Here are the prices as listed on their Real Simple mattress website before discounts.

Twin $600
Twin XL $700
Full $850
Queen $995
King $1,150
Cal King $1,150

Here’s how much each size weighs:

Twin 50 lbs.
Twin XL 55 lbs.
Full 65 lbs.
Queen 79 lbs.
King 102 lbs.
Cal King 102 lbs.

My Real Sleep Mattress Findings

Overall I found this mattress to be similar to the Puffy however this mattress has an organic cotton cover while the puffy has a conventional cover. What you get is a nice supportive base and a top layer with a slower reacting foam that contours better.

Here’s a video demonstrating motion transfer. The bowling ball hits the mattress then starts sinking. A spring mattress will instantly sink when the bowling ball hits and then push back. With this mattress, most of the motion is absorbed.

Here’s a look inside the mattress. You can clearly see the two layers and how each layer reacts. The cotton cover has a zipper so removing it is easy.

Below is a picture of my 14lb. bowling ball on the Real Sleep mattress. This is classified as a medium firm mattress and I would say that’s an accurate assessment. For a memory foam mattress is is in the middle of the spectrum for firmness.

My Real Sleep Recommendation

This mattress is versatile enough for all sleepers but I think it works best for stomach and back sleepers. Overall it’s a great feel and the dense foam on the top layer provides enough pressure relief so that you really don’t need a transition layer. I appreciate that the cover is made with organic cotton but it is not an all natural mattress since the inside is memory foam.

I recommend this mattress for people looking for a supportive mattress with no motion transfer and minimal hug. This mattress doesn’t cradle quite as much as other mattresses such as hybrids and therefore won’t sleep as hot either. The Real Simple mattress shouldn’t disappoint.

Purple 3 Mattress Review: Must-Have for Effortless Comfort

Purple 3 mattress

I recently purchased a Purple 3 mattress for review. This mattress is made with a base pocket coil system and 3 inches of their Smart Comfort Grid making it softer and more plush feeling than the original Purple.

Overview of the Purple 3 Mattress

Here’s a brief overview of the Purple 3 mattress. Overall I found it to be considerably firmer than the Purple 4. I recommend this version to back and occasional side sleepers. Stomach sleepers will be better suited to the original purple or even Purple 2. Side sleepers need to go with the Purple 4.

How Much Does the Purple 3 Cost?

Here are the current prices. You should note that you get free white glove delivery. This is a very heavy mattress and does not come compressed. It comes in a full size box which will take two people to move.

Twin XL $1,899
Queen $2,199
King $2,699
Cal King $2,699

How is the Purple 3 Mattress Made?

Here are the construction details according to the Purple website.

Quick Specs

Trial & Return: 100 Nights
Warranty: 10-Year Limited Warranty
Build:
Top Layer: Hyper-Elastic Polymer withNon-toxic polyethylene copolymer powder coating on 1/2 ” 2.0 density polyurethane foam
Base Layer: Polypropylene fabric encased coils on 1″ 2.0 density foam
Encasing: 2.0 density polyurethane foam

Coils: 13.75 gauge, 2-ply Polypropylene pockets, 95% recycled steel
Color: White
Fabric Content:
Knit fabric on top 98% polyester / 2% spandex
Quilted, woven fabric on the sides at 99% polyester / 1% spandex
The bottom is a woven fabric 100% polyester
Fire Retardant: Non-Toxic Knit Barrier (not chemically treated)
Basic Care: Spot clean with mild detergent (Eg: upholstery cleaner). Machine wash/dry not recommended.

My Purple 3 Mattress Findings

This mattress is really bouncy but it doesn’t transfer that much motion. This is in large part to the grid system on the top layer that has high point elasticity. This means it will collapse where it gets the most pressure and stay in tact where it doesn’t. Additionally, it is supported by a pocket coil system. All these coils are individually wrapped and work independently.

Here’s a video to illustrate the point.

For comparison sake, here’s another video with the Purple 4

To further help you decide which is right for you. Below is a picture of how much my 14 lb. bowling ball sinks on the Purple 3.

Here it is again on the Purple 4. Notice that the Purple 4 hugs the ball a bit more than the 3.

Here’s a look inside the Purple mattress. As you can see it features their signature Smart Comfort Grid and along the perimeter, there is foam to give you better edge support. The Original Purple does not have this type of edge support system.

