The Purple Harmony Pillow 

Purple is known for its genius hyper-elastic polymer grid, with which they’ve made mattresses, pillows, pet beds and more. This time around they’ve introduced a new pillow to their line, the Purple Harmony Pillow. Since variety is the spice of life, their mastermind hyper-elastic polymer grid is not the only thing this Pillow has to offer. The somewhat new and foreign Talalay latex is also beginning to get some attention.

With the Harmony Pillow, Purple offers a one-year limited warranty, a 100 Night Trial and it retails for $159. It’s popular among sleepers of all types but from my findings, neck sleepers might be the ones that’ll find themselves most pleased.

Construction of The Purple Harmony Pillow 

The Harmony Pillow is available in two sizes: Standard and Tall. Tall is recommended for individuals with larger frames. Below are the measurements and weight of each:

Standard: 26″ x 17″ x 6.5″ and 4.5lbs

Tall: 28″ x 17″ x 7.5″  and 5.4lbs

The outer cover is made using polyester, nylon and spandex Mesh. The materials used for the actual pillow itself consist of only two: hyper-elastic polymer & Talalay latex.

What About Natural Latex Allergies?

As odd as it may sound, talalay latex isn’t likely to cause flare ups for someone with natural latex allergies because of the insane manufacturing process involved. Since natural rubber allergies are due to proteins, Talalay latex doesn’t apply considering that the washing process removes most of them. This material is also known to be inhospitable to things such as common allergens, dust mites, and bed bugs. Despite these findings, it’s still recommended to consult your doctor and do further research to see if talalay latex is an option for you.

My Purple Harmony Pillow Findings

 

In the past, I’ve reviewed the Purple Plush Pillow, which couldn’t be more foreign to the Purple brand. Being that they’re known for engineering a really specific item, this time around it makes sense that their new pillow acknowledges that to some degree. When it comes to this industry, that’s not entirely necessary but I think that because many people have a certain Association, that it makes them have more trust in Purple as an authority because they’re mindful enough to deliver the comfort of consistency. When it came to the predecessor of the Harmony Pillow (The Plush Pillow), while the item was interesting, it was also kind of odd. It was strangely out of place. “Okay, this pillow is unique but what the hell does it have to do with Purple?”, I thought. It just didn’t seem to be what Purple was all about. Perhaps my expectations were way too high but I suppose it’s not the worst thing in the world when a company’s biggest challenge is having to out-do themselves. It’s unbearable when one’s mind is fixated on beating the competition. Maybe there’s less pressure when it comes to beating your own milestones but then again, the exact opposite could be true. Regardless, IMHO the predecessor failed to deliver. Was its concept too bizarre? It was after all, seemingly the only pillow of its type but I wasn’t satisfied. Something was missing.

In comparison to their other pillows, the Harmony Pillow is a new dimension in the world of upgrades. It’s less complex but offers so much more. It’s not customized at all but thank God for that. Customizable pillows can be exhausting. Besides, that’s where the talent comes in. Being in a fixed, solid-state means having to get the formulation just right. They say perfect doesn’t exist but this pillow is proof to the contrary. 

The talalay latex is a nice, new introduction to their line. Man, it’s soft. Man, it’s bouncy. It’s honestly JUST RIGHT. I thought there might be more to explore and more to expose so, I was getting my scissors ready, only to find the translucent encasing the pillow was in (once outside of the pillowcase). There you could see everything the Harmony Pillow was made of. The latex and all of the punctures that ensure it’s breathable and lively. Can you imagine that even getting the puncture size in a latex pillow matters? That’s how involved this is.

The pillowcase felt a bit deceptive. Initially, I wasn’t sure if it made me a fool or if it just meant they were clever but this pillow isn’t the Original Purple Pillow. It had to be different. In application (meaning when one is testing it), the pillowcase was a genius move. The calculated use of their purple grid provides an interesting texture this brand is known for. If you’ve laid your weary head on a solid foam or latex pillow before, then you know what it typically feels like. In texture, it’s flat, smooth, boring. Maybe it’s not a big deal but if it’s a yawn fest, what’s the likelihood you’ll want to try five different pillows that appear the same? You won’t. The Harmony Pillow takes you away from that predictability because you can’t possibly assume what it feels like until you try it. The subtly is what makes it different; it titilates your curiosity.

The latex on the inside and the grid pillowcase work well together. One reviewer on YouTube said that if you take the two apart, that you can take any pillow, put it into the pillowcase and essentially, end up with “the same thing.” While it may appear that way, what makes this pillow function so well, and the reason why I find it so impressive is because of how these two elements work in unison. If Purple intended for them to be used separately, they would have packaged, marketed and sold this differently. She missed the point. Maybe my expectations of this brand are on too high of a peak but who doesn’t like nice things? Purple makes really nice things.

