Molecule is a new performance sleep company that uses the latest technology to get you optimal sleep for optimal recovery. Top athletes including Russell Wilson, quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks who is now an official Molecule Sleep Ambassador. The Molecule sheets are made with a blend of cotton and Tencel which is a renewable fiber made from wood pulp that absorbs more moisture and is more breathable than cotton. These sheets have a blend of cotton and Tencel to give the sheets a softer and cozier feel than Tencel can provide alone.

My Molecule Sheets Findings
I don’t have specific details on the weave but these sheets are smooth and soft. They are breathable like a percale sheet though and very light. The stitching is well done as you can see in the picture below.
You get 1 top sheet, 1 fitted sheet and 2 pillowcases. As you can see below, these are an envelope pillow case which gives it a cleaner look.
What I like about these sheets is how breathable and light they are yet still silky smooth. Tencel is actually more breathable than cotton but I have tried all Tencel sheets before and what happens is that they tend to pill quickly. Not sure why that it but I would stay away from 100% Tencel Sheets.
Overall these sheets are perfect for hot sleepers but beyond that they can be used by anyone looking for a good nights sleep. When you get too hot you will wake up, these sheets help regulate temperature to keep you in deep sleep so you can optimize recovery.
Molecule also makes a mattress optimized for breathability as well. These sheets pair very well with the mattress. Although the Molecule Mattress is a foam mattress, they use an open cell foam to make it much more breathable than a typical foam mattress. Aside from pressure relief and support, a consistent sleep temperature at night is one of the most important pieces to a good night’s rest. Having the right sheets can make all the difference.
Purple Sheets Review: Do they Affect the Performance of Your Mattress?
Recently updated on December 6th, 2022 at 11:38 pm
I just got my hands on the Purple sheets. They are advertising them as stretchy, soft and comfy so that you can get the most out of your Purple mattress or any mattress for that matter. They are indeed stretchy, comfy and cozy and in this review, I’ll lay out the pros and cons of these sheets. After having already reviewed the Purple Mattress, the Purple Mattress Protector and the Purple Pillow, I have come to find that these are really innovative products. They certainly aren’t for everyone but I am glad that Purple is bringing innovation to the space.
Purple has some of the best product commercials. They are entertaining and informative. They actually make bedding interesting! Here’s the Purple sheets commercial from YouTube:
Ordering and Unboxing my Purple Sheets
Purple has great packaging. Not that it affects the feel of the sheets but it certainly makes receiving and even giving them as gifts, fun. The box has a lid that closes with a magnet. There’s also a cutout sample of the Purple sheets fabric so that you can feel them before you even take them out of the box. An important point to note is that there is no returns on these sheets so if you don’t like them you are sort of out of luck.
Construction of the Purple Sheets
Here are the construction details of the Purple sheets as listed on their site:
Appx. Weight: | 4 lbs |
Color: | White/Slate/Sand |
Fabric Content: | 10% Spandex, 90% Bamboo-derived Rayon |
Shipping Dimensions (LxWxH): | 11″ x 9″ x 5.5″ |
As you can see these are basically rayon sheets. They say bamboo-derived but after all the processing that goes into making these, they are rayon.
There is an assumption that bamboo sheets are eco-friendly but that is not true. Lots of chemicals are used in order to create the fabric for sheets with bamboo. That’s true with any bamboo sheets, not just the Purple sheets.
My Purple Sheets Findings
I just received these sheets and will update readers on any issues I have with them but so far so good. I appreciate the stretchiness of the sheets without sacrificing softness. Other bamboo sheets I have tried have a very silky feel. These don’t’ have quite as much of a silky feel so they will feel a little cozier. I really like the heavy duty band and they would be the best sheets for an adjustable bed where traditional sheets can easily come lose due to flexing the mattress.

