Lull vs Tempur Pedic Mattress Comparison: Is Tempur Really Worth The Upgrade?
I have slept on both brands at home. I received the Lull mattress for free to review and I paid out of pocket for my Tempur Pedic. I also have an affiliate relationship with Lull and do not have one with Tempur Pedic, so I am very motivated to be brutally honest about what you really get for the extra money.
Short version: Tempur Pedic still delivers a denser, deeper hug and more model choices, but Lull gets shockingly close on comfort and support at a fraction of the price. The big question is whether that extra twenty five hundred dollars plus is actually worth it for you.
Quick picks
Lull is better if you want
- A queen mattress closer to the thousand dollar mark instead of three to five thousand.
- A medium firm feel that is easier to move around on than classic Tempur foam.
- A very long at home trial and simple, free pickup if you return it.
Tempur Pedic is better if you want
- The deepest, slowest sinking pressure relief possible.
- Multiple firmness choices including very plush and very firm plus advanced cooling in the Breeze line.
- White glove setup and haul away plus that luxury brand feel.
Expect heavy discounting on both brands at major holidays. Never pay full price if you can avoid it.

Where Lull and Tempur Pedic feel similar
- Both are true memory foam systems with strong contouring and pressure relief.
- Both do a very good job with motion isolation. If your partner moves, you feel it far less than on springs.
- Both have covers and foam tweaks aimed at keeping you cooler than old school memory foam.
- Both ship compressed in a box in many cases, although Tempur often still arrives via white glove delivery if you want it.
When you lie down and fully relax, the core experience is similar. Your shoulders and hips slowly sink, your lower back is supported, and small pressure points fade away. Where they split is how dramatic that hug feels and how much you pay for it.

Updated 2025 model lineups and pricing
Lull lineup (current)
Lull today is more than a single mattress. The current range focuses on three core models:
- Original Lull Mattress – ten inch all foam bed with a gel memory foam top, transition foam and a dense support core.
- Original Premium – a thicker, upgraded foam build with more comfort material and stronger cooling and support features.
- Luxe Hybrid – a thirteen inch hybrid with coils under layers of foam for more bounce, support and air flow.
Typical queen size reference pricing looks like this:
| Lull model (queen) | Approximate regular price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Lull Original | Around $999 at many retailers before promos. | Three layer foam design around ten inches tall, medium firm, the model most people think of as “the Lull.” |
| Lull Original Premium | Typically in the $1,099 to $1,299 range depending on retailer. | More layers and height than the Original with a focus on cooling and support. |
| Lull Luxe Hybrid | Often around $1,499 for a queen. | Hybrid design with coils, better edge support and more bounce, good for heavier bodies and combination sleepers. |
Lull runs very aggressive promotions through the year and it is common to see real world queen pricing a few hundred dollars below these list numbers.
Tempur Pedic lineup (current)
Tempur Pedic has narrowed and refreshed the line but it is still a lot to sort through. The core family now looks like this:
- Tempur Cloud – their bed in a box, the most affordable way into Tempur material.
- Tempur Adapt – the “classic” Tempur feel with better cooling and a little more height.
- Tempur ProAdapt – deeper Tempur layers, more pressure relief, more firmness options.
- Tempur LuxeAdapt – more height and even softer or firmer options for very specific needs.
- Tempur Breeze (ProBreeze and LuxeBreeze) – versions of the higher end models with heavy focus on cooling.
| Tempur Pedic model (queen) | Approximate regular price | Real world notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tempur Cloud | Around $1,999 list, often on promo around $1,399 direct. | Ten inch all foam bed with a classic Tempur feel, sold direct and through many retailers and frequently discounted. |
| Tempur Adapt | Around $2,199 for a queen. | Eleven inch mattress with more cooling features and a slightly softer, more enveloping feel than the Cloud. |
| Tempur ProAdapt | Around $3,399 regular price for a queen. | Comes in multiple firmness options, often used as the “do everything” Tempur with stronger pressure relief. |
| Tempur LuxeAdapt | Often in the $4,099 to $4,699 range depending on foam vs hybrid and firmness. | Thickest build outside of Breeze with the richest Tempur feel, aimed at people who want either very plush or very firm. |
| Tempur ProBreeze | Around $4,199 for a queen. | Cooling focused version with tech designed to actively pull heat away for people who run hot at night. |
| Tempur LuxeBreeze | In the $5,199 to $5,699 range for a queen. | Top of the line cooling and comfort, serious luxury pricing and best reserved for people who truly need it. |
Ordering, shipping and setup
Lull
- Ordered direct, the mattress arrived in about a week compressed in a box.