My Purple Harmony Pillow Recommendation

To put it in perspective, I’ll leave you with this. All of the pillows I’m asked to review take up space which means I’m unable to keep all of them. Well, actually, most of them. I gifted this pillow and I regret it. It would be rude to ask for it back which leaves me thinking if it may actually be time to buy another.

After one night, I had no neck pain. I always have some neck pain but that might allude to the possibility that while the pillow I’ve been relying on might have prevented more neck pain than usual, it didn’t alleviate it enough either. Trying a new pillow and waking up with no pain is so alien to me that I didn’t know what to make of it. Puzzled thoughts circled my mind as I woke: “Did the Harmony Pillow help?” “Is that even possible?” Usually, the only thing that helps is my chiropractor, haha. “Maybe I finally slept some way that didn’t mess me up,” I thought but I remained perplexed by my own body, doubtful of the validity of own thoughts. “Or maybe the pillow is just awesome…,” I tried to reason with myself. Every man and lady will simply need to decide for themselves. 

Is there something they could have done differently? No but I do expect a 2.0. Why? One person was able to put so eloquently what I was not, when I was saying that, “It wasn’t what I expected.” Two words: shoulder notch. Regardless if it’s 1.0 or a possible version 2.0, I believe many, especially side sleepers, will rejoice.

The Polysleep Pillow

The Polysleep Pillow is yet another product in the galaxy of customizable pillows. It doesn’t look very different from other customizable pillows but what is different is the ventilated viscoelastic hybrid foam inside of it. Unlike many customizable pillows, this is not one that will leave behind any type of mess, being that you’re working with 4 separate pieces of foam to build the pillow to your liking. The Polysleep Pillow comes with a 30-night trial, meaning that if you aren’t fully satisfied with your purchase than Polysleep will refund you in full.

The first thing that I like about the pillow is that it doesn’t contain a lot of little pieces. This can get messy whether you’re taking out a lot of foam or even just a little. Polysleep has 4 different layers inside of it, each made up of its own layer of foam. It’s sold at a super reasonable price which is its original launch-era price and I do believe that you’re getting your money’s worth. It’s made up of a hybrid memory foam which means it’s a newer generation of memory foam.

Construction of the Polysleep Pillow

The Polysleep Pillow comes in one size which is 19″ x 26″. Just from a quick look, it seems to be within perfectly normal industry standards. Some pillows can be too long or too small, almost as if by accident like they JUST missed the mark. Not in this case. One size for their pillow is all they need, especially with the intention it was designed for, such as ease of use and personal customization.

The measurements of the 4 layers are:

  • 1 piece that measures 1”
  • 1 piece that measures 1 ¼”
  • 2 pieces that measure ¾”

The pillow has a 100% cotton sleeve on the outside, along with inner polyester microfiber inner layer to give it some volume and softness.  It has 400mg of microfiber fill to give it that cotton-cloud-like luxurious feel.

My Polysleep Pillow Findings

One of the things that confused me the most was what Polysleep meant when they classified their foam as “viscoelastic hybrid foam.” I was reading that foam is either viscoelastic, making it a memory foam, or it’s not, making it a hybrid foam or something else altogether, such as latex foam. But as with most things we don’t understand, all you have to do is ask. I spoke with Polysleep and I was educated about how we were dealing with a newer generation of memory foam. Memory foam was initially invented in the 60’s and while it had some positive properties, it had some negatives as well. For instance, most memory foams don’t react well to temperature but Polyleep’s is resistant to temperature change. It also withstands wear and tear much better than original memory foam since it has better density. The foam density is 3 lbs per square foot. The term “visco” means water-like and it would explain why it had an interesting wet-but-not-really feel. As juvenile as the made-up term is, it’s the best way I could possibly explain it. Let’s not forget the other part of the word “viscoelastic,” which is the elastic part. This pillow is malleable, meaning you can roll it and fold it but it’ll also bounce back almost instantly despite the pressure exerted on it.

One big negative for me is that the pillow is not washable by traditional method. The outer cover of the pillow also cannot be washed but it can be spot cleaned and it can also be machine dried, however only at a very low temperature.

This is fine for people who can afford, and don’t mind, to replace their pillow every couple of months but for people looking to hold onto something for a while, I’m not sure it’s ideal.

While the concept of the customizable pillow experience is not new, their hybrid foam does seem to be.

