Perfectly Snug Smart Topper

A year on my bed: setup, summer heat, winter warmups, app quirks, noise, maintenance, energy draw, and how it stacks up to Eight Sleep and Chilipad.

Current pricing snapshot: from $1,499 on sale, size dependent.

What worked

  • Active airflow actually prevents the 2am heat build-up on foam.
  • Schedules and physical buttons make it hands-off once dialed.
  • Zero water upkeep and no subscription fee.

What didn’t

  • On max cool, you’ll hear fan noise. Fine as white noise, not silent.
  • Breathable sheets only; waterproof protectors on top will choke airflow.
  • Cooling is relative to skin temp, not a fixed 55°F target.

Best for

  • Hot sleepers who want real cooling without water chores.
  • Couples who need dual-zone control.
  • Adjustable base setups—stays put and doesn’t fight the hinge.

Build, parts, and what’s inside

Memory foam for pressure relief, a structured mesh to move air across the surface, and low-profile fans at the foot corners. Controls on both sides with an app for schedules and a fan limiter.

Layer stack of the topper showing foam plus airflow mesh
Close-up of breathable mesh surface

Setup and first week

Unbox, center it with plugs toward the head, connect each side, and use the side buttons to start. The mesh sits you a touch higher and slightly firms the feel if your mattress is plush.

Power cords and split harness for the topper
Close-up of the side power switch and controls

Summer heat testing

August nights in the mid-70s indoors were the stress test. I ran a schedule that front-loaded cooling the first two cycles and tapered at 4am. Instead of cranking the whole-home AC, airflow kept skin temp stable and sweat at bay.

On-bed pressure relief while testing cooling during warm nights

Winter warmups and foot-zone heat

A 15-minute preheat at the foot is a faster path to sleep on cold nights, and a gentle warm-awake beats a phone alarm in the morning.

Topper positioned on mattress, ready for nightly warmup

Noise over time

Low to mid settings fade out. Max cool is clearly audible, like a small desk fan. With the app’s fan limiter I capped peaks and kept comfort steady.

Corner fan module that drives airflow

Feel and pressure relief

Because airflow rides through a supportive mesh, you don’t sink much. The net feel lands closer to medium firm on foam beds, which helps with movement and edge transfers.

Side sleeping posture on the topper

Maintenance and cleaning

No reservoirs or hoses to fuss with. I spot-cleaned twice in a year. The cover is removable if things get messy.

Typical price band From ~1,499 on sale, size dependent High 2k to 6k+ depending on bundle and membership Around 1,200 to 1,400 depending on size and promos

Common complaints, reality check

  • Price is premium vs passive toppers, still well below most water systems with memberships.
  • On max cool it’s audible. With a limiter and sane schedules, I rarely need max.
  • If you want “ice bed” temps, pick a water system. Airflow prioritizes comfort without maintenance.

Verdict after a year

It solved heat build-up without adding chores. It’s not the coldest tech out there, but it’s the one I actually kept using nightly. For most hot sleepers, that balance is the win.

Saatva Micro-Coil Mattress Topper Review 2025: Hybrid Comfort, Cooling & Support Upgrade

saatva microcoil mattress topper
Yawnder review

Saatva Micro-Coil Mattress Topper Review: Hybrid Support, Cooler Sleep

New for 2025

A premium topper that pairs a micro-coil layer with gel-infused foam and an organic-cotton blend cover. Designed to add buoyant support, better airflow, and targeted pressure relief to almost any mattress.

Quick Take

  • Hybrid design adds lift and airflow versus all-foam toppers.
  • Zoned micro-coils reinforce the center third and edges for lumbar and perimeter support.
  • Guardin botanical antimicrobial finish on the cover for freshness.
  • Works on most mattresses when you want more buoyant comfort without a full replacement.

Trial and warranty: 180-night home trial, free shipping, one-year limited warranty.