- Easy solo setup: drag box into room, cut the plastic, let it expand.
- Very little babysitting needed once it was on the bed frame.
- Trial is a full year, and they will arrange a pickup if you do not like it.
Tempur Pedic
- When I bought my Tempur Pedic, it arrived by truck with two delivery people.
- I had to schedule a delivery window and be home which can be inconvenient.
- They can take away an old mattress which is a nice perk if you need that.
- The trial length is shorter and returns can involve a shipping fee and more paperwork.
From a convenience standpoint, Lull wins. From a hand holding and full service standpoint, Tempur Pedic feels more old school retail, which some people prefer.
Feel, firmness and how they actually sleep
Lull feel
Lull hits that classic medium firm zone. On a ten point scale where ten is rock hard, I would put the Original around a six. You get immediate contour at your shoulders and hips, but the foam responds much faster than classic Tempur material. That makes shifting from your back to your side easier. You never feel glued in place.
Under the hood you get a gel infused memory foam top layer over a transitional foam and then a dense base core. The top feels smooth and neutral and the overall sensation is “comfortable but not swampy.”
Tempur Pedic feel
Tempur Pedic is more like a slow elevator. You lie down and feel a gentle, controlled sink over several seconds. Once you are settled, your body is very cradled. If you love that weightless, almost floating feel, this is where Tempur earns its reputation.
How intense that hug feels depends on which model and firmness you pick. A Cloud or Adapt in medium feels closer to Lull, a LuxeAdapt soft or Breeze soft can feel dramatically deeper and slower.
Cooling, off gassing and sleeping climate
Temperature regulation
Both mattresses did a good job of avoiding that “stuck in a hot crater” feeling that early memory foam was infamous for.
- Lull uses gel infused memory foam and an open cell structure to help move heat away from your body. I would call it neutral to slightly cool for most people.
- Tempur Pedic folds more cooling tech into the higher end Adapt and Breeze collections. On the right model, it can sleep cooler than Lull, especially for heavier or very hot sleepers.
Off gassing and smell
This is where my experience was noticeably different:
- Lull had a mild, standard new foam smell that faded in a few days with good ventilation.
- Tempur Pedic had a stronger, more noticeable odor out of the box and it took much longer to fully disappear.
Neither mattress caused any headaches or irritation for me, but if you are sensitive to smell, you may want to give any Tempur a good airing out time before sleeping on it.
Motion isolation, edge support and pressure relief
Motion isolation
Both brands are very good here, which is one big reason people gravitate to memory foam in the first place.
- A glass of water or bowling ball test barely flinches on either bed.
- Tempur may have a slight edge because the foam is slower and denser which naturally damps movement.
- Lull is still excellent for couples, especially at its price point.
Edge support
Edge support is adequate on the Lull Original and stronger on most Tempur models, especially hybrids and taller builds. If you sit on the edge to tie your shoes or sleep right up to the edge, Tempur feels more solid, though the Lull Hybrid closes that gap somewhat.
Pressure relief
This is where Tempur can justify its price for certain people. If you have very sharp pressure at shoulders and hips or long term back issues, the deeper, more customizable Tempur options can give you more targeted relief than a single medium firm foam like Lull.
For most average bodies, Lull provides more than enough pressure relief. You will only truly benefit from the extra Tempur layers if your pain is more severe, your weight is much higher than average, or you specifically love that slow sinking feel.
