A Halo Sleep Sack is a wearable blanket for your baby that zips up the front. It is a great thing to use when your baby is frustrated by or escaping from a swaddle. The American Academy of Pediatrics publishes specific guidelines about safe sleep for babies and the Halo SleepSack seems to match up with what is recommended. You are not supposed to have those cute crib bumpers or even blankets in the bed with a baby due to an increased SIDS risk, so wearing a specially designed blanket is the safest option, it seems! The SleepSack even has a sewn-on reminder that “Back is Best” near the baby’s shoulder so you don’t forget to always lay your little one down on their back.
I knew about SleepSacks even before I became a mom, and I knew I wanted to have a few on hand when my baby was born. I included different sizes and materials of this product on my baby registry. Halo offers fleece SleepSacks for the winter ($17.99 on Amazon), cotton ones for the fall and spring ($13.98 on Amazon), and lightweight cotton muslin for summer ($22.48 on Amazon). I especially love the microfleece because it is so warm and cozy! When comparing the prices and quality of different baby sleep products, this one seems to have the best value of what I have seen so far. Note: All prices above are for Prime 2-day shipping on Amazon. I am not being paid by Amazon or Halo. I’m just a happy customer!
Looking more closely at the product, the Halo SleepSack is a sleeveless blanket that is squared off at the bottom, leaving room for your little one to kick around inside of it when it’s zipped up. The zipper goes from the top down, which makes it easy to pop the baby’s legs out for a quick diaper change without having to fumble with rezipping all the way in the middle of the night. A few times, I have done a lousy job of zipping this up and the zipper malfunctioned. A little bit of patient fiddling around fixed this for me, so if you have a zipper problem, don’t despair and try to fix it!
Lucas is wearing a size medium here which fits babies who are between 16 and 24 pounds. That is a huge range, especially because the growth curve for babies slows down around six months, making this product even more of a bang for your buck!
Another thing I like about this product is that there are a ton of designs to choose from including pink butterfly ombre, green geckos, yellow waves, and on and on. I was very happy with the gender neutral patterns that I picked out. I even have a SleepSack in the next size up ready to go! Also, it washes very well and there are no special drying instructions! Score!
I do have the lightweight cotton muslin SleepSack as well, but I didn’t get much use out of it for my son. I thought the fabric was too light to warm him up at all, and since he was a summer baby who was still being swaddled, it just didn’t work for him.
That being said, I think the microfleece Halo SleepSack is a great value at only $17.99 on Amazon and is well worth your money. It makes a great gift, since it will be worn every night for months! I hope you like it as much as I do!