Construction & Materials

LayerWhat It DoesDetails
Organic-cotton blend cover Breathable, soft hand, cleaner sleep surface Treated with Guardin botanical antimicrobial
Gel-infused comfort foam Initial pressure relief and cooling assist CertiPUR-US certified foam
Micro-coil layer Responsive support, airflow, and durability ~1 inch recycled steel coils, ~18-gauge, zoned for lumbar + edge

Overall profile is approximately three inches with a one-inch micro-coil layer under foam. Exact specs may vary slightly by size.

Feel & Performance

Support & Pressure Relief

The micro-coils add a gentle lift you will not get from flat foam pads. You get contour from the foam up top, with springs pushing back to keep your hips from sinking too far. The center-third reinforcement helps posture for back and stomach sleepers.

Temperature & Breathability

Air circulates through the coil layer and the organic-cotton blend cover breathes better than many knit synthetics. If you run hot on memory foam, this hybrid layout is a smarter play than a dense three-inch slab.

Edge Stability

Perimeter-reinforced micro-coils give the topper a more stable sit edge and reduce that “roll-off” feel, especially on softer mattresses.

Motion

Foam above the coils dampens most movement. You will feel a touch more bounce compared to an all-foam topper, which helps with repositioning.

Who It’s Best For

  • Back and stomach sleepers who need lumbar lift without losing pressure relief.
  • Hot sleepers looking to avoid heat build-up common with thick memory-foam pads.
  • Anyone wanting to extend a mattress’s life or tune up comfort without buying a new bed.

If your base mattress is severely sagging, no topper will fully fix it. Consider a replacement in that case.

Pros & Considerations

What We Like
  • Zoned micro-coils for lumbar and edge support.
  • More breathable than dense foam toppers.
  • Organic-cotton blend cover with antimicrobial finish.
  • 180-night home trial and free shipping.
Keep In Mind
  • One-year topper warranty is shorter than mattress warranties.
  • Slight bounce may not suit those who want a dead-flat foam feel.
  • Spot clean only; use a protector if spills are likely.

Specs & Policies

Final Verdict

If you love the idea of a comfort upgrade without the swampy heat or sink of thick foam pads, this hybrid topper is the move.

The micro-coil layer adds breathable lift and better posture through the center, while gel-infused foam keeps pressure off your shoulders and hips. It is a smart, premium fix for mattresses that are a bit too flat, too warm, or slightly tired — without jumping straight to a new bed.

Saatva Micro-Coil Topper vs Other Mattress Toppers

Topper Profile / Build Support Features Cooling & Breathability Best For
Saatva Micro-Coil ≈3 in hybrid; 1 in micro-coils + gel foam + cotton cover Zoned coils reinforce lumbar & edge; foam cushions pressure Excellent airflow from coils + breathable cotton Back & stomach sleepers; hot sleepers; extending mattress life
Saatva Graphite Memory Foam ≈3 in graphite-infused foam, cotton cover Deep contouring, softens firm beds Graphite draws heat; still denser feel than coil version Side sleepers; couples needing motion isolation
Tempur-Adapt Topper ≈3 in proprietary Tempur foam; optional cooling cover Signature “hug” feel, strong motion isolation Moderate cooling; foam can trap warmth Sleepers with pressure-point pain; side & combo sleepers
Pure Latex Topper 2–3 in natural Talalay or Dunlop latex Buoyant support, springy responsiveness Open-cell latex breathes well; cooler than memory foam Allergy-friendly buyers; eco shoppers; sleepers wanting bounce
Down / Down-Alternative Topper 2–4 in quilted feather or fiber fill Pillowy loft; no structural support Breathable, but retains warmth; compresses over time Luxury feel lovers; softer surface on firm beds
Budget Memory Foam Pad 2–3 in basic polyurethane or gel-foam Simple pressure relief; no zoning or edge support Cooling gel often surface-only; tends to trap heat Shoppers under $150; temporary dorm / guest solutions

This comparison shows how Saatva’s hybrid micro-coil design bridges the gap between pure foam toppers and traditional pads, offering more airflow and support without losing plush comfort.

