Plant People CBD Review : Organically-Grown Quality

Plant People Review

I recently received some samples of CBD oil from Plant People for review. There are hundreds of CBD oil products available and the growth of this market has sort of mirrored microbreweries. There’s lots of claims out there and the more companies come online, the more confusion there seems to be. Plant People CBD products made with hemp grown in Colorado and are tested for purity. They even are mindful of using recycled paper in their packaging. All of this comes at a very reasonable cost too.

Overview of Plant People CBD

I received a package of 3 Plant People products, the Drops+Sleep, Be Calm capsules and Drops Mind+ Body which is a good sampling of the variety of products they offer. Here’s a picture of the packaging which is well thought out and well protected so your product won’t break or leak.

What’s In Plant People CBD Products?

According to their website,

Plant People’s CBD is derived from 100% organic industrial hemp plants. All of our farmers grow in full compliance with the Colorado Department of Agriculture’s industrial hemp program. These plants contain significantly less than 0.3% THC, they are classified as industrial hemp under federal and state law. Plant People capsules contain isolate which has 0% THC and is extracted with ethanol and or CO2, the cleanest methods.

My Plant People Findings

Compared to other CBD products I have tried, Plant People CBD has a more subtle effect. I first tried the Be Calm product which was timely because that’s right when all the news about coronavirus hit and I was feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes CBD can make me too drowsy which leads me to be relaxed but ineffective. This product allowed me to still go about my day without feeling like it was a chore to get off the couch. I was able to be productive yet wasn’t constantly distracted by news stories that fueled anxiety.

I waited a few days to try the “drops + sleep” tincture so I could get an accurate assessment. I took the recommended dosage about an hour before bed. My wife and I usually watch a show on HGTV as a nightcap, our favorite being House Hunters. It’s mindless entertainment that helps me forget about the day’s events and what I may have in store for tomorrow. And although it helps, sometimes it’s not enough. I could feel the tincture starting to work in a little under an hour. Again, this was also a subtle effect, I didn’t get knocked out but it was easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. Sometimes I will take a melatonin supplement to help me fall asleep, but if I am feeling anxious, I may wake up a few hours later and have trouble falling back asleep. With CBD, I am able to stay asleep through the night. Yes, I may get up to go to the bathroom but it’s much easier to fall back asleep without worries creeping into my head.

Another thing I noticed about taking CBD is that I often have more vivid dreams and tend to remember them better. I don’t know what’s really going on in my brain but it seems like I am getting more restorative sleep. Now, with any supplement, I am mindful to take them in moderation and am hesitant to take them consistently so that I don’t build up a tolerance and this product is no exception. It is nice to know that I have it available for nights that I know may be more difficult for falling asleep or when I know that I am going to need quality sleep to face the stresses of the foll0wing day.

The Mind + Body drops are good for use during the day. I will occasionally take CBD oil on days when I am particularly sore after a workout. For me, it’s better than taking ibuprofen. With the Mind + Body drops, I don’t feel lethargic either, I can still be productive without feeling lethargic.

Lastly, I wouldn’t say the drops taste great but they aren’t that bad either. Some CBD oil I have used had a very strong hemp taste and was sort of gritty. Plant People CBD oil is smooth and doesn’t have a lingering taste. This is important because the last thing you want to do before taking the sleep tincture is drink juice to clear your palate before bed.

While these products certainly aren’t cheap, ($79 for 720 mg for the sleep blend) they are effective, quality products made with organic material and I would rather pay the extra money to get something that is lab-tested than a cheaper product with less credentials. There are plenty of cheaper CBD products but often you may have to take a higher dose.

If you’re looking for quality, effective CBD, Plant People is one of the best.

Charlotte's Web Tincture

Here are some details about the flavor and appearance of the different CBD products that you can buy from Charlotte’s Web.

The CBD tinctures, be it flavored or full-spectrum, are dark yellow in color. The liquid is translucent. If you opt for the original CBD tincture, you will find that it has an earthy and nutty flavor, reminiscent of nature. You can also opt for flavored tinctures that are available in lemon, mint chocolate, olive oil, and orange flavors.

In case, flavors are not important and you are not keen about dealing with oils, just go for the CBD capsules. These capsules are not colorful; instead, they have a light brown color.

The topicals, which are available as balms and creams, come with a smooth, creamy texture. Both the balm and cream are pale yellow in color. If you have sensitive skin, buy the non-scented formula. Otherwise, you can go for scented creams and balms which have a soothing and relaxing fragrance.

Charlotte’s Web CBD gummies are quite simple to look at. They are simply squares that are colored to match their flavors. So, be prepared to get green gummies for lime flavor, purple ones for raspberry and vibrant orange for gummies that are ginger flavored.

The Potency of CBD Products at Charlotte’s Web

When it comes to potency, the CBD products at Charlotte’s Web are available in different strengths. You can buy the brand’s tinctures for three varying strengths, namely, mild at 7mg, moderate at 17mg and extra-strength of 50mg. The brand also has a highly strong CBD oil of 60mg strength. The potency is highly relevant and the level you purchase will depend on the kind of CBD product you purchase and how it should be used. While Charlotte’s Web topicals for use on the skin have the highest amount of CBD, the rate of absorption and effect will be different from products that you can ingest.

Our Verdict on Charlotte’s Web CBD Products

We found that the brand has a range of CBD products of varying potency levels and flavors. Each product label is clear, concise and easy to understand. You will get the basic information that you need. On the website, you can customize your order by making use of the bundles. I really liked how the gummies taste and prefer that to the tincture. I found the tincture to work faster though so if you need it to work quickly, go with the tincture but otherwise for regular use, I would go with the gummies.

