Those certifications validate that we provide our factory team with fair wages, comprehensive benefits, and safe working conditions. GOTS prohibits toxic chemicals identified by their standards commonly used in textile processing that can cause cancer, birth defects, and other serious illnesses.

It features a firm, tightly quilted pattern of GOTS-certified organic cotton on top of the base support of coconut husk fiber infused with GOLS-certified organic latex.
TRANSITION TO THE TODDLER SIDE
Designed for use from year one up to year four, the toddler side of our Organic Crib Mattress is slightly more plush while still providing the support your growing child needs as they move and fidget throughout the night. It features a supportive layer of GOLS-certified organic latex, 0.5-inch coconut husk, and GOTS-certified organic cotton for added breathability and buoyancy.
PAIR WITH OUR ORGANIC COTTON MATTRESS PADS
We don’t use a waterproof plastic or polyurethane layer. Instead, we created a quilted, GOTS-certfied organic protector pad. Hand-sewn in our own workshops, these pads are waterproof and stay snugly in place. How many do we recommend? The time-honored mother’s axiom says it best: “Three. The dual-sided Avocado Organic Crib Mattress is the perfect healthy complement to your child’s sleep routine, designed to fit inside any standard crib. Intended for use from newborn to one year, the infant side is firmer by design to provide the support your baby needs in this pivotal time of transition and growth. It features a breathable, 3-inch GOLS-certified organic coconut husk pad. The toddler side, in contrast, is slightly softer. It features a 2-inch GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex foam layer and a 1/2-inch GOLS-certified organic coconut husk pad.
GOLS-Certified Organic Latex
We use Dunlop latex in our mattresses because it is more eco-conscious than Talalay latex, which requires more processing. We make our own GOLS organic certified Dunlop latex from co-owned farmer’s societies in India, operating under the USDA’s National Organic Program. It’s made with ≥95% certified organic latex, the highest possible standard. Dunlop latex is naturally antimicrobial, cooler than memory foam, requires no adhesives to seam it together, and is more durable than Talalay latex. It is processed in a GOLS organic certified facility in India that we also co-own. The Avocado Organic Crib Mattress features 1 inch of firm (D75) organic latex. We do not use blended or synthetic latex. There are no seams to break down over time, and no chemical adhesives are used to bind the layers.
GOTS-Certified Organic Wool
The benefits of wool’s complex and natural physio-chemical structure are endless: it wicks away moisture, keeps your mattress smelling fresh, and acts as another all-natural fire barrier. It’s breathable — both warm and cool when you need it. Its natural crimp gives it bounce, body, and soft support characteristics. It’s also non-allergenic (ideal for those who suffer allergies to feather and down or synthetic bedding products) and a renewable resource. No additives or synthetics are added to the wool. We do not blend rayon, polyester, or flame retarding chemicals with our wool. We add a layer of pure, naturally crimped GOTS-certified organic wool surrounding the crib mattress. A thin, GOTS-approved, nonwoven polypropylene layer is used on the side panels to keep wool fibers from migrating through the side panels.
GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton
We use GOTS-certified organic cotton in a soft, natural color for a luxurious and premium finish. Our organic cotton, which we use for a gentle, breathable cover, is responsibly and sustainably harvested in India exclusively for us without pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Reinforced tape edge seams are made with a GOTS-certified organic cotton tape edge and are double-stitched. Four heavy-duty upholstered handles complete the package.
GOTS-Certified Organic Coconut Husk Pad
We use a firm and breathable coconut husk fiber pad infused with GOLS-certified organic latex, a 3-inch layer on the infant side and a 0.5-inch layer on the toddler side. Coconut husks are a renewable material. This layer keeps the mattress cool while providing the comforting support your little one needs.
Safety Information
Use only a fitted bottom sheet specifically made for crib use, along with a mattress protector and a waterproof protector. Do not place stuffed animals, pillows, quilts, or comforters in the crib while your baby sleeps, as they may prevent proper air circulation around your baby’s face. Note that the side of the crib was removed for display/photographic purposes only. Cribs should be fully enclosed to ensure safe and secure sleep for your little one.
Tested for PFAS
PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of man-made chemicals used in various industries worldwide. Known for their persistence in the environment and in the human body, they are often referred to as “forever chemicals.” At Avocado, we’re committed to ensuring our products are free from harmful levels of PFAS. Our mattresses have been rigorously tested using advanced techniques such as Liquid Chromatographic/Tandem Mass Spectrometer (LC/MS/MS) analysis and Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis for 241 PFAS substances. This testing method is superior to generic organic fluorine screening tests, which can often be inaccurate and fail to detect specific PFAS compounds. Test results indicate that our mattress materials contain no detectable amounts of PFAS. Read our PFAS test results.
SYNTHETIC MATERIALS NOT USED
No flame retardant chemicals are used. Only GOTS-certified needle-punch wool is used. In addition to being breathable and moisture-wicking, wool is inherently flame-resistant and self-extinguishing. It has a high ignition temperature (about 570-600°C or 1058-1112°F), does not melt, and forms a char that acts as a barrier to flame spread. No “wipe-clean” or LDPE waterproof coatings are used. No PLA plastics, vinyl, polyurethane, polyethylene, steel coils, steel fasteners, or glue are used.

Your 30-night Avocado Organic Crib Mattress trial begins after you receive it and is limited to one per household, according to the policy terms and conditions. Shipping, in-home delivery, and setup fees are non-refundable. Read our Sleep Trial Policy. A 25-year limited warranty covers the Organic Crib Mattress. All bunkie boards sold by Avocado have been specifically designed to meet the structural support requirements of this warranty if used correctly and unaltered. Few companies will share this information prior to your purchase because it separates fact from marketing hype. We believe differently. Here’s what the legal tag on the standard Avocado Green Mattress actually says: Made in California with internal materials (based on weight) consisting of Natural Latex (58%), Natural Wool Fiber (42%), plus a 100% Organic Cotton Cover.