MyPillow Mattress Topper: Must-Have for Effortless Comfort

[lasso id="91267" link_id="125078" ref="amzn-amazon-11"]

MyPillow products have a bit of a mixed manufacturing story, with some items made in the USA and others made abroad. Here’s a breakdown:

Made in the USA:

  • MyPillow headquarters, call center, and customer service center are located in Chaska, Minnesota.
  • MyPillow has a 70,000 square-foot manufacturing plant in Shakopee, Minnesota, where they produce pillows, mattresses, mattress toppers and covers, Giza cotton sheets, towels, and pet beds. This facility reportedly produces approximately 25,000 pillows per day.
  • Some products are marketed as “proudly American made”, indicating they are manufactured in the USA, but not necessarily at the Shakopee facility.

Manufactured abroad:

  • Some MyPillow products are manufactured in countries like Cambodia and Pakistan. This includes items like bath mats and potentially other products where the country of origin isn’t explicitly stated.
  • Not all products explicitly state their country of origin, making it difficult to know for sure where they are manufactured.

Overall, while MyPillow does boast some American-made products, it’s important to pay attention to individual product descriptions and labels to understand where each item is actually manufactured. You can also contact MyPillow customer service directly for specific information about any product you’re interested in.

The MyPillow mattress topper is unique in several ways:

  • Triple-layered construction: The MyPillow mattress topper is made up of three layers of different types of foam, each with its own unique properties. The top layer is made of MyPillow’s patented foam, which is designed to provide superior support and durability. The middle layer is made of transitional foam, which provides optimal comfort and helps to evenly distribute body weight. The bottom layer is made of a supportive base foam that provides a solid foundation for the entire topper.
  • Phase change material (PCM) cover: The MyPillow mattress topper cover is made with a PCM fabric that helps to regulate body temperature throughout the night. PCM is a material that absorbs and releases heat as needed, helping to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
  • Removable and washable cover: The MyPillow mattress topper cover is removable and machine washable, making it easy to keep clean and fresh.
  • Affordable price: The MyPillow mattress topper is relatively affordable compared to other mattress toppers on the market.

In addition to these unique features, the MyPillow mattress topper is also backed by a 60-day money-back guarantee and a 10-year warranty. This gives you peace of mind knowing that you can return the topper if you’re not satisfied, or if it becomes defective within the warranty period.

Overall, the MyPillow mattress topper is a unique and affordable option that offers a variety of benefits, including superior support, comfort, and temperature regulation.

MyPillow is one of the best bedding brands in the market. It comes with a price to match the quality it provides but don’t let that deter you from opting for its brand-new mattress topper. Whether you want to give new life to your old mattress or are looking for a serious bed overhaul, the MyPillow mattress topper is just the thing for you. It is the best value for money mattress topper out there and is guaranteed to change the way you sleep forever.

Good sleep begins with a good mattress. It would be best if you had the perfect comfort and support balance to get that perfect night’s rest. Unfortunately, your mattress can play havoc with this since mattresses tend to get old pretty quickly. This is where a good mattress topper helps you by saving you from that extra budget stress of buying a brand-new mattress. This review shall take you through the all-new MyPillow mattress topper and why it should rank high in your to-buy checklist.

What is MyPillow Mattress Topper

my pillow mattress topper review

MyPillow started by manufacturing only pillows. Over the years, MyPillow has branched out to manufacture mattresses, mattress toppers, and sheets along with their patented pillows. They use the same foam they use for their pillows in their mattresses. The mattress topper is made of foam and sports a multi-layer foam structure. This is coupled with phase changing cover designed to provide the optimal cooling experience and comfort right through the night. It also claims to help calm and ease any pain you might have through its pressure points and keeps your body temperature well-regulated during sleep. The main features of the MyPillow mattress topper are:

Optimal Design for Optimal Comfort

my pillow mattress topper construction

MyPillow Mattress topper comes with a 3-layer design and sports a 3-inch depth. Each of these three layers is individually built, and they each play a different role. These layers are:

Top Layer: This layer is made of a dense yet thin foam structure and is responsible for the even distribution of the body weight, which helps to ease the body pressure and provide good support to the body frame.

Middle Layer: The middle layer is made of firm foam. It supports the top layer structure and provides firmness to the mattress.