Updated price comparison chart (queen size, regular pricing)
This is what the price gap actually looks like if you line up a mainstream Lull with the current Tempur models.
| Brand and model | Type | Approx queen price (regular) |
|---|---|---|
| Lull Original | All foam | About $999 |
| Lull Original Premium | All foam | About $1,099 to $1,299 |
| Lull Luxe Hybrid | Hybrid | About $1,499 |
| Tempur Cloud | All foam | About $1,999 regular, often around $1,399 on promo. |
| Tempur Adapt | Foam or hybrid | About $2,199 |
| Tempur ProAdapt | Foam or hybrid | About $3,399 |
| Tempur LuxeAdapt | Foam or hybrid | About $4,099 to $4,699+ |
| Tempur ProBreeze | Cooling foam or hybrid | About $4,199 |
| Tempur LuxeBreeze | Premium cooling | About $5,199 to $5,699 |
Again, sales can move these numbers a lot. Tempur especially runs deep closeout sales on outgoing models, but those often do not include a trial, so read the fine print.
Trial periods, returns and warranties
Lull policies (direct)
- 365 night trial on mattresses bought direct.
- If you do not like it, they send someone to pick it up and you get a refund.
- Lifetime warranty on current mattress lineup.
Tempur Pedic policies (direct)
- 90 night trial on mattresses bought direct.
- You need to keep it at least 30 nights before returning.
- A return or exchange will usually involve a shipping fee rather than a completely free pickup.
- Ten year limited warranty across the line.
If you are buying a Tempur through a third party store the rules can change a lot. Some retailers offer their own comfort guarantees, some treat it as a final sale, some charge fifteen percent restock fees. Always ask for the return policy in writing before you sign.
Which one should you actually choose?
Choose Lull if:
- You want a memory foam feel without paying luxury brand pricing.
- You like a medium firm feel that you can move around on more easily.
- You want a long trial and simple returns so your downside is close to zero.
- You are under about two hundred and fifty pounds and do not need extreme pressure relief.
Choose Tempur Pedic if:
- You know you love the very slow, deep Tempur contour and already tolerate that feel.
- You have significant pressure or back issues and want maximum options for firmness and thickness.
- You run very hot and want the most aggressive cooling features possible in a foam bed (Breeze line).
- You are comfortable paying several thousand dollars for a mattress and plan to keep it for a decade or more.
My personal take: for most people starting from scratch, Lull gets you eighty to ninety percent of the Tempur experience for somewhere around a third of the price. If you have more extreme pain, sleep very hot, or simply love that famous Tempur sink, that is where paying the premium can still make sense.

Is Tempur Pedic really better than Lull?
It is not simply “better,” it is different and much more expensive. The foam is denser and slower, there are more choices and the top models offer cooler sleep and more pressure relief than a basic all foam bed. Whether that is better for you depends on your pain level, your heat issues and your budget. For many average sleepers, Lull is already more than enough.
Which is better for back pain?
For mild to moderate back pain, both can work well as long as you get the right firmness. For more serious chronic pain, a Tempur model with thicker comfort layers and the right feel (often a medium or firm ProAdapt or LuxeAdapt) will usually give you more tuning room and deeper relief. The trick is not overdoing the softness, which can make things worse.
Which brand sleeps cooler?
On paper and in real life, the Tempur Breeze models will run cooler than a basic foam like Lull thanks to more advanced materials and covers. Against Tempur’s standard non Breeze models, it is more of a draw. If your bedroom is reasonably cool and you use breathable sheets, Lull will be fine for most people. If you sleep in a warmer room or run very hot, the Breeze line is where Tempur pulls ahead.
Do both mattresses work on adjustable bases?
Yes, both Lull and Tempur mattresses are compatible with adjustable bases as long as the base has a solid, supportive surface. Tempur also sells its own bases with extra features. If you already own an adjustable base you can drop either mattress on it.
Will either of these mattresses sag?
Any foam mattress can develop body impressions over time, especially if it is too soft for your weight. Tempur’s higher density foam tends to age a bit better but that is also what you are paying for. Lull’s dense base layer should hold up well for most average sized sleepers, especially if you rotate the mattress a few times a year.