The Smar Grid makes for a temperature neutral sleep environment and is good for pressure relief.

My Purple 3 Recommendation

As I have said in my previous Purple mattress reviews, there’s just no other mattress that feels like a Purple. The grid on the top layer is good a relieving pressure and there is no better mattress on the market right now that will sleep cooler. The Purple 3 is plusher than the Purple 2 and the Original Purple which makes it more suited to side sleepers but I still think the Purple 4 is the best of their lineup for side sleepers.

You get a 100 night trial period with this mattress. You should keep in mind that this is valid for the first mattress purchase only. If you buy and don’t like this mattress and return it within 100 days, you will get a full refund. However, if you then buy another Purple mattress you aren’t eligible for another 100 day trial. Just keep that in mind and make sure you are educated enough to make the right decision the first time.

Due to its naturally long fibers, Pima cotton feels silky, yet durable, so the fabric will not pill in the wash. I.U sheets also use a percale weave which is a plain style weave. This means that the threads cross over and under each other, one at a time. This tight type of weave gives linens a crisp and breathable feel without feeling cheap. I.U Wake Up sheets are also Oeko-Tex certified, meaning that the fabrics are free of harmful chemicals. I.U Wake Up also instills the business model of “buy one, give one.” The company has partnered with the Peruvian nonprofit, Kusimayo, so that for every sheet set purchased, a recycled-fiber blanket will be donated to communities in the mountains of Peru, where about 500 people die annually due to extreme cold weather conditions, along with poverty and malnourishment. Each I.U Wake Up set is available in white, with plans for more color options and printed patterns in the future, and in sizes Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King. Each set includes two pillowcases, one top sheet and one bottom sheet starting at $79 on Indiegogo. To learn more about the campaign, visit bit.ly/IUWakeUpIGG. Leesa Sheets Review: Stunning Comfort Without the Hassle

Leesa SHeets

Leesa Sheets Review

If you’re on the hunt for quality bed sheets, Leesa has recently launched their own line of sheets, and I took the plunge to see how they stack up against other online brands. The verdict? These sheets are incredibly smooth, breathable, and versatile enough to complement not just your Leesa mattress, but virtually any online mattress brand.

Overview of the Leesa Sheets

The Leesa Sheets are designed with versatility in mind. Crafted from a luxurious sateen weave, these sheets boast a remarkable 500-thread count, making them suitable for various mattress thicknesses, including a 10-inch Leesa or thicker options like the Sapira. To bring these sheets to life, Leesa has partnered with Third, a brand known for quality craftsmanship.

The price tag for a queen size set is $155, and once you place your order, expect them to arrive within a week or less. They come neatly packaged in a box, adding an element of anticipation to your unboxing experience.

Upon opening the box, you’ll find surprises that elevate the overall purchasing experience.

Delightful Extras

One of the first elements that catch your eye is a stylish zippable pouch. Inside, you’ll discover a calming lavender spray that you can spritz on your sheets post-wash or use to freshen up your bedroom atmosphere. Additionally, a couple of soothing tea bags are included to help you unwind and facilitate restful sleep. The lavender spray features a minimal ingredient list, showcasing Leesa’s commitment to simplicity and quality.

The sheets are also carefully packaged in plastic sleeves, ensuring they remain clean and protected during transport, a thoughtful touch that many brands overlook.

My Findings on Leesa Sheets

The smoothness of the Leesa Sheets is evident from the first touch, thanks to their sateen weave, which gives them a luxurious hand feel, unlike the crisper percale options. You’ll also appreciate the subtle sheen they provide, enhancing the overall aesthetic of your bedding.

Another notable feature is the signature Leesa strip on the tag, alongside the Third label, which highlights the partnership. This collaboration reflects the high standards upheld by both brands, ensuring you receive quality sheets.

Here’s a closer look at the fitted sheet:

Leesa Sheet Construction

As shared on Leesa’s website, here are the key construction details that make these sheets stand out:

Native Egyptian Gossypium Barbadense cotton: Renowned for its exceptional quality.
Long-staple cotton fibers: Ensuring strength and durability.
Strong single-ply yarn: Offering a smooth texture without the bulk.
Sateen weave: For that ultra-soft finish.
High-quality 500-thread count: Balancing luxury and durability.
Certified STANDARD 100 by Oeko-Tex®: A testament to their safety and eco-friendliness.