Lower Layer: This layer is responsible for the contouring of the mattress and is made of solid foam meant to give support.

Corner Straps

my pillow mattress topper straps

The good thing about the MyPillow mattress topper is its eye for detailing and practicality. It is very difficult to keep a topper in place. Most toppers come with an array of wires and support things to keep them in place. MyPillow keeps it simple yet functional with four corner straps.

These straps are made of high-quality, durable materials that ensure that they do not easily succumb to wear and tear or breakages. They also secure the mattress properly, so there is no mattress slides or unexpected slips.

Zip Closure Cover with Temperature Regulation

The cover of the MyPillow mattress topper comes with a zip closure. The material itself has temperature-regulating properties that enable it to absorb body heat keeping you nice, cool, and relaxed during the night. The zip ensures easy maintenance. You just have to unzip the cover of the mattress topper and throw it in the washing machine whenever you want to clean it. It is also recommended for tumble dry, or you can hang dry as well.

Available in All Sizes

You will find that mattress toppers are generally only available in any size. With MyPillow mattress topper, you can be assured to get the size you want. Apart from the average mattress, they have the full range available for you to choose from, including RV Queen and California King.

Ease of Transport

The mattress toppers are vacuum sealed and can easily be folded. This makes for easy transport even when dealing with an RV queen-sized mattress topper.

MyPillow mattress toppers are slightly on the expensive side, but they are highly competitive for the quality they provide. The good news about this is that they regularly feature on the seasonal sales where you can easily pick one out for a fraction of its original cost.

Attractive After-Sales and Warranty Policy

The after-sales service provided by MyPillow mattresses is excellent. This is a company that believes in its products and likes to stand by them. They offer you a 60-day hassle-free and easy return policy. It also features an attractive 10-year warranty.

The Good and the Bad

My Pillow Mattress Topper Warranty

MyPillow offers a 10-year warranty on all their mattress toppers, including the ones you mentioned. This warranty covers any workmanship and/or material defects that you might encounter with your topper during the 10-year period.

Here are some key points about the MyPillow mattress topper warranty:

  • What it covers: It covers defects in materials and workmanship, such as rips, tears, sagging, or unevenness in the foam.

Coop Mattress Topper: Stunning Comfort for Your Best Sleep

coop flip topper review
[lasso id="61862" link_id="124192" ref="coop-topper"]

The Coop Mattress Topper is a 5-inch memory foam mattress topper that is designed to provide pressure relief and support. It is made with a shredded memory foam filling that conforms to the body and reduces pressure points. The mattress topper also has a baffle box construction that helps to prevent the filling from shifting and clumping.

The Coop Mattress Topper is available in a variety of sizes, including twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. It also comes with a 100-night sleep trial and a 5-year warranty.

The Coop Mattress Topper is a popular choice for people who are looking for a way to improve their sleep quality. It is also a good option for people who are on a budget, as it is relatively affordable compared to other mattress toppers on the market.

Here are some of the benefits of using the Coop Mattress Topper:

  • Pressure relief: The shredded memory foam filling conforms to the body and reduces pressure points, which can help to improve sleep quality and reduce pain.
  • Support: The mattress topper provides support for the spine and neck, which can help to improve posture and reduce back pain.
  • Comfort: The mattress topper adds a layer of comfort to the mattress, making it more plush and soft.
  • Versatility: The mattress topper can be used on any type of mattress, including memory foam, latex, and spring mattresses.
  • Affordability: The Coop Mattress Topper is relatively affordable compared to other mattress toppers on the market.

If you are looking for a way to improve your sleep quality and comfort, the Coop Mattress Topper is a good option to consider.

Coop is best known for its line of adjustable loft pillows. I was recently given a free sample of their new mattress topper for review. This topper can be flipped for a soft or firm feel making it more versatile than your typical topper. A queen size retails for $269.95 so it is certainly more expensive than most but since you get two feels in one topper there’s a lot of value there too.