One recommendation that I have for Polysleep, which could be seen as really appealing on the consumer’s end, would be to devise a “cleaning kit” or cleaning guideline book to go along w/ the release of this or any pillow. While I’m aware that a majority of foams cannot be washed in the traditional way most of us are familiar with (aka, soap + water), apparently memory foam + hybrid foams can be cleaned via alternate methods but I did not have a chance to inquire about theirs.

When it comes to these newly released generations of foam, the company engineering the material really have ALL the power in how the general public will perceive it. I am talking about more than a good slogan. There is an opportunity to educate people on how to do things differently when it comes to materials that quite simply just did not exist before.

My Polysleep Pillow Recommendation

When I first saw the Polysleep Pillow I didn’t think I would be impressed. I am usually all about clever marketing and I love how companies can get creative when they share products with the mass public but I wasn’t exactly impressed or moved by theirs. Being told that a pillow can cater to every personality felt a little silly to me but I do understand what they were getting at. If it were to cater to “every sleeper,” sure, but the wording didn’t gauge much of a reaction from me. Regardless of what the marketing campaign has to say, that’s a criticism to their marketing department, not to their pillow and definitely not to their engineering team.

It’s such a cliche but the pillow does speak for itself. Actually, I was prepared to dislike your product but ended up actually liking it. I suppose it’s easy to think you’ve made up your mind about something only to then have it beg you to reconsider. What can I say? You win.

The Sleepgram isn't a single pillow; it's a system. The outer shell is a quilted, 100% cotton percale cover filled with soft microfiber. Inside, you find two removable pillows:

  • Blue Tag Insert: Medium-soft fill.
  • Red Tag Insert: Firm fill.

The fill is a siliconized microfiber down alternative. This mimics the feel of down (airy, squishy) but is hypoallergenic and cruelty-free. The zippers run the full length of the pillow, making it easy to swap inserts in seconds.

My Personal Experience

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

Like many bed-in-a-box products, the Sleepgram arrives vacuum-sealed. As you can see in the photo below, it comes out looking like a pancake.

However, unlike memory foam which takes hours to expand, the Sleepgram fluffs up instantly once you massage air into the fibers. There was zero chemical smell, which is a huge plus compared to foam pillows.

Sleeping Performance

Back Sleeping: I removed the Red (firm) insert and kept the Blue insert inside the shell. This provided the perfect cradle for my neck without pushing my head too far forward.

Side Sleeping: I used the fully assembled pillow (both inserts). It’s very high loft, which is great for broad shoulders, but I found I had to "chop" the pillow to keep the fill centered under my neck.

Temperature: Cotton percale is naturally crisp and cool, but microfiber fill can trap heat. I found it slept temperature neutral—not cold, but not sweaty.

It is well made and each pillow comes with two different firmnesses. One side has a firmer feel of dense foam while the other side has a sort of shredded foam and fiberfill which allows you to sink into the pillow more. They all have a removable cover which is washable and is made with a phase change material that is cool to the touch.

The pillow is a standard/queen size the measurements are as follows:

The Layla pillow is made with a kapok/memory foam fill. Kapok is a fiber that comes from the seeds of a Kapok tree. It has a silky feel that makes for a great filler since it is a natural, renewable material. Combining this with shredded memory foam makes the pillow feel softer and lighter.

My Layla Pillow Findings

The Layla pillow has a medium loft. That means that it is thick enough to accommodate all sleepers. This is the first pillow with foam and kapok that I have tried. There are many latex/kapok pillow on the market which have a more bouncy feel. I think the foam used in this pillow pairs well with the kapok because you get the familiar down like feel and all the conforming and pressure relieving benefits of memory foam.

Best of all this pillow comes with a trial period so there’s nothing to lose with giving it a try. Pillows you buy on Amazon or other sites often require you to pay return shipping. With Layla they cover the return shipping you’re not out any money.

Eight Sleep Pod 5 Review (2026 Update)

The Eight Sleep Pillow is the older Carbon Air pillow we originally tested. It is not the current Eight Sleep pillow product. The current Pod Pillow Cover is a hydro-powered cooling/heating cover that goes over an existing pillow, requires an Eight Sleep Pod, is currently listed at $999, and has a 30-night trial. Historical features included:

The Eight Sleep Pillow is available in two sizes, standard and king, and at the time of our original review it was sold with a five-year warranty. That warranty statement is historical and does not apply to the current Pod Pillow Cover.

Eight Sleep is a tech-focused sleep company that makes some really innovative products. I recently reviewed their Pod sleep system which is can regulate your temperature as you sleep resulting in better, more restorative sleep. In keeping with their theme of regulating temperature, they have launched the Carbon Air Pillow which is designed to keep your head cool. This is primarily a foam pillow with a good helping of phase change material on one side. It retails for $150 which is expensive but in my experience, it is one of the few all foam pillows that actually lives up to its claims.