My Recommendation for Leesa Sheets

While the price of $155 for a queen set may lean towards the higher end, the value these sheets offer is notable. Leesa provides an impressive 75-night trial—a generous policy that allows you ample time to wash, sleep, and assess the sheets’ compatibility with your mattress setup. If they don’t meet your expectations, you can return them hassle-free within that window.

From my experience, the sheets maintained their smoothness after the first wash, exhibiting minimal shrinkage, which is often a concern with high-thread-count fabrics. They are breathable and lightweight, and their pocket depth is designed to fit most online mattresses comfortably, accommodating those in the typical 10-12 inch range.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Leesa Sheets are a worthy investment for anyone seeking comfort and quality in their bedding. Their unique construction, delightful extras, and a customer-friendly return policy enhance the overall experience. Whether you’re a proud owner of a Leesa mattress or any other brand, these sheets elevate your sleep environment.

Explore how the Leesa Sheets can transform your bedding experience—it might just be the upgrade you’ve been looking for.

How to Prevent and Fix Text Neck

Text Neck

Mobile phones and computers have taken over our lives. There are several benefits that these devices help us with. From keeping us connected and entertained to letting us work from anywhere in the world, computers and phones have changed our lives in a lot of ways. However, no technology is ever without its side effects. If you’re reading this right now, you’re probably looking down at your smartphone screen or hunched over the PC. When that is your posture for a long time, it can lead to several physical problems. One such problem is known as text neck.

What Is Text Neck?

If you work long hours in front of the computer or spend most of the day looking at your phone screen, you will experience stiff neck. This stiffness in the neck is medically termed as “text neck,” something you get when your head is looking down for a long time, whether you’re reading a book or texting someone.

A large section of the population suffers from text neck today, although not many are aware that the condition has a name. Text neck can happen to anyone, whether or not you use a phone. Whenever your head is tilted forward for a long time, you will get a feeling of stiffness in the neck. You could be chopping vegetables, watching videos on your phone, or writing in bed– a tilted head gives rise to a stiff neck. This is what is called text neck.

Why Does It Happen?

We know we get text neck when our head remains tilted for a long time, leading to bad posture. But why exactly does this happen?

As common knowledge suggests, the head is the heaviest part of the human body. An average human head weighs at least 10 pounds (or 4.5 kilograms). In comparison, the neck is much lighter and leaner. As long as the head remains in the right posture, the weight of the head remains balanced on the neck. However, the pressure becomes uneven when the head is tilted, leading to various problems, such as text neck. Stiffness in the neck is often the first symptom of spondylitis and can lead to more severe spinal problems if not treated in time.

To find out how much pressure is exerted by the head on the neck, take a ten-pound ball and fix it on a stick. As long as the ball is straight, the stick finds it easy to balance the weight. The moment you tilt the ball, the stick starts to bend and crack under pressure.

Fixing and Preventing Text Neck

While your neck may not break from the pressure of your tilted head, it can lead to muscle stiffness and soreness. The digital age has made it possible for everyone to work on the computer. On the downside, the longer you spend hunched over the computer, the worse your text neck gets. In most cases, people don’t realize they have a problem. But if you realize that you have a chronic stiff neck problem, you must take steps to fix it. But the same devices that give us stiff neck can be used to prevent it.

There are several apps available today that can detect the angle of your head and ask you to correct your posture. One such app shows a picture of a head in the notification bar; when the head turns red it means you need to straighten your head, and if the head is green, it indicates good posture. These apps generally work by detecting the tilt of your phone, as that is associated with the tilt of your head. Although this isn’t a perfect solution, it does help you to remind from time to time to correct your posture while using your device.

You can also use the voice command on your phone to reduce the need for looking at the screen. Every phone has a certain type of voice command available, the most common being ‘OK Google.’

Exercise

Stretching is one of the best exercises to combat text neck. Adding core strengthening exercises to your workout regime and stretching your neck at work or while using your phone are some good ways to fight the stiffness. To make the stretching regular, add reminders on your phone at certain intervals that will alert you to stretch. Every few minutes, lifting your head and stretching your neck is of great help.

In not so severe cases, the above measure can keep text neck under control. However, if the symptoms persist, a medical evaluation should be done to rule out underlying causes.