Overview of the Flip Mattress Topper

You can get the best price on your Coop topper through their website. Most mattress toppers do not come with a trial period but Coop gives you 100 nights to try it out to see if it is a good solution for your needs. If you don’t like it you can contact Coop and they will give you a prepaid return label so it is also free return shipping. You also get a 5 year warranty but that only covers you against a manufacturer defect under normal use. Since it’s a topper, there’s really not much that can go wrong with it, and if there is, you will usually know it right away and can just return or exchange it.

The topper comes packaged in a small container.

My Coop Mattress Topper Findings

Although this topper is pricey, there are some added features that make it worth the expense. First, you get their waterproof cover included. This is a machine washable cover with elastic bands that will keep the topper in place and keep it clean.

coop band

The topper is 4 inches thick which means it’s going to substantially change the feel of your current mattress. The soft side will really cradle your body and provide substantial pressure relief for even the firmest of mattresses.

The firm side is still going to provide quite a bit of pressure relief but with less sinking. Most toppers are only 2-3 inches thick and so having a 4 inch topper is truly getting 2 toppers in one.

The elastic bands are designed to be flexible enough to work with thick mattresses. In the picture above it is attached to a 14-inch thick mattress.

Here’s a picture illustrating sinkage with my 14 lb. bowling ball on the topper. This is the soft side of the topper on top.

I highly recommend this topper for guest beds that are structurally sound, meaning they still support sleepers well but are a bit too firm. Having the ability to adjust firmnesses ensures your guests will get the optimal firmness without having to buy and store two separate toppers.

The video below is an overview of the 3″ graphite infused topper. This is their most affordable option and is best for people looking to make their mattress softer while not compromising any support.

This video explains the benefits of the 4″ graphite and copper gel topper. It is ideal for side sleepers who want optimal pressure relief.

Allswell Mattress Topper Construction

A mattress topper is basically an extra layer of your mattress so whatever issues are underneath it will still exist. I only recommend a topper if your original mattress is just too firm. Mattress toppers have a tendency to trap more heat than your mattress but Allswell has incorporated graphite into their foam to mitigate this. Basically, graphite is highly conductive and draws heat away faster than a traditional topper.

The 4″ Cool Touch topper adds in a copper gel material. Copper is also conductive and has antimicrobial properties. The top layer of this mattress has phase change material which is cool to the touch. You will see a white stripe across the middle of the topper where the effect is strongest and where your body will likely need it the most. Keep in mind that the more layers you put over the topper, the less noticeable the effect.

In the picture below you can see the white stripe in the middle of the topper which is the coolest part.

Below are the prices of the toppers as of this writing. As you can see it is certainly a more budget-friendly option over buying a new mattress.

Why You Should Invest in a Graphite Infused Mattress Topper

Mattress toppers have long been prized for their ability to enhance the comfort and longevity of a mattress. However, the advent of new materials like graphite infusion has revolutionized the mattress topper industry, offering a plethora of unique benefits. Here are some compelling reasons to invest in a graphite infused mattress topper:

1. Superior Temperature Regulation

One of the most notable advantages of graphite infused mattress toppers is their superior temperature regulation. Graphite is a natural heat conductor, which means it can effectively draw heat away from the body and disperse it, keeping you cooler as you sleep. This makes graphite infused mattress toppers a perfect solution for those who tend to sleep hot or live in warmer climates.

2. Enhanced Comfort

Beyond temperature regulation, graphite infused mattress toppers also enhance overall sleep comfort. These toppers offer a plush, supportive surface that can alleviate pressure points, leading to fewer aches and pains and a more restful night’s sleep.

3. Durability

Graphite infused mattress toppers are known for their durability. The infusion of graphite strengthens the topper’s structure, reducing the risk of sagging, indentations, or wear and tear over time. This can prolong the lifespan of both the topper and the mattress itself.

4. Hypoallergenic Properties

Graphite naturally possesses antimicrobial properties, making these toppers a good choice for allergy sufferers. A graphite infused topper can help reduce the presence of allergens in your bed, promoting a cleaner, healthier sleep environment.

5. Eco-Friendly Choice

Graphite is a naturally occurring element, and its use in mattress toppers offers an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials. For those who prioritize environmentally conscious products, a graphite infused topper can be a sound investment.

