The Plush Box-Top model adds FSC®-certified Talalay latex. All models use GOTS-certified organic wool and cotton. It combines natural comfort layers with an ergonomic pressure-point support system for superior back support and extended durability. We even make a Vegan Mattress without wool that is PETA-approved.

BY HAND
Avocado mattresses feature our distinctive, needle-tufted rosettes made from soft, white organic wool — a hallmark of quality. We pull cotton ribbons through every layer of the mattress in up to 24 locations, held in place by the rosettes. Needle-tufting is a time-honored technique dating back to the 17th century. Because of hand tufting, no chemical adhesives are used to bind the layers together, which also radically improves durability.

The secret to our superior ergonomic support and durability is our best-in-class innerspring unit, a patent-pending design we make ourselves. It features up to 1,459 steel coils, individually encased in fabric pockets and arranged in multiple gauges and seven distinct zones. With coils that float independently, it boasts a reinforced steel perimeter for superior edge support. This system reduces motion transfer, keeps your back aligned, relieves back pain, distributes weight more evenly, alleviates pressure points, and lovingly contours your body’s natural curves.
PAIR WITH AN ADJUSTABLE
Our Eco Adjustable Base and the Eco lush Adjustable Base provide various features to support your body as it eases into sleep. Six massage settings relieve aches and pains, an anti-snore position reduces unwanted log-sawing, and a zero-gravity mode reduces body tension. The Eco Plus adds upper and lower body lumbar adjustment, seat extension, and a deck-on-deck design that hides under-the-base mechanics.

We use FSC® certified (C156318) Dunlop latex in our mattresses. Our GOLS-certified organic latex (CU 863637) is sourced from co-owned farmer’s societies and processing facilities in India and Guatemala, operating under the USDA’s National Organic Program. Our Dunlop latex is made with ≥95% certified organic latex, the highest standard. It is processed in GOLS-certified organic facilities. Our Standard Firm Mattress uses two layers of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex — 2 inches in the comfort layer (D65 / 14-19 ILD, soft) and a 1-inch layer (D65) in the base. On the Avocado Pillow-Top Mattress, we use three layers of Dunlop organic latex — 2 inches in the pillow-top layer (D65), plus 2 inches in the comfort layer (D65) and 1 inch (D65) in the base. On the Avocado Plush Box-Top Mattress, we use 3 inches of ultra-soft FSC® certified Talalay latex (not GOLS-certified) plus 3 inches of GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex. No chemical adhesives are used to bind the layers since our mattress is needle-tufted by hand. Our Dunlop and Talalay latex is eco-INSTITUT® label certified (Dunlop 119-34212-001, Talalay 0120-34225-001), a certification for products fulfilling the strictest requirements on pollutants and emissions following the latest state-of-the-art international research and science, and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified (19.HIN.79546 HOHENSTEIN HTTI).
- GOTS-CERTIFIED ORGANIC WOOL
The benefits of wool’s complex and natural physio-chemical structure are endless: it wicks away moisture, keeps your mattress smelling fresh, and acts as another all-natural fire barrier. It’s breathable — both warm and cool when you need it. Its natural crimp gives it bounce, body, and soft support characteristics. And it’s also non-allergenic (ideal for those who suffer allergies to feather and down or synthetic bedding products) and a renewable resource. No additives or synthetics are added to the wool. At Avocado, we add a layer of pure, naturally crimped GOTS-certified organic wool (CU 863637) (1 ounce per square foot) under the organic certified cotton ticking in every mattress. - GOTS-CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON
For a luxurious and premium finish, we use GOTS-certified organic cotton (CU 863637) in a soft, natural color. We craft the top panel with organic cotton, in a soft natural color, for a luxurious and premium finish, over a generous layer of organic wool with thin non-woven backing as a natural fire barrier, per Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) accessory requirements (required to keep the organic materials from shifting during production, and to ensure the natural fibers do not clump or “work” through the cotton layers over time). No polyester fiber is used. Responsibly and ethically sourced from India, this durable textile is needle-tufted by hand with organic cotton yarn rosettes, which secure the cotton ticking and internal mattress layers firmly in place without chemical or water-based adhesives. Reinforced edge seams are double-stitched, and four heavy-duty upholstered handles complete the package.
- ERGONOMIC SUPPORT WITH 7 ZONES
The Avocado Green Mattress features one of the most advanced, internal, pressure-point support units available anywhere, at any price. The Green Mattress has between 833 (Twin) and 1,459 (King) individually wrapped coils — arranged in seven strategic zones to support hips, back, and shoulders, plus a reinforced steel perimeter, giving the bed a consistent level of support to the edge. Encased in a food-grade polypropylene fabric (non-woven and non-toxic), these premium springs float independently to further improve airflow, support and spinal alignment. There are 3 wire gauges used: 16 gauge (narrow diameter) perimeter coils in the reinforced sides and the header/footer zones; 15 gauge coils through the center one-third section; and 14 gauge (larger diameter) coils on both sides of the center section (the same in the shoulder and hip areas, since our mattress is designed to be rotated regularly). Made from heat-treated and stress-relieved wire, these up-cycled steel coils enable our mattress to deliver firm edge support for the life of the mattress and benefit those in critical need of back pain and pressure-point relief.
- NO FLAME RETARDANTS
No flame retardants of any kind are used. The Avocado Green Mattress uses only GOTS-certified organic wool, which is naturally fire-resistant. Our organic wool has also been tested for harmful substances and meets Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®: Class 1 certification (19.HIN.68466, Hohenstein HTTI).