Leesa Hybrid Pillow: The Best Must-Have for Hot Sleepers

Leesa Hybrid Pillow

Leesa Hybrid Pillow Review

When it comes to achieving a restful night’s sleep, the right pillow can make all the difference. Enter the Leesa Hybrid Pillow, a thoughtfully designed product that combines the softness of down alternative fill with the refreshing coolness of a gel component. With a standard size priced at $125 and a queen size for $135, this pillow is not just a financial investment; it’s an investment in your sleep quality. Let’s dive deeper into what makes the Leesa Hybrid Pillow a standout choice for sleep enthusiasts.

Overview of the Leesa Hybrid Pillow

In a quick video overview, you’ll notice that the Leesa Hybrid Pillow features two distinctive sides. One side boasts a quilted down alternative fill that mimics the plushness of a traditional pillow, while the other side incorporates a cooling gel layer that sits just beneath the top cover. This design is particularly advantageous for those who struggle with overheating during the night.

Dimensions and Materials

Understanding the specifics of the Leesa Hybrid Pillow is crucial for making an informed decision. Here are its construction details:

Sleep Experience with the Leesa Hybrid Pillow

Having tested the Leesa Hybrid Pillow extensively, I’ve found it to be remarkably versatile. One of its standout features is the ability to adjust its thickness. Inside the pillow, there’s an insert that can be removed for those who prefer a thinner profile. While there are other pillows offering more extensive customization, the adjustability of the Leesa Hybrid should suffice for most sleepers.

On the quilted side, you’ll experience a slower recovery compared to the original Leesa pillow, which has a more latex-like feel. However, the cozy nature of this pillow more than compensates for that difference, making it a solid option for anyone looking to snuggle into a softer, more traditional pillow feel.

The cooling gel side also deserves its moment in the spotlight. It’s designed to actively combat heat retention, making it an excellent choice for individuals who tend to sleep hot. A quick video showcases its effectiveness in dissipating heat, establishing it as one of the better cooling technologies on the market today.

Personal Insights and Recommendations

What I appreciate most about the Leesa Hybrid Pillow is the variety it offers. Personally, I find the quilted side to be more comfortable, as it conforms to my head and neck while still providing adequate support. This softness, combined with the pillow’s ability to distribute fill evenly, minimizes the risk of clumping, a common issue with lower-quality pillows.

For hot sleepers, the cooling gel side offers a refreshing alternative, maintaining temperature regulation throughout the night. While it may not conform as well as the quilted side, it provides an excellent balance of support and cooling comfort.

In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the Leesa Hybrid Pillow to anyone seeking a balance of traditional down feel with modern, supportive features. It’s an excellent choice for individuals who value comfort and maintain a higher body temperature while sleeping.

For a foam hybrid mattress, I would classify it on the softer end of the spectrum, probably a medium soft. I do like how all the layers transition well. With some mattresses, you will feel the transition from foam to hitting the springs as you lay down. That’s not the case here.

Here’s a picture of my 14 lb. bowling ball on the mattress to give you an idea of how much it will sink..

Sink on the eluxury supply mattress

Here’s another video showing motion transfer. This mattress has very little motion transfer. I think that’s because there are softer foams on the top layer which absorb most of the impact. It does have coils but micro coils really don’t transfer motion. These coils provide just a little more contouring that foam alone cannot provide.

Here’s a video that shows how well the mattress dissipates heat. I would say that this mattress is sort of middle of the road for heat dissipation. If your primary concern is sleeping hot there are better choices out there but I didn’t notice it to necessarily sleep hot.

My eLuxury Supply Recommendation

There are other micro coil and foam mattresses on the market with similar construction, however, at $1,000 for a queen size this is a pretty good deal. Among the other microcoil mattresses this one is slightly softer. It lacks some of the cooling features such as a phase change cover but if you aren’t a hot sleeper, you won’t miss this. Eluxury has a 120 night hassle free return policy so there’s no risk in trying it out.

I recommend this mattress for people that like a soft foam mattress but want just a little more push back that foam alone cannot provide. With the micro coil system you get the benefits of having a softer, denser foam at the top while the micro coils can do the work of springing it back to life a little quicker.

Helix Pillow Review: Must-Have for Effortless Sleep Comfort

Helix Pillow Review

The Helix pillow is an adjustable pillow with two options, the original Helix Pillow and the Helix Cool which has a phase change fabric in the cover that is cool to the touch. A standard size retails for $85 while a King size sells for $99. The pillow comes with a 100 night sleep trial which is super generous for a pillow. This means if you don’t like it within the 100 days, returns are free and you get all your money back.