6. Improved Sleep Quality

By combining all the benefits – from temperature regulation to enhanced comfort and hypoallergenic properties – a graphite infused mattress topper can significantly improve the quality of your sleep. Better sleep quality, in turn, can contribute to improved overall health and well-being.

Investing in a graphite infused mattress topper can provide a host of benefits, making it a worthwhile consideration for anyone seeking to upgrade their sleep experience. As with any bedding purchase, it’s recommended to consider your personal sleep preferences, needs, and budget before making a decision.

Why Should You Get an Allswell Mattress Topper?

I have found that as I age, I become more particular about my mattress. As a kid, I could sleep on just about anything, anywhere. Now, if my mattress isn’t calibrated to a specific firmness, I just don’t get quality sleep. Mattress toppers are an economical way to address pressure point issues. They are also much more compact than a mattress and easier to return. Mattress topper technology has evolved along with mattress technology by offering you the latest cooling and comfort materials so adding a topper is going to be an upgrade.

Considering a typical online foam mattress is 10 inches thick and retails for around $800 in a queen size, a 3″ queen size topper for $109 is a lot more mattress for the money. You also need to consider that the base layer in foam mattresses is a support layer so again, if your support layer on your existing mattress is sound, you are getting a lot for your money.

My Allswell Mattress Topper Recommendation

If you wake up with a sore back, that may be a structural issue with your mattress and you should consider buying a new mattress with proper support. If your mattress is still in good shape, adding a topper is the way to go. For most people, a 3″ topper will do the trick but if you are a side sleeper and tend to sleep hot, definitely go with the 4″ cool touch option. Allswell is making a name for itself by becoming a value leader with mattresses and they do the same with this strong lineup of mattress toppers.

10 Facts About Toppers You Probably Didn't Know

  • Origins: Early versions were made of straw and feathers. We've come a long way.
  • The "Band-Aid" Effect: A topper can extend a mattress's life by 2-3 years, but it can't fix a mattress that has a deep sag or broken springs.
  • Motion Isolation: A memory foam topper can significantly reduce the movement you feel from a restless partner.
  • Dual-Purpose: It protects the mattress surface from wear and tear (though you still need a protector for spills).
  • Customizable Firmness: You can buy a "Split King" setup with two Twin XL toppers—one firm for you, one soft for your partner.
  • Active Cooling: Modern "Phase Change Materials" (PCM) physically absorb heat when you get too hot and release it when you get cold.
  • Allergy Defense: Latex and bamboo toppers are naturally resistant to dust mites and mold.
  • Thickness Matters: 2 inches adjusts the "feel"; 4 inches completely changes the support level.
  • Compression Recovery: High-density toppers (4lb+) bounce back instantly; cheap ones leave a permanent "dent" after a few months.
  • Eco-Friendly: Options like the Birch or Parachute use sustainable materials that are biodegradable.

Mattress Topper vs. Mattress Pad

There is constant confusion here. Let's clear it up.

Feature Mattress Topper Mattress Pad
Thickness 1 to 4 inches (Thick) Thin (Quilted layer)
Primary Goal Change comfort & Support Protect from dust/stains
Feel Drastic change (Firmer or Softer) Slightly plush, mostly neutral
Material Memory foam, Latex, Wool Cotton, Polyester blend
Ben's Rule: If you hate how your bed feels, buy a Topper. If you just want to keep it clean, buy a Protector or Pad.

Buying Guide: What to Look For

Density & Thickness

2 Inches: Good for fine-tuning. Adds a bit of softness but you still feel the mattress underneath.
3-4 Inches: Total transformation. Ideal for side sleepers who need deep pressure relief for shoulders and hips.

Material Selection

Memory Foam: Best for pain relief and motion isolation. Can trap heat.
Latex: Bouncy, cool, and durable. Great for sex and moving around.
Wool/Down: Luxurious "hotel" feel but offers less structural support.

Sleep Position Guide

  • Side Sleepers: You need a thicker (3-4") soft topper to cushion hips/shoulders.
  • Back Sleepers: Medium thickness (2-3") to fill the lumbar gap without bowing your spine.
  • Stomach Sleepers: Thin (1-2") or no topper. You need a firm surface to prevent back arching.

