What the Vividus is
Vividus is Hästens’ flagship continental bed, built in Sweden using a labor-intensive combination of springs and natural upholstery materials rather than the foam-heavy construction common in modern mattresses.
The defining materials traditionally associated with Hästens include horsehair, cotton, wool and flax layered with spring systems and a wooden foundation. Horsehair is used because its curled fibers create space for airflow while remaining resilient under repeated compression.
Hand-built construction
The older Yawnder article emphasized that Vividus is produced as a craft product rather than a mass-market mattress. Multiple artisans work through the layering, stitching and finishing process, and the mattress is paired with a matching base as part of the complete sleep system.
Why Hästens is different
The company traces its roots to 1852 and originally came from a saddlemaking tradition. That history helps explain the continued emphasis on natural fibers, spring upholstery and handwork rather than molded foam components.
Vividus is not a normal “value” mattress purchase. Its appeal is craftsmanship, natural materials, customization and exclusivity. For most shoppers, the useful question is not whether it beats a mainstream mattress on price-to-performance, but whether this particular construction style and level of handwork are worth the extraordinary premium.