Ordering Your Helix Pillows

After placing your order through the Helix website, your pillow should arrive in about 5 business days. Here’s a picture of the box my pillows arrived in.

Helix Pillow Box

When you open the box you will find your pillow plastic wrapped to keep it clean and a nice little booklet explaining how to adjust the pillow.

Helix Pillow Unboxing

Overview of the Helix Pillows

In the video below I break down the main difference between the regular helix pillow and the Helix Cool. Basically, the Helix Cool uses a phase change material which makes the pillow feel cool while the original uses a knitted fabric. I found the original to be just a bit softer because the knit fabric was more stretchy.

Construction of the Helix Pillow

Below are the construction specifications of the pillow according to their website.

Outer Comfort Shell

  • 1lb Memory foam and Down Alternative on each side
  • 1.25” gusset to allow for adjustable loft
  • Standard and cooling outer cover fabric available

Support Insert Layers

  • Two 1lb Memory foam and Down Alternative insert layers
  • Designed to fit perfectly within the Outer Comfort Shell

How Much Does the Helix Pillow Cost?

Here are the current prices of the Helix Pillow

Regular Pillow
Standard $85
King $99

Cool Pillow
Standard $115
King $129

My Helix Pillow Findings

Both of these pillows come with a zipper to access the inside of the pillow. This allows you to adjust the loft so you can get optimal spinal alignment.

Here’s a peek inside the pillow where you can see each of the layers. There’s lots of detail here including the dots on the inside. It just makes the pillow look nicer and is more fun. I kept all the layers in the pillow since I have broad shoulders and need a thicker pillow.

Helix Pillow Inside

Here’s what the cover of the regular Helix pillow looks like. It’s a knit fabric that is breathable and stretchy.

Regular Helix Pillow

Here’s a picture of the Helix Cool cover for comparison. The Helix Cool is definitely cooler to the touch and great for hot sleepers. These pillows have the same inside construction.

Helix Cool Pillow

Does the Helix Pillow Sleep Hot?

No. In fact both versions didn’t trap heat but the cool version did add some extra cooling comfort and is worth the upgrade if you tend to sleep hot. Below are some videos shot with my infrared came to illustrate the point.

Here’s the regular Helix Pillow

And here is how the Cool pillow fares.

My Helix Pillow Recommendation

The Helix pillow is a very cozy adjustable pillow. I think what makes the regular pillow extra cozy is the knit stretch fabric. This gives you maximum contouring. They also use a combination of foam and down alternative this makes it feel more like a traditional pillow instead of just a block of foam. The Helix will feel like a nice thick down pillow that is more supportive than a traditional down pillow during the night.

A key advantage the Helix Pillow has over some of the competition is that it is easy to adjust the loft. There are other pillows on the market where you can adjust the fill but you would need to put the fill in a Ziploc bag for storage. With the helix, you simply remove one of the 3 layers.

Given the generous trial and it’s familiar feel with the key advantages of customization and cooling, the Helix pillow is a must try.

Zombie Bed Review: Stunning Comfort for Effortless Sleep

Zombie Bed

Ready to sleep like the dead? Check out the Zombie Bed! The Zombie Bed is a memory foam and micro coil mattress that contours to the max. Similar to other online mattress brands, this mattress comes with a 100 night trial period where you can try the mattress in the comfort of your home and within that time if you don’t like it, returns are free.

Overview of the Zombie Bed

Below is a video overview of the Zombie Bed. As you can see the aesthetic is a departure from the boring old white knit fabric. Who knew a bed based on a Zombie motif could look so good?

How Much Does a Zombie Mattress Bed Cost?

Here is the current pricing:

Twin $499
Twin XL $550
Full $699
Queen $799
King $899
Cal King $950

Construction of the Zombie Bed

Zombie Bed Construction

Below are the construction details of the mattress according to their website.

1. FOUNDATION

A high-density foundation allows your ZombieBed to keep its support over time. This design is engineered for maximum durability and long lasting comfort.

2. MICRO COILS

Our micro-coils are uniquely responsive to every contour of the body. Over a thousand micro-coils are used to disperse your weight and reduce sagging and settlement, resulting in extreme comfort.