Charlotte’s web CBD definitely made a noticeable difference in sleep. I was able to stay asleep longer and I was able to get to sleep faster. I normally use melatonin to help me fall asleep if I know it may be a difficult night, say at a hotel, but if I want to stay asleep and feel more rested, the CBD is the way to go.

I am particularly sensitive to CBD and often take half the recommended dose and still get a good effect.

What are Terpenes?

What are Terpenes

Whether you love to consume cannabis for medical or recreational reasons, you have to acknowledge that the flowers of the herb have an appealing fragrance. Depending on the plant, the fragrance can vary. You may wonder what causes the fragrance in your favorite cannabis. The answer is terpenes. Wondering what that means? Fret not; we will explain to you what are terpenes.

Getting to the Crux: What are Terpenes?

Terpenes are hydrocarbons and are naturally present in the plants, actually in essential oils present in the plants. Today, with the rising popularity of cannabis and states legalizing use of cannabis for medicinal as well as recreational purpose, people are taking an interest in its fragrance as it can have a profound effect on the experience that people have.

As stated earlier, terpenes are hydrocarbons, which contain hydrogen and carbon molecules. Many people use terpenes and terpenoids interchangeably; however, terpenoids are actually terpenes. When terpenes are dried and cured using a chemical process, it changes the oxygen content of the hydrocarbon and this altered state of terpenes is called terpenoids.

Terpenes in cannabis are created in trichomes, function as the defense mechanism of the plant. Trichomes crystals shaped like mushrooms and found on the buds and leaves of the plant. These crystals are glossy and sticky, and have a fragrance that is designed to repel insects and animals that may come to eat the leaves, flowers and buds.

Each cannabis strain has its own fragrance and that is why terpenes are so important. Smelling the cannabis, you will be able to ascertain the physiological effect that the herb may have on you. It will also give you an idea about the strain of the plant.

Terpenes in Cannabis

If you are still wondering what are terpenes, here is some more information about this amazing hydrocarbon.

In a single cannabis plant, there are more than 100 unique terpenes that researchers have identified. Of course, the differences between these terpenes are minor, but have helped researchers to classify terpenes, so that consumers and users of cannabis can understand what they can expect from their cannabis.

Terpenes can be classified as:

  • Sweet
  • Sour
  • Spicy
  • Bitter

Each of these main categories can further be broken down into subcategories based on specific fragrance of the terpenes. These scents are specific to each cannabis strain and allow you to determine the effect that strain would have on you if you use it. That is the reason cannabis manufacturers have created terpene wheels that enable users to understand the different effects that terpenes have on a person. Using this wheel, users will be able to determine if a particular strain of cannabis is the right choice for them.

Common Types of Terpenes

If you understand the effect terpenes have, it will enable you to choose your strain based on the kind of effect you want to experience using the cannabis. Some of the most common terpenes that you will find in online and brick-and-mortar cannabis stores are:

Limonene: This terpen, as the name suggests, has a lemony, citrus fragrance. It is the same terpen that is present in the rinds of citrus fruits and responsible for the fruity aroma of these fruits. This terpene is a potent antibacterial and antifungal agent. It can easily be absorbed by the body when you inhale it and can provide relief from stress and enhance your mood.

Pinene: This terpene is present in pine trees as well. There are two types of pinene, namely alpha and beta. The former is a scent similar to pine needles while the latter has a fragrance like parsley, dill, rosemary or even basil. Pinene is a bronchodilator, and hence, it is apt for people with respiratory issues, like asthma. It helps to dilate the airways of the lungs to ensure more oxygenated air reaches them. The terpene also is an antiseptic and has anti-inflammatory properties. It has the ability to cross the brain-blood barrier and is said to be effective in combating memory loss that people experience due to usage of THC. Pinene also makes the person more alert.

Myrcene: This particular terpene is omnipresent in lemongrass, mangoes, thyme and hops. It is one of the most commonly found terpenes in cannabis. Presence of myrcene allows you to determine whether the cannabis strain is sativa or indica. If the cannabis has over 0.5% myrcene, it will be indica and less than 0.5% means it is sativa. This terpene has anti-mutagenic, analgesic and antibiotic properties.

Linalool: The floral and light fragrance of this terpene helps to alleviate stress and anxiety. Besides cannabis, linalool is also found in lavender. The terpene can provide relief from depression, seizure symptoms and even psychosis. You can also use it as a mild sedative to calm and relax yourself.

While most researchers and commercial growers and manufacturers are aware of terpenes and the different effects they have on the body, an average user of cannabis is still clueless. That is why it is essential for users to know and understand what are terpenes.

By checking testing profiles of cannabis, they will be able to understand the type of terpenes present in their favorite cannabis strain. This, in turn, will have a profound effect on their cannabis experience.

Enjoy Your Cannabis Experience with the Help of Terpenes

Use manufacturer-made visual aids to learn more about terpenes in different cannabis strains. Remember, it is essential that the feeling you enjoy with cannabis is actually a good one. Hence, you should go into depth to understand what are terpenes and their effects on the body. That way, you will be better equipped to purchase the cannabis strain based on your expectation and requirements.

Since terpenes have a profound effect on the mood, choose your cannabis based on the sativa that can help you attain the mood you are seeking. Today, it is common for cannabis manufacturers to brand their products based on the moods they can affect. So, it should be easier for you to choose your cannabis. However, to understand the different effects on mood, you will need to know what is terpenes.