I was given a set of Bedgear Dri-Tec sheets for review this past winter. I have been using them occasionally on mattresses that I review. These sheets have a super soft, silky feel and are extremely breathable. They have the same feel as the newer athletic wear on the market. I put them in the performance sheets category.
Overview
You can purchase Bedgear sheets direct from their website at bedgear.com. They have multiple colors and sizes to choose from. And, while you’re there, check out their pillows. Bedgear has some of the most innovative pillows on the market. Bedgear continues to innovate and branch out in new directions, I expect to see more good products from them in the near future.
The Dri-Tec sheets will arrive in a box like this:
Specifications
Since this is a synthetic fabric, thread counts and weave really don’t apply here. Instead, it’s all about the feel. I have had these sheets for a few months and have washed them multiple times and they hold up very well. The advantage here is that they feel just as soft right out of the box as they will 10 washes later. With natural fibers such as cotton and especially linen, you need to wash at least 2 or 3 times before you break them in.
According to the Bedgear site, the advantages of these sheets are as follows:
DRI-TEC® 5.0 FABRIC SURFACE – Our performance material wicks away heat and moisture to help you sleep cool and dry. Reducing heat trapped next to your body creates a restful night.
AIR-X® VENTILATED PANELS – Our 3D structure keeps air flowing, moving heat away from your body while maintaining ambient temperatures.
MOTION TRANSFER REDUCTION – You won’t feel your partner turning over with our sheets as you do with stiff cotton fabric.
FEATHER-WEIGHT FEEL – Soft drape that won’t cling to your body
SECURE FIT & GRIP – The full-banded elastic Powerband® ensure a secure FIT & GRIP that holds tight on all mattress heights, with no baggy sides or bunching! Perfect for power bases!
WRINKLE & ODOR RESISTANT
EASY CARE – Machine wash in cold water on gentle cycle. Tumble dry on low heat or air dry. These sheets are quick-dry and can be used with high efficiency washers and dryers.
Here’s a video that illustrates how the sheets work:
What I especially like about these sheets is the heavy duty fitted sheet band that will prevent your sheets from coming loose on the mattress. I have an adjustable bed and having my fitted sheet come undone can be an issue if the banding is not sufficient.
The stretch you see on the sheet is the material along the side of the sheet. The top of the sheet is not as stretchy.
Here’s a close up the sheets the bottom of the photo is the air ventilated panels.
Conclusion
I thoroughly enjoy these sheets. I think people who tend to sleep hot would find them especially useful. Although I usually have cotton sheets on my mattress, in the summer months I tend to look at other materials to keep my cool and these sheets fit the bill. Year round I find that the pillow cases that come with the set are one of my favorites as they help keep my head cool on the pillow and just feel nice against your face.
Sheex Review 2023 Update

Sheex are performance sheets that feel and look like something you would wear for a jog or trip to the gym. They have the same feel as Under Armor garments and are the original performance sheet set. In fact, the company was started by two coaches from the University of South Carolina who really liked how performance clothing felt and wanted to make sheets out of it. They are great sheets for regulating body temperature and are softer than satin sheets. They come in many different colors including Carolina Blue and sage mist and blush pink.

Sheex are a great idea and help alleviate a common problem among many sleepers which is sleeping too hot. Sheex do a good job of keeping you cool. They are more breathable than traditional cotton and also wick away moisture. They are ridiculously soft and so justify the higher price point.
Here’s a picture of the sheex out of the packaging.
I have been rotating sheex in with other sheet sets between washes and so far they have been great. A set of Sheex will get you a fitted sheet, top sheet and two pillowcases. They have a very smooth feel and they stretch out over your bed so there are no wrinkles. The fitted sheet has a very well made elastic band which keeps them in place and you won’t have to worry about it coming loose.
They make sizes for all mattresses, even a split king sheex set.
Sheex are a great sheet for hot sleepers. However, I don’t really have that problem except in the summer and even then it’s only for a few of the hottest weeks in July and August. So for me they are a great summer sheet to keep you cool all night long.
I recommend washing your Sheex on a regular laundry cycle and drying them on tumble dry. If possible wash them in cold water so they last longer.
One thing to note is that if you have rough skin you may feel the sheets snagging against your skin every not and then. I noticed this slightly when I slept on them but it wasn’t overly concerning.
Sheex is a great buy for people looking to sleep cooler and dryer throughout the night. However make sure you also have a mattress pad/protector that also has cooling properties, otherwise, all that heat will get trapped in the mattress pad. I recommend this mattress pad for additional cooling.
I also noticed that when I washed them for the first 3 washes that the colors bled. I purchased a darker color sheet and found that I had to rewash the other garments that I washed along with the Sheex so don’t make that mistake the first time!
Sheex sheets are naturally wrinkle resistant so you don’t need to use fabric dryer sheets or fabric softer. If you do use dryer sheets or fabric softener, this can reduce the breathability of the sheets.
A set of queen size Sheex will run about $179 so they certainly aren’t cheap but they are durable and very well made so should last a while. Current and former athletes love them.
Sheex Review Update 2023
Since I wrote this post years ago, many new brands have come to market. One that I particularly like in the performance category is Molecule.
Similar to Sheex, the Molecule sheets are ultra breathable and have a silky feel but they are a tencel fiber and cotton blend. This means to you get great breathability with a more familiar feel. These aren’t cheap either though as a queen set will run about $200. Check out my full Molecule Sheets review here.
A Budget Alternative to Sheex
If you want to get something similar in feel although not as stretchy or substantial, check out the Mellani Bed Sheet set on Amazon. They are a microfiber set and will less than $25 for a queen set!