3. COOL GEL

A layer of cool gel provides airflow throughout the mattress and the foam cells boost the speed of your heat that transfer throughout the mattress to relieve any pressure.

4. SOFT POLYURETHANE

A top layer made from high-density, soft polyurethane. Added to increase flexibility and support.

My Zombie Bed Findings

You get a decent amount of sink with the Zombie Bed but more importantly, it contours really well and that’s due to the micro coil system sitting just below the top layer of foam. Micro coils don’t push back too aggressively. Instead, they enhance the contouring benefits of foam.

Zombie Bed Sink

Here’s a peek inside the Zombie Bed. It has a knit cover that can be unzipped. Here you can see each layer in action.

The Zombie Bed is a basically an all foam bed with the exception of the microcoils. The foam on the top layer is not that dense which means it recovers quickly and the microcoils underneath enhance recovery enough to give it just a little bounce.

The Zombie Bed performed middle of the road for heat retention. It sleeps cooler than a dense foam mattress and I didn’t notice sleeping hot to be an issue.

My Zombie Bed Recommendation

A drawback of typical memory foam mattresses is that they can be slow to contour. Zombie Bed solves this issues with their special blend of foam and microcoils. People who are new to memory foam will find this a more familiar feel. I recommend this mattress primarily for side and back sleepers but it will also work for stomach sleepers. Best Sleep Position for Neck Pain

Best Sleep Position for Neck Pain
The ‘pain in the neck’ adage didn’t originate without reason. Of all the pains that humans suffer from on a pretty regular basis, neck pain is the most annoying. It hurts to look up, look down, and turn our heads for anything. Whether you are working, going for a jog, or simply trying to eat, your neck pain can make every activity difficult. Although not a cause for concern, neck pains are relentless and don’t go away on their own. In fact, neck pains affect close to 60 percent of the population, second only to back pain. Neck pain can range in severity; it can be mild discomfort for some, soreness and stiffness for some, and severe pain affecting the neck, spine, and shoulders in others. In some cases, it can even make daily activities impossible. If the pain is severe, prompt medical attention must be sought.

What causes neck pain?

There can be several causes for the neck, but the most common is bad posture. Almost everyone suffers from poor posture. Keeping the head bent for too long, slouching, staying in one position for a long time, all put abnormal stress on the neck and shoulders. Even when you are watching TV on the couch, reading in bed, spending long hours in front of the computer, and driving can cause a misalignment of the cervical spine and muscle spasms in the neck, leading to pain. Whenever the neck and the spine are not aligned normally, it can give rise to pain because of stress on the muscles. Neck pain can also be caused by osteoarthritis, the inflammation of joints that happens because of wear and tear. In addition, when you adopt poor posture, the condition only worsens. Whatever the cause of the pain, if you suffer from chronic neck pain, you must have noticed that it is worse in the morning, right after you get out of bed. Have you ever wondered why? It’s because of your sleeping position. Most of us tend to sleep in the wrong position. A lot of sleepers sprawl throughout the bed, some sleep on the wrong pillows, and it only grows worse with activities like reading or using the phone in bed. Every time your neck is in a wrong position, you put undue stress on your spine, leading to pain. To start getting rid of your neck pain, change your sleeping position first. Yes, this is bad news for most people, because we feel comfortable sleeping the way we do. When switching to a new position, it can be difficult to fall asleep and may go back to our normal position, just to be comfortable. However, if you stick to the right sleeping positions, it can be the end of your misery.

Best sleeping positions for neck pain

It has been agreed by experts all over the world that sleeping on your back is the best way to ease neck pain, because, in this position, your spine remains neutral. Harvard Health advises that the pillow you sleep on should be rounded to provide the required support to the curvature of your neck. Depending upon preference, you can either choose a feather pillow, since it is soft and curves according to the shape of your neck, or a memory foam pillow. Hard pillows are usually bad for the spine, and should be avoided.   That being said, there is good news for side sleepers. As long as you have the right pillow to support your neck, you can easily sleep on your side without any problem. Positioning your pillow higher under your neck to form a little bridge will keep your neck and spine supported while you sleep on your side. Those who sleep on their stomach are the highest risk of neck pain because it is the worst position to sleep in. If it’s impossible to adopt a more suitable position for nighttime sleeping, try using a thin pillow under your neck to keep your spine from straining. The types of pillows you use also have a significant impact on your neck and spine. Ideally, you should be using a pillow that isn’t too high or too stiff, since it will only contribute to neck pain and stiffness. Although neck pain can be annoying and hard to get rid of, proper sleeping positions and the right exercises can provide gentle relief over time.