Overview of the Eight Sleep Pillow

This pillow is a foam pillow infused with carbon. What are the benefits of a carbon-infused pillow? Carbon is known for its ability to absorb odors and moisture making a perfect addition to pillows that are in constant contact with your skin and breath.  As you can see in the picture above the pillow has tiny holes which make it very breathable. If you press down on the pillow you will feel air flow through it, it also makes the pillow softer and recover faster.  On the other side you will find the phase change material that is cool to the touch and helps dissipate heat. So, if you want an even cooler pillow, you would use this side.

All these technologies add up to a cool and comfortable pillow. There are many pillows on the market that have the cool to the touch phase change material but how much they use varies considerably. This means that it may feel cool for a few minutes but then dissipate rapidly. The same could be said with this pillow but I found that they use quite a bit of the phase change material but they way the pillow is engineered makes it cool, even without the phase change material.

Finally, the pillow is covered in a zippable cover made of Tencel fabric. Tencel fiber is cooler than cotton and even silk.

My Eight Sleep Pillow Recommendation

This pillow only comes in one size and I would say its made for people with a medium build. I found it to be a little too thin for my larger frame for side sleeping although it would work fine for stomach or back sleeping. That said, you can always put another pillow under it for support and it won’t take away from the cooling effect.

This pillow comes with a 5-year warranty which is impressive. It’s not often I come across pillows with any warranty. You also get a 30-day trial where you can try it out for 30 days and if you don’t like it, you get a full refund.

The Eight Sleep carbon cool pillow is a great choice for hot sleepers. It is soft and comfortable giving you all the pressure-relieving benefits of foam without all the drawbacks of heat retention.

 

Eight Sleep Pillow vs. Malouf Pillow. Similar but Different

The Eight Sleep Pillow and the Malouf Carbon Cool Pillow are both premium pillows that are designed to help you sleep better. However, there are some key differences between the two pillows.

The Four Seasons is a world-renowned hotel brand that is synonymous with luxury. The rooms all look amazing but the most important piece of furniture in any hotel is the bed and its accompanying bedding. Aside from the mattress, the pillows can make all the difference. The 4 Seasons uses a blend of feather and down in their pillows for a fairly universal feel.

Ordering your Four Seasons Pillow

You can order the 4 Seasons pillow directly from their website. After placing my order it arrived surprisingly fast. They said it may take over week to arrive but mine came in 3 days! My pillow I ordered the down pillow, they also offer a down alternative pillow but I have a preference for down. I received an order confirmation from a company called Sobel Westex which also makes pillows so I’m not sure if this is the company that also makes the Four Seasons Pillow.

It will arrive to your door in a box but inside the box you will find it encased in a custom cloth package like the one below. I don’t think I’ve come across fancier packaging for a pillow.

Here’s a closeup of the insert. They recommend using a pillow protector and to dry clean only. The outer shell is made with 240 thread count cotton that is Oeko Tex Certified.

How Much Does the Four Seasons Pillow Cost?

Well, it’s not cheap. It currently retails for $149 plus tax. Shipping is free and for me, it arrived quickly. They do offer a 30-day return policy but ask that the item be returned in, “as new” condition. You also need to pay return shipping so it can be costly to return and it’s is vague as to whether or not they will accept it.

My Four Seasons Pillow Findings

This pillow feels as expected. What I mean by that is that there’s nothing proprietary about the construction and therefore nothing spectacular about the feel either. What you do get is an ultra-soft and conforming pillow that only down can provide. Pure down is expensive so to save on costs, feathers are added. The more feathers the less expensive. Since this pillow is 75% feathers, it shouldn’t be that expensive to make. An all down pillow will also be lighter than one blended with feathers and will have a more consistent feel. If you use all feathers, that will make it feel lumpy and will need to be fluffed more often.

Here’s a picture of the pillow right out of the packaging. It is a standard size and doesn’t require you to fluff it since it does not come compressed like less expensive pillows.

My Four Seasons Pillow Recommendation

Overall this pillow feels great and should appeal to all types of sleepers. It’s miles better than any poly fill pillow you would find at a target or Walmart but I don’t think it can command such a high price. That said, if you slept at a Four Seasons and fell in love with their down pillow, this is the one to get. If you want a similar alternative. Pillows.com offers one with a similar construction for about a third of the price and in that case, it makes more sense to try the cheaper alternative to get a similar feel and save some money or buy more pillows.
