Our 100% GOLS organic certified latex layer is computer designed and cut into 3 targeted zones. These zones increase the surface area and allow for greater heat dissipation, as well as precise comfort for your lower back, legs, and shoulders. 8-inch Individually Wrapped Support Coils
A layer of individually wrapped coils allows precise body contouring for optimal support. Reinforced coils in the lumbar region give your lower back the support it needs, and edge retention coils allow you to sit or sleep at the edges without rolling off. My Brentwood Home Cedar Luxe Mattress Findings

Here’s a picture that illustrates how much the mattress sinks using my 16 lb. bowling ball. What I found is that this mattress doesn’t necessarily feel like a latex mattress. That’s because of the organic cotton fiber quilting used near the top which give the mattress some more hug and makes it cozier. An all latex mattress will give you more push back and won’t have quite the cozy factor that this one does.

Here’s a video that illustrates bounce on the Cedar. As you can see it behaves like a traditional mattress. The coil system used in this mattress is an 8-inch QuantumEdge Combi-Zone Individually Wrapped Coil System. The coils are individually wrapped and work independently reducing motion transfer. The Quantum Edge system is designed so that the perimeter coils are firmer to give you better edge support.

Here’s another video illustrating heat retention on the Cedar Mattress. This mattress sleeps very temperature neutral. I found it to sleep just as cool as a traditional mattress. The wool used inside the mattress helps to regulate temperature.

My Cedar Mattress Recommendation

Among the Brentwood line, the Cedar plush is just a bit firmer than the Oceano. That’s because natural latex will have a subtle pushback that memory foam doesn’t.

This mattress comes with the Brentwood Home 25 year warranty. Most of the online brands haven’t even been around a tenth of this time. More importantly, you can take advantage of the 120-night trial although I think the vast majority of people will end up liking it. It is hard to get firmness levels right with natural mattresses and the plush feels plush but not overly soft.

You can order this mattress directly from their website. It comes shipped in a box like the one below. You can choose between two firmness options. For this review, I chose the plush option as natural mattresses like this one will tend to skew firm compared to foam mattresses.

Here’s what it looks like out of the box. The mattress is rolled and not folded. This prevents any creases from forming and reduces the chances of the mattress getting damaged during packaging. Normally I can move these mattresses around myself but I would advise two people for this one as it is very heavy. The latex layer adds a considerable amount of weight.

What you will find is that this mattress will come to life instantly. No need to wait to sleep on it as you would with a foam mattress.

With this mattress, there’s nothing to hide. You get an organic cotton cover. The wool layer helps keeps a neutral temperature throughout the night and serves as a natural fire barrier. The latex layer is the comfort layer providing pressure relief. Finally, the pocketed coil system provides pressure relief while isolation motion so that you don’t wake your partner.

My Smart Home Mattress Findings

Below is a picture of my 14 lb. bowling ball on the soft version of the mattress. If you are wondering which firmness to get, I strongly recommend the plush for side sleepers and the firm for dedicated stomach sleepers. Back sleepers could sleep on either firmness, it just depends on how much you want to sink into the mattress.

This mattress is hand tufted. This is means tufting needles drive yarn through the mattress to hold all the layers together. This eliminates the need for glue. It also creates a more uniform sleeping surface. While this adds to the cost, you will notice how much this adds to the overall quality and durability.

Since this is a heavy mattress, handles are stitched to the sides. This makes transporting and rotating the mattress easy. You can’t flip the mattress but I do recommend rotating it every 6 months.

The video below illustrates motion transfer. Notice that the balls did not collapse towards each other. The pocket coils provide bounce and pressure relief but all move independently. The tufting also helps keep the latex layer from caving too much.