Gramercy Park Hotel Review

Gramercy Park Hotel Front

The Gramercy Park Hotel was built in 1924 and is located at 2 Lexington Avenue in New York City. Famous visitors and residents include Bob Dylan, Babe Ruth, Bob Marley, Davis Bowie, Madonna, the Clash, David Mamet and more. It has a bohemian style throughout. Rooms are about $500/night. Aside from the beautiful rooms, lobby and bar, guests at the Gramercy Park Hotel also get access to Gramercy Park across the street which is only available to Gramercy Park residents.

This is my favorite hotel in NYC and is one of the most cozy, comfortable and quiet hotels in the city. I love the history of the hotel and how accessible it is to some of the best parts of Manhattan. Below are some photos and a video tour of the Gramercy Park hotel to give you an idea of what to expect. During my stay I was upgraded to a junior suite which includes a living room area and a separate bedroom.

The Gramercy Park Hotel Lobby

The Lobby of the hotel is warm and inviting. There are scented candles in the lobby which smell amazing. Below is a picture of the lobby. There’s always a cozy fire burning.

Gramercy Park Hotel Lobby

Here’s another pic of the lobby

To your right as you enter is the Rose bar which has a club towards the back.

Here’s a photo of the club area of the Rose Bar which has a DJ playing every night. You’ll find original art throughout the hotel including in your room.

Rose Bar Club

You’ll find that the hotel is dimly lit throughout. This adds to the warm ambiance and is incredibly relaxing.

Gramercy Park Hotel foyer

Each room number is embroidered on the carpeting on the floor.

I was lucky enough to get a junior suite. Here’s what it looks like when you first enter.

To get a full sense of what this room offers, I created a video walk through.

Gramercy Park Living Room

Here’s the vanity area across from the bathroom.

Gramercy Park Hotel Vanity

The hotel offers unique soaps, shampoos and lotions. During my stay they had Aesop Soap which is based out of Melbourne Australia. These soaps incorporate natural essential oils and smell great.

Here’s the card that they leave on the vanity.

Gramercy Park Hotel Amenities

In the bathroom, you will also find a couple robes with slippers.

Gramercy Park Hotel Robe Other surprises include a pop out mini bar underneath the TV in the living room.

Gramercy Park Hotel mini Bar

Now on to the bedroom. It should be noted that all the light switched in the room had dimmers. Again, this is in keeping with the overal ambiance o the hotel. When I arrived at the room all the lights were dimmed. The Bedroom has its own chandellier with a dimmer switch as well as lights by each bedside, also with dimmers. There are blackout shades, blinds and a large velvet curtain. The hotel will turn down your shades in the evening while you are out so the room is completely dark. This is makes for an excellent sleep environment. Also the HVAC provides a nice white noise to drown out all the city noises while you sleep.

Gramercy Park Hotel Mattress

Mine room came with 4 king size down pillows and I suppose you could ask for more if you wanted to but I found these to be more than sufficient. The bed itself comes with a feather bed. The mattress is firm but the featherbed softens it up nicely and I didn’t wake up sore. This is typical of a quality hotel mattress.

Gramercy Park Hotel Pillows

On the night stand you will find a limited edition bottle of Evian water starting at $10. I made sure not to open it. I like that they have 2 outlets that are easily accesible on the nightstand.

Gramercy Park Hotel Night Stand

I was fortunate enough to attend an event on the Terrace which is at the top floor of the hotel. Here’s picture of some of the views you can expect.

Gramercy Park Hotel Terrace

One of the best parts of staying at this hotel is access to Gramercy Park. To get in, just go to the reception desk and ask for a key. They will take your ID and then have the bellhop escort you to the park and give you a key. Only residents can access the park.

Here’s the entrance to the park which is always locked.

My Gramercy Park Hotel Recommendation

This is by far the best hotel in NYC that I have stayed at. Not only is it steeped in history, it is extremely welcoming, warm and friendly. Best of all the rooms are quiet and dark which makes for an optimal sleep environment. You can’t ask for more. It is a convenient location near great restaurants and close to all the major tourist destinations.
