Some of the best pillows on the market are made with shredded latex and shredded memory foam. The small pieces of material in these pillows mimic that of a down filled pillow but without all the allergy concerns. They also last longer as they won’t compact as quickly over time as a down filled pillow would.
I was recently given a set shredded memory foam pillows from Coop Home Goods. A body pillow and king sized pillow. Below is a video of what the king sized pillow looks like out of the package.
Unboxing
As you can see the pillow comes compressed similar to mattresses that I have unboxed. The body pillow is obviously in a bit larger package but not much larger. After I unboxed the pillows I put them in the dryer with a dryer sheet for about 20 minutes to get rid of some of the initial off gassing. It took about 2 days before all the smell was completely gone so depending on your sensitivity you will want to take that into consideration.
Here’s the 2017 version of the Coop Pillow. It now comes with a zipper where you can adjust the amount of fill for the correct loft.
Construction
The pillow is made of a 60% polyester / 40% bamboo cover. It has a nice texture to it and as opposed to a cotton cover has some stretch to it that allows the memory foam to contour more closely to your body. The bamboo is used as a cooling material that wicks away moisture and provides more breathability to the pillow allowing you to sleep cooler.
It is made in the USA with Certipur-US Certified Foam.
CertiPUR-US® approved foams are:
- Made without ozone depleters
- Made without PBDE flame retardants
- Made without mercury, lead and other heavy metals
- Made without formaldehyde
- Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
- Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)
Findings
I am typically a stomach sleeper as I start out on my side when going to bed but wind up on my stomach at some point during the night. I know that stomach sleeping is not good for your health but it’s a habit that’s tough to break. Using the Coop king sized and body pillow in combination allowed me to fall asleep on my side and stay asleep on my side. This is because the body pillow kept me in a comfortable position throughout the night and gave me the same sensation as if I was sleeping on my stomach. It also kept me in alignment as I was able to cradle the pillow with my arms as well as my legs.
Both of these pillows contain a substantial amount of memory foam which means that they are much heavier than a conventional pillow. Keep that in mind if you like to toss your pillow from side to side during the night. Your partner might also get a little jealous if you find yourself reaching for the body pillow instead of them. That said, they are wonderful pillows for the price.
A comparable pillow is the Snuggle-Pedic pillow, also sold on Amazon. The difference is that the Coop pillows have a bit more bounce to them and they they don’t seem to has as much off gassing as the Snuggle-Pedic. That aside, the Coop pillows are substantially less expensive than the Snuggle Pedic which makes them my recommended shredded memory foam pillow.
Updated findings
The 2017 pillow now comes with a zipper where you can adjust the fill. Here’s a picture of the pillow unzipped. Notice that the foam is a nice clean consistent shred:
Conclusion
If you are a side sleeper, getting both of these pillows is definitely worth a try. They do a great job of keeping you in a comfortable sleep position and can be molded to suit your needs. They come with a 5 year warranty that guarantees they won’t go flat and a 30 day return policy. I slept great with these pillows and that says something since sleeping on my side is not my natural position. I think these pillows could help stomach sleepers transition out of their bad habits.

Thank you for the great review
What are the dimensions of each size pillow, as well as the prices? Is a standard size available as well as queen and king?
Thanks for your reply,

Which pillow would you suggest for someone with chronic pain such as fibromyalgia? I’ve been trying to narrow it down between this one, the Snuggle-pedic, and the Nest Easy Breather. While the Nest is significantly more expensive, I can’t find many reviews, but the ones I do find are ridiculously positive. I would appreciate your input since you’ve used both. Thanks!
What I like about the easy breather pillow is that you can adjust the fill. That’s why I often recommend it. Depending on how you sleep and your size, you will want to change the thickness of your pillow.
You can adjust the fill on this pillow as well, so what makes the Easy Breather pillow better? I have purchased this pillow and am unsure if the Easy Breather is worth double the price. Would you say it is, and why?
Thanks!
This pillow does not have a zipper to adjust the fill. Instead you would need to either send it in to have the company adjust or open it and sew it back together yourself. Also, the easy breather has shredded foam and another material that makes it lighter and more breathable.
Both…the Coop Home Goods pillow and Snuggle Pedic pillow, now have a zipper on each pillow to remove or add memory foam. I just recently bought one of each. (6/12/2017)
Ben, I apologize. It appears this review is of the previous model of this pillow. Coop has released a new model, which I own, that has a different case, as well as removeable fill. I think I may order the Easy Breather and compare the two during their 30 day trials.
Interesting. I wasn’t aware that Coop has a new pillow. I’ll have to check that one out too. Thanks!
I wanted to follow up on my previous comment. I did order the Easy Breather and after a few nights I decided to send the Coop back. IMO the Easy Breather offers better support whereas the Coop was similar to a block memory foam pillow which was uncomfortable for a side sleeper due to how much it compresses.
Hello,
Does the tag say what company is used to manufacture the pillow? Seems like coop has another company making them.
Thanks
Good question. I don’t have the pillow anymore so can’t check although I am getting the new one soon so will report back once it arrives.
Does it say what company manufactures the pillow for COOP?
Thanks
The registry number on the label is 43361. When I entered this into the FTC database it lists AQUARIS MFG INC out of Fall River Massachusetts. That’s about all I could find out.