Frequently Asked Questions

How effective are mattress toppers?

Highly effective for comfort. They can make a cheap mattress feel expensive. However, they cannot fix a sagging mattress—if the foundation is broken, a topper will just sink into the hole.

Which is best for joint aches?

Memory foam is the king of pressure relief. Look for high-density foam (like Tempur-Pedic) that contours to joints.

What is the ideal thickness?

For most people, 3 inches is the "Goldilocks" zone. It provides enough foam to contour without feeling like you are stuck in quicksand.

Unboxing and Setting Up the Topper

Upon unboxing, you’ll find the topper nicely compressed, allowing for convenient delivery. The first step in setting it up is to unroll and place the foam on your mattress. It’s important to allocate about 45 minutes for the foam to fully expand; you’ll be surprised at how quickly it transforms into a plush surface ready for use.

After expanding, the next step is to add the accompanying pad. It features secure corner straps, ensuring that both the pad and topper remain aligned atop your mattress for maximum stability. This thoughtful design ensures a hassle-free setup, so you can focus on getting a good night’s sleep.

Why Choose the Viscosoft Serene Foam Topper?

While the Viscosoft Serene Foam Mattress Topper may not be the cheapest option on the market, its quality justifies the investment. The combination of comfort and support it provides can significantly enhance your sleep quality, particularly for those who prefer a softer sleeping surface. Its 4-inch profile offers enough cushioning while preventing you from sinking too deeply into the foam, promoting a comfortable and supportive night’s sleep.

In addition to its comfort, the breathable polyfill pad helps regulate temperature. While it’s not a substitute for a more expensive breathable material, it significantly enhances airflow, making it more comfortable for those who tend to overheat during the night. Moreover, the added pad makes moving around on the topper much easier, ensuring you can find your ideal sleeping position without extra effort.

A Personal Experience

For a practical example of this topper’s effectiveness, I’ve used the Viscosoft Serene Foam Mattress Topper on a pullout couch in my guest room. Originally, the couch’s spring mattress was quite thin and lacked the support needed for a restful night. However, adding this 4-inch topper transformed the couch bed into a legitimate sleeping option. Both my guests and I have enjoyed significantly improved comfort, making those overnight stays enjoyable rather than a source of discomfort.

Conclusion: Is the Viscosoft Serene Foam Mattress Topper Right for You?

Zinus Mattress Topper Review

Zinus swirl gel mattress topper

Deciding between getting a new mattress and just a mattress topper depends on various factors, including the current condition of your mattress, your personal comfort preferences, and budget constraints. Here’s a guide to help you make an informed decision:

  1. Age of Your Mattress: A typical mattress lasts 7-10 years. If yours is within or past this age range, it might be time for a new one.

  2. Mattress Condition:

    • Sagging: If your mattress has noticeable dips or sags, especially in the areas where you sleep most, a topper won’t fix the underlying issue. A new mattress might be in order.
    • Springs: Can you feel the springs poking through? If so, a mattress topper might provide temporary relief, but it’s a sign that your mattress is reaching the end of its life.
    • Lumps: Uneven surfaces or lumpy areas can make for an uncomfortable sleep. A topper might help in some cases, but often a new mattress is the better solution.
  3. Comfort & Firmness: If your mattress is still in good shape but just a little too firm or soft for your liking, a mattress topper can adjust the firmness without the need for a completely new mattress.

  4. Allergies & Hygiene: Over time, mattresses can accumulate allergens like dust mites. If you’ve kept it for many years and suffer from allergies, consider a new mattress. However, using a mattress protector can help keep your new mattress cleaner for longer.

  5. Sleep Quality: If you’re experiencing poorer sleep quality, waking up with aches and pains, or finding it difficult to get comfortable, it’s essential to discern if it’s the mattress or other factors like stress or health issues. If it’s the mattress, determine if its condition or firmness is the issue to decide between a topper or a new mattress.

