The Best Mattresses of 2016 in each category are listed below. These selections are based on my personal experience with these mattresses and testing that I have done. There’s no perfect mattress for everyone and so I have created categories to help you find the mattress the will most likely be the best fit for you.
Best Memory foam mattress 2016
This past year many new mattress brands have come online. The increased competition has created incentive for existing brands to up their game. This year, Nest Bedding revamped their mattress lines and made significant improvements to the already great Alexander Signature Select. The 2016 model has improved edge support and even more breathablility making it the standout memory foam mattress for 2016.

Best Inner Spring Mattress 2016
The best inner spring mattress for 2016 goes to the WinkBed. WinkBed also made improvements over their 2015 model by creating an excellent spring/foam hybrid mattress that has just the right amount of support and pressure relief. People who enjoy the bounce and quick recovery of springs but also want the conforming comfort that memory foam provides will absolutely love this mattress. Because it has springs, it is also much more breathable than a traditional foam mattress. This mattress does not come in a box either so you can enjoy it immediately and there’s not major off gassing.

Best Performance Mattress 2016
The Luxi mattress is the most versatile mattress I have slept on. You can configure each side (queen size and above) to three different levels of firmness. What really sets it apart is the proprietary SBT layer that helps you sleep cool while providing superior pressure relief and contouring. Couples that have different firmness preferences will love the Luxi.

Best Luxury Mattress
I recently toured the Brentwood Home mattress factory and showroom. I was blown away with their attention to quality and detail. Their mattresses could easily command 3-4 times the price in a traditional retail setting. Instead of relying on marketing to differentiate their product, they simply make a superior product. Brentwood Home launched a 2016 line of mattresses that has set the bar higher for affordable luxury. I recently reviewed the Oceano mattress which is a spring on spring with foam mattress. It just doesn’t get better than this.

Best Budget Mattress
The Zinus Green Tea mattress is a shockingly affordable mattress. At around $280 for a queen size, you would be hard pressed to find a better value. Although made in China, it is CertiPUR-US certified. With a depth of 12 inches, you won’t be bottoming out on this either. This mattress is on the softer side so recommended for side sleepers.
All of the mattresses listed here come with very generous trial periods so you really can’t go wrong choosing any of them. If not satisfied you have the option to return, hassle free. As you can see, there’s something for everyone at every price point. The best mattress 2016 list may change if newer, or better models come out later this year but as of this writing, these are my top picks for 2016

We are considering Habitat all natural latex and the Zenhaven by Saatva mattresses in King. Do you have these in your show room?
Millie Auksel
Unfortunately we don’t but most latex mattresses will feel similar. What’s great about the Zen Haven is that they have a really good return policy.
Your Oceano Mattress Review isn’t available in the link above. I’d love to know why you like it so much. How is it better than the Luxi? I’m concerned the Luxi might not be soft enough. I find memory foam too firm, the recovery time challenging, & the firmness increases in cold weather. Otherwise, the Luxi sounds great.
Both are great mattresses. The Oceano will have more of a high end feel and is much thicker as well. If you and your partner have different firmness preferences though, you should consider the Luxi.
What would you say about the Purple Mattress?
The Purple is a unique mattress with a unique feel so it’s not for everyone. I recommend it to people that have problems sleeping hot. I don’t consider it a cozy mattress because it doesn’t necessarily hug you, instead you sort of float on it while the polymer grid pushes back.
How would you compare the Leesa mattress to the purple mattress? Would you recommend one over the other? Or is there a newer mattress that you would suggest for side sleepers? We are no longer loving our sleep number and looking for something else.
