Ashley Chime mattress review and how it compares to Nectar

Updated 11 slash 28 slash 2025 • Ben Trapskin

A close look at the Ashley Chime mattress in a box line for budget shoppers, followed by a direct comparison to the Nectar mattress for people who want stronger long term support.

Ashley Chime at a glance

Brand and type Ashley Furniture mattress in a box collection with memory foam and hybrid options
Firmness feel Models range from soft to firm, most popular versions land around a medium feel
Height Profiles around eight to twelve inches depending on the exact model
Best for Guest rooms, kids and teen rooms, lighter sleepers, and short or medium term setups
Trial and returns Return window and policies depend on the retailer rather than one long brand trial
Warranty Ten year limited mattress warranty on most Ashley Chime models
Price for queen Frequently in the low to mid three hundred dollar range for basic foam versions during promotions

On paper, Ashley Chime delivers exactly what many people want. It is affordable, easy to order, and arrives compressed in a box. The tradeoff is simpler foams, more basic construction, and less generous trial terms than direct to consumer mattresses like Nectar.

How the Ashley Chime mattress feels

Most Ashley Chime memory foam models use a straightforward recipe. A stretch knit cover, a layer of memory foam for contouring, and a support core underneath. Softer models allow light and medium weight side sleepers to sink around the shoulders and hips. Firmer versions keep back and stomach sleepers more on top of the mattress.

For the price, motion isolation is respectable. Foam does a good job absorbing movement, so partners are less likely to wake each other up with tosses and turns. The feel is simple rather than luxurious. You get basic pressure relief but not the deep slow moving hug you would expect from a richer memory foam build.

Comfort for side sleepers

Softer Ashley Chime models can work reasonably well for lighter side sleepers who like more cushioning at the shoulder and hip. Heavier side sleepers may notice that the comfort layers feel thinner and that pressure builds up faster than it would on a thicker foam mattress.

Comfort for back and stomach sleepers

Medium and firmer models do a better job supporting back and stomach sleepers. That said, if you carry more weight through the midsection, you may want a more robust support core and thicker comfort system than Chime provides.

Durability, edge support, and real world use

Ashley Chime is designed to hit a price target. That shows up in foam density, edge support, and how the mattress ages over time. Many owners are happy with initial comfort, but there are reports of impressions and sagging that appear earlier than expected, especially in softer profiles and with heavier sleepers.

Edge support on all foam models can feel weak. If you sit on the side to get in and out of bed or sleep very close to the edge, you may notice more compression than you would on a mattress with reinforced perimeter coils.

In practice, Ashley Chime works best when you treat it as a budget friendly mattress for light to moderate use. It fits well in guest rooms, kids rooms, and temporary setups. As a nightly mattress for the next decade, it is more of a compromise.

Pros and cons of Ashley Chime

Where Ashley Chime works well

  • Very approachable price for foam and hybrid mattresses in common sizes
  • Easy to order through major furniture and big box retailers
  • Simple comfort options that can suit lighter sleepers and secondary bedrooms
  • Foam design does a good job controlling partner motion at this price level

Limitations to keep in mind

  • More basic foam quality and construction than many direct to consumer brands
  • Reports of body impressions and sagging over time with regular use
  • Edge support can feel weak on all foam models which shrinks the usable surface
  • Trial and return policies depend on each retailer and are often short

If you view Ashley Chime as an entry level mattress for light use, the value looks good. If you expect it to perform like a thicker premium memory foam mattress for many years, expectations will need to be adjusted.

How Ashley Chime compares to Nectar

Once you have a feel for what Ashley Chime can do, the natural next question is how it stacks up against a popular memory foam mattress like Nectar. Both aim to be accessible, but Nectar spends more on foam quality and backs the mattress with a longer trial and stronger warranty.

Construction Ashley Chime uses simple memory foam and support foam with some hybrid versions. Nectar uses a thicker foam stack with richer pressure relief and a more substantial overall feel.
Comfort and support Chime offers basic contouring that matches the price and works for lighter sleepers. Nectar gives deeper pressure relief and more consistent support for side sleepers and combination sleepers who want their spine better aligned.
Cooling Chime has basic knit covers and some gel foam in select models. Nectar combines multiple foams and breathable materials to help keep temperature more even across the night.
Durability Ashley Chime is best viewed as a short or medium term mattress or a solution for secondary rooms. Nectar is built to hold up as a primary mattress for longer term nightly use.
Trial and returns Chime return policies vary by retailer and are usually limited. Nectar includes a three hundred sixty five night home trial so you can test it through every season.
Warranty Ashley Chime carries a ten year limited warranty on most models. Nectar backs the mattress with a lifetime style warranty for as long as you own it.
Best use case Ashley Chime fits guest rooms, kids rooms, and budget conscious setups where upfront price is the top priority. Nectar fits primary bedrooms where long term comfort, support, and lower risk matter more.

Why Nectar is the better choice for most sleepers

If you can comfortably afford Nectar, it is usually the smarter move. You get a thicker, more supportive foam stack, deeper pressure relief, a three hundred sixty five night trial, and a lifetime style warranty. That combination is a big upgrade over the short and retailer dependent policies that come with Ashley Chime.

Ashley Chime still has a place when the goal is to keep cost to an absolute minimum or to furnish a space that will not see heavy use. For your main bed where your back, shoulders, and sleep quality matter every night, Nectar simply offers more.

Simple summary. Choose Ashley Chime when you need an inexpensive mattress right away and you understand the tradeoffs. Choose Nectar when you want to invest in better sleep and you plan to keep the mattress for many years.
