Pacific Mattress Review

The Pacific Mattress Co.  is a California based mattress company that also makes their mattresses in California. I don’t know what it is about that California but they produce a lot of great mattress companies. Pacific Mattress currently offeres two different models, a medium soft and medium firm. I received the medium soft for review.

I have now slept on hundreds of mattresses and the differences can be subtle. What this means is that there’s more choice out there but also lots of confusion.

Overview

You can purchase a Pacific Mattress direct from their website. A queen size retails for $999 and comes with a 100 night trial period where you can return it anytime within that 100 days for a full refund if not satisfied.  Here’s a video overview of the mattress.

Construction

Below are the construction specifications of both the medium soft and medium firm versions of the pacific mattress.

Medium Soft

Cover:  Machine washable polyester, modacrylic and lycra. Cover includes a phase change material for a cooling effect.

Fire barrier: silica

Top Layer:  Comfort Layer: 1.5 inches of “float foam”. Zoned to be firmer in the mid section and softer at the head and foot.

Middle Layer: 2 inches of latex OEKO-TEX certified, ILD 13

Base Layer: 6.5 inches of 1.8 density foam with an ILD of 32

Medium Firm

Cover:  Machine washable polyester, modacrylic and lycra. Cover includes a phase change material for a cooling effect.

Fire Barrier: silica

Top Layer: 1.5 inches of solid float foam.

Middle Layer: 1.5 inches of latex with an ILS of 19

Base Layer: 7 inches of 1.8 density foam win an ILD of 36

Findings

Below is a video illustrating motion transfer on the mattress. Notice how the bowling ball sinks into the mattress but the foam quickly recovers. This is due to the type of foam used on the top layer.

Below you can see how much the Pacific Mattress (soft) will sink. You will get the same amount of sink as you would with a traditional foam mattress but it recovers much faster.

Here’s a video showing how fast heat dissipates from the top of the Pacific mattress. It performed a little above average here.

To get a better sense of how the layers of this mattress work together, check out the video of me squishing the layers underneath the cover of the mattress. Notice that the top has small holes that allow for even more breathability.

Overall this mattress sleeps excellent. I recommend stomach sleepers go witht the medium firm over the medium soft so that they get the lower back support they need. The medium soft would be a great choice for side or back sleepers.

Conclusion

The medium soft Pacific Mattress is a good choice for people that want a little more hug than a typical foam mattress but also want to be able to move around easily. Pacific Mattress Co. has a great trial period and their mattress is made in the USA. I expect this company to be around for a while given the great construction and feel of the mattress.