  6. Budget: Mattress toppers are generally more affordable than buying a new mattress. If you’re on a tight budget but need a temporary solution to enhance comfort, a topper might be the way to go. However, investing in a good mattress can provide longer-lasting comfort and support.

  7. Mattress Warranty: Check if your mattress is still under warranty. Some warranties might be voided if you use certain types of toppers. Also, if it’s failing due to manufacturing defects and is still under warranty, you might get a replacement.

  8. Temporary vs. Long-Term Solutions: Mattress toppers can be a great temporary solution to enhance comfort, but they typically don’t last as long as mattresses. If you’re looking for a long-term solution, investing in a new mattress might be wiser.

  9. Type of Topper: If you’re leaning towards a topper, consider the material and thickness. Memory foam, latex, feather, and wool are popular choices, each with its own benefits.

In conclusion, assess the current state of your mattress and weigh the pros and cons of each option concerning your needs and budget. If your mattress is old, sagging, or causing discomfort, it’s probably time for a new one. If you’re looking for a change in firmness or a temporary comfort boost, a mattress topper might be the answer.

I bought a Zinus Swirl Gel Memory foam topper, 2 inch to see how it would affect my mattress. I put this topper on the new Zinus Cooling Gel Mattress,  12 inch. This mattress is a medium firm feel as listed on their website but I found it to be a little too firm so adding one of their toppers might be a good solution.

You can buy the Zinus Swirl Gel memory foam topper direct from Amazon. It is currently selling for $54.99.

Here are some of the highlights of the topper:

  • 2 inches of cool gel memory foam for ideal sleeping comfort
  • Air flow pattern for cool support
  • Green tea extract and castor natural plant oil naturally eliminate odor-causing bacteria
  • Only the highest Quality memory foam – memory foam is CertiPUR-US certified for durability, performance, and Content
  • Worry Free 5 year limited Warranty

You can also buy this Zinus topper in the following sizes.

1.5″ $39.99
2″ $54.99
3″ $69.99
4″ $109.99

Notice that if you go up to a 4″ the construction changes. Here are the construction details of the 4″ mattress.

  • 1 inch of cool gel memory foam for ideal sleeping comfort
  • 3 inches of air flow high density support foam provides cool support
  • Green tea extract and castor natural plant oil naturally eliminate odor-causing bacteria
  • Only the highest Quality memory foam – memory foam is CertiPUR-US certified for durability, performance, and Content
  • Worry Free 5 year limited Warranty

The construction needs to be different or at least should be different on a thicker topper because if you don’t have a dense foam support base, you will lose alignment and sink into the topper too much.

My Zinus Mattress Topper Findings

As always, Amazon will deliver your mattress topper lightning fast since it is Amazon prime eligible. I received mine in 2 days and it arrived in a compact box. Note that the topper was not shrink wrapped but it was wrapped. That may be different with the 4 inch topper though.

Here’s what the topper looks like on my bed.

Here’s another shot but closer up so that you can see more of the peak and valley construction.

Zinus Swirl foam topper

Below is a video that shows how the topper reacts. It recovers fairly quickly.

My Zinus Mattress Topper Recommendation

Mattress toppers are good if your mattress is structurally sound underneath. A mattress topper cannot solve issues with a sagging mattress or a mattress that just doesn’t give you proper support. What it can do though is soften it up a bit to make it more comfortable and to extend the life of your existing mattress.

I particularly like this 2 inch topper because it softened my mattress just a bit more. If you go too thick such as a 4 inch topper you can either make it too soft or lose some of the support that your mattresses was designed for. I think the sweet spot for mattress topper thickness is between 2-3 inches. Going less than 2 inches really doesn’t do much unless you are a really light person.

The box for this 2 inch topper from Zinus was small enough where if I wanted to return it, it would be fairly easy to do and since the topper didn’t come shrink-wrapped it would be easy enough to get back in the box, unlike compressed mattress or topper.

In conclusion, if you have a mattress that still gives you proper support but you are just looking to make it a bit softer, definitely check out the Zinus Swirl Gel Foam topper. The peak and valley construction allows for more breathability and feels great!
